Maximizing the efficacy and feasibility of projection-based augmented reality exposure therapy for the treatment of cockroach phobia
Compendi d'articlesIn vivo exposure therapy is the most effective treatment for specific phobias, but it presents limitations in the generalization and long-term maintenance of therapeutic gains. Augmented reality exposure therapy, particularly projection-based augmented reality exposure therapy (P-ARET), emerges as a promising alternative by enabling controlled, safe, and realistic exposure experiences. This thesis focuses on enhancing treatment efficacy through stimulus variability. The main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of varying phobic stimuli during P-ARET for cockroach phobia by comparing single-stimulus (SS) and multiple-stimulus (MS) exposure conditions in a randomized clinical trial (RCT). Four studies were conducted: a systematic review on stimulus and context variability in exposure therapy, the development of an RCT protocol, a single-case study and a RCT. Results showed significant improvements in both conditions, with MS being perceived as more effective despite higher aversiveness. These findings highlight the clinical potential of stimulus variability combined with augmented reality.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi

Impact of early life experiences on effort-based decision-making and mesolimbic CDNF: studies in mice of both sexes
Doctorat internacionalMotivation involves processes that regulate the direction and intensity of behavior, with impairments in its activational component (anergia) being central to several neuropsychiatric disorders. Dopamine signaling in the mesolimbic system, particularly in the nucleus accumbens, plays a key role in effort-related behavior, and vulnerability to motivational dysfunctions may be shaped by early-life experiences, sex, and age. This dissertation uses translational rodent models to examine how early-life manipulations affect effort-based decision-making and related behaviors in male and female mice across the lifespan. Behavioral tasks assessed willingness to exert effort, preference for active reinforcers, and depression-related symptoms. Additionally, the work provides a detailed characterization of the cerebral dopamine neurotrophic factor (CDNF) within dopaminergic pathways, focusing on its role in motivation. Overall, the findings highlight how developmental experiences and biological variables influence motivational processes, with implications for identifying vulnerability and resilience and for developing more personalized treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi
Microwave-Assisted Synthesis of CsPbBr3 Perovskite Nanocrystals for Optoelectronic Applications Resum de la tesi (Anglès)
Compendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalPerovskite nanocrystals have emerged as outstanding materials for optoelectronic applications due to their tunable composition, bright emission, and tolerance to defects. Among them, all-inorganic CsPbBr3 nanocrystals exhibit exceptional photoluminescence and stability, making them ideal for next-generation LEDs. However, conventional hot-injection synthesis is complex, energy-intensive, and unsuitable for scale-up. This Ph.D. thesis explores microwave-assisted synthesis as a fast, sustainable alternative, enabling precise control of crystal size and halide composition while achieving high photoluminescence quantum yields after purification. The resulting nanocrystals were successfully integrated into LEDs, showing sharp emission, high efficiency, and excellent luminance. A life cycle assessment revealed that microwave synthesis dramatically reduces energy consumption compared to conventional methods, without compromising material quality. Overall, this work demonstrates that microwave-assisted strategies combine performance and sustainability, offering a scalable route for high-quality CsPbBr3 nanocrystals and advancing their integration into practical optoelectronic technologies.
The growing cultural and linguistic fusion of our contemporary world also becomes evident in what is known as intercultural literature. Characteristic of this “genre” is the innovative use of the language in which it is written, as well as echoes from the authors' first language. This work investigates the extent to which and the ways in which interculturality is reflected in the linguistic and aesthetic dimensions of texts when they are translated into a third language. The study focuses on four works by two authors who write in German —Emine Sevgi Özdamar, of Turkish origin, and Yoko Tawada, of Japanese origin— and their translations into Spanish, specifically on three microtextual elements that convey interculturality: metaphors, modified idiomatic expressions, and ad hoc compounds. The analysis shows that, with some nuances, the innovative character and “strangeness” of these elements are preserved in the translations.
When it comes to the history of the automotive in the province of Castellon, since its origins to the trump of utility vehicle (1909-1953), this subject has been totally overlooked by investigators as something worth of being attended. I feel strongly that, for this reason, the current doctoral thesis fills a gap in our understanding concerning of the social evolution of this province, and offers information that will help in order to complete the view that, from today's perspective, can be gained of that period. The time studied was particularly turbulent and traumatic, “age of catastrophes”, to quote Eric Hobsbawm. These are times that, although not so far removed from the present in historical terms, are certainly so in vital terms, and many key aspects that would aid to their exegesis still remain obscure.

This research analyzes the cultural tensions between China and the West and their impact on the transformation of the hero figure in Zhang Yimou’s cinema. To this end, the cinematic narrative is approached as a contemporary myth, in which the hero—understood as an archetype—serves as a reflection of the Chinese collective imagination. The methodology combines the analysis of non-verbal elements with anthropological fieldwork, allowing for an exploration not only of the films themselves but also of their reception within specific spatial and temporal contexts. Although the findings highlight the complexity of the phenomenon, three key aspects are identified: (1) distinctive traits of the Chinese heroic narrative compared to its Western counterpart, (2) the coexistence of multiple discourses surrounding the hero, and (3) a