Effect of silica fume and waste rubber on the performance of slag-based geopolymer mortars under high temperatures
In this study, the fire resistance of slag-based geopolymer mortars was investi-gated and the effect of silica fume (SF) and waste rubber (WR) on this resistance was determined. In slag-based geopolymer mortars activated using 12M NaOH solution, 0%, 5%, and 10% by weight SF was substituted for slag; 0%, 5%, 10%, and 15% WR by volume were substituted for fine aggregate. The samples that completed the curing period were exposed to temperatures of 250 degrees C, 500 degrees C, and 750 degrees C for 1 h, and the mechanical (compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strengths, and impact resistance), physical (weight change and sorptivity) and microstructure (scanning electron microscopy [SEM] and energy dispersive spectroscopy [EDS]) properties of these samples were examined. The compres-sive strengths of the samples without WR were between 48.10 and 60.97 MPa, and the samples without SF were between 28.52 and 48.10 MPa. Strength losses at 750 degrees C were between 51.5% and 73.5%. As the SF substitution increased, the samples' mechanical and physical properties improved, whereas as the WR sub-stitution increased, the samples' mechanical and physical properties declined. While the SF substitution had a positive effect on the fire resistance of the sam -ples, the WR substitution had a negative effect. Flood hazard mapping using M5 tree algorithms and logistic regression; a case study in East Black Sea Region
Flood is a type of disaster that occurs as a result of the overflow of the stream outside its bed. Similarly to many parts of the globe, particularly the Eastern Black Sea Region of Turkey is frequently exposed to major floods. The heavy rainfall and topographic structure of the region and the proximity of settlements to stream beds are the primary causes of flooding. The present study pertains to the utilization of the Logistic Regression (LR), M5P Rule Tree (M5PRT) and M5P Regression Tree (M5PRGT) models for the assessment of the flood hazard areas in and around the Of district, located on the Black Sea coast of Trabzon province. According to flood inventory, 16 flood events occurred in 5 different locations in the study area. These areas were converted into point data, and comprising a total of 1600 points, 800 flooded and 800 non-flooded, were determined by random sampling. Accordingly, flood hazard maps were created with 8 flood parameters and 3 different methods. Accuracies of these models were evaluated through AUC (Receiver Operating Characteristics Curve), ACC (Accuracy), R (Recall), P (Precision) and F (F-Score). Analyses showed that the Tree-Based Algorithms are more successful than the LR method in detecting the flood hazards. In addition, the altitude and precipitation were found out to be the most influential parameters in all 3 methods on the occurrence of flooding events in the region. Enhancing Meteorological Drought Modeling Accuracy Using Hybrid Boost Regression Models: A Case Study from the Aegean Region, Turkiye
The impact of climate change has led to significant changes in hydroclimatic patterns and continuous stress on water resources through frequent wet and dry spells. Hence, understanding and effectively addressing the escalating impact of climate change on hydroclimatic patterns, especially in the context of meteorological drought, necessitates precise modeling of these phenomena. This study focuses on assessing the accuracy of drought modeling using the well-established Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) in the Aegean region of Turkiye. The study utilizes monthly precipitation data from six stations in Cesme, Kusadasi, Manisa, Seferihisar, Selcuk and Izmir at Kucuk Menderes Basin covering the period from 1973 to 2020. The dataset is divided into three sets, training (60%), validation (20%), and testing (20%) sets. The study aims to determine the SPI-3, SPI-6 and SPI-12 using a multi-station prediction technique. Three boosting regression models (BRMs), namely Extreme Gradient Boosting (XgBoost), Adaptive Boosting (AdaBoost), and Gradient Boosting (GradBoost), were employed and optimized with the help of the Weighted Mean of Vectors (INFO) technique. Model performances were then evaluated with the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE), Mean Absolute Error (MAE), Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE), Coefficient of Determination (R-2) and the Willmott Index (WI). Results demonstrated a distinct superiority of the XgBoost model over AdaBoost and GradBoost in terms of accuracy. During the test phase, the XgBoost model achieved RMSEs of 0.496, 0.429 and 0.389 for SPI-3, SPI-6 and SPI-12, respectively. The WIs were 0.899, 0.901 and 0.825 for SPI-3, SPI-6 and SPI-12, respectively. These are considerably lower than the corresponding values obtained by the other models. Flexural performance of V-shaped RC folded plates: The role of plate thickness and fiber hybridization
Reinforced concrete folded plates (RC-FPs) are frequently used in structures such as industrial buildings, hangars, swimming pools, and sports halls due to their high load-bearing capacity, low self-weight, economic advantages, and architectural appearance. However, experimental studies on the reinforced concrete (RC) behavior of these new-generation structural members are very limited. For this purpose, this article investigated the effect of plate thickness and fiber hybridization on the flexural performance of V-shaped RC-FPs produced from self-compacting concrete (SCC). With this study, the experimental moment-curvature tool was used for the first time to evaluate the flexural performance of V-shaped RC-FP. A total of sixteen large-scale V-shaped RC-FP specimens with different plate thicknesses (50, 60, 70, and 80 mm) and fiber hybridization (single, binary, and ternary) were manufactured and subjected to a four-point loading after a 90-day curing period. After the experimental load-deflection and moment-curvature curves were obtained, load-bearing capacity, toughness, curvature ductility, and effective flexural stiffness values were calculated and also showed in the crack patterns for all large-scale V-shaped RC-FPs. The empirical equations with high-precision have been developed using multiple linear regression analysis for predicting the load-bearing capacity, toughness, curvature ductility, and effective flexural stiffness of V-shaped RC-FPs based on the parameters of plate thickness and fiber hybridization. Consequently, the use of hybrid fiber-reinforced SCC in the production of V-shaped RC-FPs exhibited superior properties in terms of flexural performance and crack behavior, as well as allowing for accelerated erection of the roof carrier system, resulting in significantly reducing construction time and costs. Clinical Characteristics and Outcomes of Cancer Cases Among Syrian Refugees From Southern Turkey
Importance Cancer was a common noncommunicable disease in Syria before the present conflict and is now a major disease burden among 3.6 million Syrian refugees in Turkey. Data to inform health care practice are needed. Objective To explore sociodemographic characteristics, clinical characteristics, and treatment outcomes of Syrian patients with cancer residing in the southern border provinces of Turkey hosting more than 50% of refugees. Design, Setting, and ParticipantsThis was a retrospective hospital-based cross-sectional study. The study sample consisted of all adult and children Syrian refugees diagnosed and/or treated for cancer between January 1, 2011, and December 31, 2020, in hematology-oncology departments of 8 university hospitals in the Southern province of Turkey. Data were analyzed from May 1, 2022, to September 30, 2022. Main Outcomes and Measures Demographic characteristics (date of birth, sex, and residence), date of first cancer-related symptom, date and place of diagnosis, disease status at first presentation, treatment modalities, date and status at last hospital visit, and date of death. The International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, Tenth Revision and International Classification of Childhood Cancers, Third Edition, were used for the classification of cancer. The Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results system was applied for staging. The diagnostic interval was defined as the number of days from first symptoms until the diagnosis. Treatment abandonment was documented if the patient did not attend the clinic within 4 weeks of a prescribed appointment throughout the treatment. Results A total of 1114 Syrian adult and 421 Syrian children with cancer were included. The median age at diagnosis was 48.2 (IQR, 34.2-59.4) years for adults and 5.7 (IQR, 3.1-10.7) years for children. The median diagnostic interval was 66 (IQR, 26.5-114.3) days for adults and 28 (IQR, 14.0-69.0) days for children. Breast cancer (154 [13.8%]), leukemia and multiple myeloma (147 [13.2%]), and lymphoma (141 [12.7%]) were common among adults, and leukemias (180 [42.8%]), lymphomas (66 [15.7%]), and central nervous system neoplasms (40 [9.5%]) were common among children. The median follow-up time was 37.5 (IQR, 32.6-42.3) months for adults and 25.4 (IQR, 20.9-29.9) months for children. The 5-year survival rate was 17.5% in adults and 29.7% in children. Conclusions and Relevance Despite universal health coverage and investment in the health care system, low survival rates were reported in this study for both adults and children with cancer. Muhammed Arif b. Muhammed Kadizade el-Erzurumi's life and the review of the work titled Serhu Ravzati'l-Cennat
Çalışmamız, Muhammed Ârif b. Muhammed Kâdızade el- Erzurumi'nin hayatı ve Şerhu Ravzati'l-Cennat adlı eserinin tahkik ve tahlilidir. Araştırmamızı iki bölüme ayırabiliriz: birincisi Kâdızade'nin hayatının araştırılması ikincisi ise Şerhu Ravzati'l-Cennat eserinin tahkiki için yaptığımız araştırmalar. Kâdızade'nin hayatı hakkında yaptığımız araştırmalar sonucunda kendisi hakkında pek fazla bilgi bulunmadığını gördük. TDV İslam Ansiklopesinde de kendisi hakkında herhangi bir bilgiye ulaşamadık. Daha sonra yöktez üzerinden yaptığımız araştırmalar sonucunda Kâdızade ve eserleri hakkında birkaç tane tez ve yine web üzerinden kendisi hakkında yapılan bildirimleri elde ettik. Kâdızade'nin hayatı ve eserlerini büyük çoğunlukla bu kaynaklar üzerinden ele aldık. İkinci olarak tahkikini yapacağımız eser için bazı araştırmalar yaptık. Farklı nüsha bulmak için yazma eserler kütüphanesinden istifade ettik. Burada eserin farklı nüsahlarının bulunduğunu tesbit ettik ancak bunlardan iki tanesiyle yetindik. Birincisi önceden elimizde bulunan müellif hattı ile yazılmış Esad Efendi nüshası, diğeri Manisa İl halk kütüphanesine kayıtlı Manisa nüshası. İki nüshası'yı öncelikle karşılaştırlamalı şekilde okuduk, okuduğumuz ve tahkikini yaptığımız yerleri word'e geçirdik. Nüshalarda çelişki olduğunda ifade ettikleri anlam ve arapça yazım kurallarına göre değerlendirme yaparak uygun olan ibareyi asıl metine diğer nüshadaki farklılığı ise dipnotta belirttik. Eserde geçen ayetleri Kur'ândaki sure ve ayet numaralarını tesbit edip yine dipnotta referanslarını belirttik. Bulabildiğimiz kadarıyla hadislerin kaynaklarını dipnotta belirttik. Bazı hadisleri hadis kaynaklarında bulamadığımızdan dolayı dipnotta ulaşamıdığımızı bildirdik. Okuyucunun konulara daha iyi vakıf olabilmesi için ve müracaat ederken kendisine kolaylık sağlasın diye konulara göre başlıklar koyduk. Eserde birçok konudan bahsedildiği için okurlara fayda saylayacağını düşünerek konuları paragraf olarak ayırdık. Yaptığımız çalışma sonucunda Kâdızade'nin Şerhu Ravzati'l-Cennat adlı eserinin tahkik ve tanıtımını yapmış olduk. Anahtar Kelimeler: Kelâm, Muhammed b. Muhammed Kâdızade el-Erzurumi and his work titled 'Şerhu Ravzati'l-Cennat.' We can divide our research into two parts: the first is the exploration of Kâdızade's life, and the second involves the research conducted for the analysis of the work 'Şerhu Ravzati'l-Cennat. As a result of our research on Kâdızade's life, we found that there is not much information available about him. We also couldn't find any information about him in the TDV Islamic Encyclopedia. Subsequently, through our research on academic databases, we obtained several theses related to Kâdızade and his works, as well as symposiums conducted on him available on the web. We mainly approached Kâdızade's life and works through these sources. In the first section, we compiled important information without extending it too much. Secondly, we conducted some research for the critical analysis of the work. We utilized the manuscript library to find different copies of the work. Here, we identified the existence of various versions of the manuscript, but we could access only two of them. The first one is the Esad Efendi copy written in the author's handwriting, which we already had in our possession, and the other one is the Manisa copy registered in the Manisa Public Library. We first read and transcribed the two copies in a comparative manner. We transferred the places we read and analyzed to Microsoft Word. When there were discrepancies between the copies, we evaluated the meaning they conveyed and the Arabic writing rules, then incorporated the appropriate phrasing into the original text. We mentioned in the footnotes that we couldn't access some hadiths because we couldn't find them in the hadith sources. To enable the reader to have a better understanding of the topics and for ease of reference, we added headings based on the subjects. Since various topics were discussed in the work, we divided them into paragraphs, believing it would be beneficial for the readers. As a result of our study, with the permission of Allah, we succeeded in conducting the analysis of Kadızade's work 'Şerhu Ravzati'l-Cennat' as we desired. Reinforcer usage levels of religious culture and ethics teachers
Bu araştırmada Din Kültürü ve Ahlak Bilgisi (DKAB) öğretmenlerinin pekiştireç kullanım düzeylerini tespit etmek amaçlanmıştır. Aynı zamanda pekiştirme uygulamalarının öğrencide istenilen davranış değişikliğini oluşturmadaki rolü ve önemini belirtmek hedeflenmiştir. Araştırmanın çalışma evrenini; 2023-2024 eğitim-öğretim yılında Malatya ili merkez ilçeleri olan Battalgazi ve Yeşilyurt ilçelerindeki resmi ilkokul ve ortaokullarda görev yapan 613 DKAB öğretmeni oluşturmaktadır. Çalışma evreni üzerinden tesadüfi örneklem seçimiyle belirlenmiş 323 DKAB öğretmeni ise, örneklem grubunu oluşturmaktadır. Bu çalışma nicel bir araştırma olup, araştırmada genel tarama modeli kullanılmıştır. Araştırma kapsamında DKAB öğretmenlerinin pekiştireç kullanım düzeylerini tespit etmek için Özcan (1998) tarafından geliştirilen ''Pekiştireç Kullanmayla İlgili Tutum Ölçeği (PKİTÖ)'' kullanılmıştır. Veriler normal dağılım gösterdiği için istatiksel analizlerde parametrik testler kullanılmıştır. Katılımcıların bazı bağımsız değişkenlere (cinsiyet, medeni durum, okul türü, eğitim durumu, yaş, hizmet süresi) göre anlamlı bir farklılık gösterip göstermediğini belirlemek üzere, bağımsız örneklem t testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi (ANOVA) yapılmıştır. Araştırmanın bulgularına göre DKAB öğretmenlerinin pekiştireç kullanım düzeyleri yüksektir. DKAB öğretmenlerinin pekiştireç kullanım düzeylerinde ''cinsiyet'' değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farklılık olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Bu farklılaşma kadın öğretmenlerin lehinedir. Pekiştireç kullanım düzeylerinde ''medeni durum'' değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmamıştır. ''Okul türü'' değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farklılık görülmüştür. İlkokul öğretmenlerinin pekiştireç kullanım düzeylerinin ortaokul öğretmenlerine göre daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. ''Eğitim durumu'' değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmamıştır ''Yaş'' değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farklılık ortaya çıkmıştır. 41 yaş ve üzeri öğretmenlerin pekiştireç kullanım düzeyleri daha yüksek çıkmıştır. ''Hizmet süresi'' değişkeni açısından anlamlı bir farklılık bulunmamıştır. Araştırmanın sonuç bölümünde ise elde edilen bulgular doğrultusunda çeşitli öneriler geliştirilmiştir. At the same time, it is aimed to indicate the role and importance of reinforcement practices in creating the desired behavioral change in the student. The study consists of 613 Religious Culture and Ethics teachers working in official primary and secondary schools in Battalgazi and Yeşilyurt districts which are the central districts of Malatya province in the 2023-2024 academic year. 323 Religious Culture and Ethics teachers who are determined by random sampling from the study population, constitute the sample group. This study is a quantitative research and the general screening model was used in the research. Within the scope of the research, the ''Attitude Scale on Reinforcement Use'' developed by Özcan (1998) was used to determine the reinforcer usage levels of Religious Culture and Ethics teachers. As the data shows the normal distribution, parametric tests were used in statistical analyses. Independent sample t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were conducted to determine whether the participants showed significant differences according to some independent variables (gender, marital status, school type, educational status, age, length of service). According to the findings of the research, Reinforcement usage levels of Religious Culture and Ethics teachers are high. It was determined that there was an important difference in the reinforcer usage levels of Religious Culture and Ethics teachers in terms of the ''gender'' variable. This differentiation is in favor of male teachers. It was not found that there was significant difference in reinforcer use levels in terms of the ''marital status'' variable. A significant difference was observed in terms of the ''school type'' variable. It was determined that primary school teachers' reinforcement usage levels were higher than secondary school teachers. No significant difference was found in terms of the ''Educational status'' variable, but a significant difference emerged in terms of the ''Age'' variable. Reinforcement usage levels of teachers aged 41 and over were higher. There was no significant difference in terms of the ''duration of service''variable. Coronavirus (COVİD-19)'effects on famous sports industry
Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, Koronavirüs (Covid-19)'ün spor endüstrisine etkilerini belirlenen temalar kapsamında ayrıntılı olarak incelenerek, spor endüstrisinde yaşanan kriz durumunun yönetilmesi ve araştırılması kapsamını oluşturmaktadır. Materyal ve Metot: Bu araştırmada Nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden Genel Tarama Modeli ile değerlendirilmiştir. Araştırma için hedeflenen olgu veya olgular hakkında bilgi içeren yazılı ve görsel materyaller incelendi. Doküman incelemesi sonucunda elde edilen verilerin analizinde betimsel analiz kullanılmıştır. Betimsel analiz yapılırken, verilerin daha önceden belirlenen temalara uygun özetlenmiş, yorumlanmış, sistematik ve net bir şekilde betimlenmiştir. Bulgular: Betimsel çalışma kapsamında oluşturulan temalar ayrı ayrı olarak değerlendirildiğinde Covid-19'un spor endüstrisi üzerinde ekonomik, sosyal ve toplumsal etkilerinin olduğunu ortaya koydu. Sonuç: Tarihte daha öncede çeşitli pandemiler ve krizler yaşanmıştır. İleriki zamanlarda tekrardan kendimizi bir krizin ya da pandeminin içinde bulmayacağımızın bir garantisi verilmemektedir. Çalışmamız sonucunda şunu anlıyoruz; Dünya'da ve Türkiye'de ekonomik anlamda krizlerle mücadele etme konusunda tedbirsiz ve hazırlıksız olduğudur. Aynı şekilde spor endüstrisi yaşanılan Salgına hazırlıksız yakalanmış ve oldukça sıkıntılı bir süreç yaşamıştır. Spor endüstrisinde yaşanılan kayıplar telafisi olmayan ve peşinde ciddi izler bırakmıştır. Tüm bu durum karşısında spor organizasyonları, işletmeler, medya organları, pazarlama ilişkileri ve insan kaynakları salgının devam etme olasılığına karşı çeşitli tedbir alma yollarına gitmiştir. Yeni dünya dizayn etme sloganıyla alışkanlıklarımızın değişeceği ve Covid-19 gibi salgınlar ile yaşama ve mücadele etmeye yönelik yaklaşımlar geliştirilmiştir. Bu süreçte geliştirilen simülasyonlar, on-line eğitim paketleri ve uygulamalar insanların salgından kendini korumaları ve aynı şekilde gündelik yaşamlarından uzaklaşmamak için oldukça verimli kullanılmıştır. Bu durum krizin fırsata çevrilmesi olarak ta görebiliriz.Aim: The aim of this study is to examine the effects of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) on the sports industry in detail within the scope of the determined themes, and form the scope of management and research of the crisis situation in the sports industry. Materials and Methods: In this study, it was evaluated with the General Screening Model, which is one of the qualitative research methods. Written and visual materials containing information about the case or cases targeted for the research were examined. Descriptive analysis was used in the analysis of the data obtained as a result of the document review. During the descriptive analysis, the data were summarized, interpreted, systematically and clearly described in accordance with the previously determined themes. Results: When the themes created within the scope of the descriptive study were evaluated separately, it was revealed that Covid-19 had economic, social and societal effects in the sports industry. Conclusion: Various pandemics and crises have occurred before in history. There is no guarantee that we will not find ourselves in a crisis or a pandemic again in the future. As a result of our work, we understand that; It is imprudent and unprepared to deal with economic crises in the world and in Turkey. Likewise, the sports industry was caught unprepared for the Pandemic and experienced a very troublesome process. The losses experienced in the sports industry have left irreparable and serious traces. In the face of all this situation, sports organizations, businesses, media organs, marketing relations and human resources have taken various measures against the possibility of the epidemic to continue. With the slogan of designing a new world, approaches have been developed to change our habits and to live and struggle with epidemics such as Covid-19. Simulations, on-line training packages and applications developed in this process have been used very efficiently to protect people from the epidemic and also to stay away from their daily lives. We can see this situation as turning the crisis into an opportunity
Acceleration of proteolysis, flavour development and enhanced bioactivity in a model cheese using Kuflu cheese slurry: An optimisation study
This study aimed to use Kuflu (a mould-ripened cheese) cheese slurry to accelerate ripening, improve biological activity and flavour development in a model cheese in terms of proteolysis and volatile compounds. Response surface methodology (RSM) was employed for the model cheese to determine higher proteolysis and volatile development level during ripening as a function of Kuflu cheese slurry addition level (0-5 %), salt concentration (1-3 %) and ripening temperature (5-15 C-?). The highest aminopeptidase activities (0.140 and 0.187 OD/g per hour) were determined in 15-day-old samples containing 3 % and 5 % Kuflu cheese slurry, respectively. Also, the use of Kuflu cheese slurry, regardless of ripening, caused an increase in ABTS(*+) antioxidants, angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibition activity and volatile compounds in model cheeses. The sensory evalua-tion indicated that the use of 3 % (w/w) Kuflu cheese slurry, storage temperature 10 ?C for 15 days provided better flavour, odour, texture, colour, appearance and overall acceptability.
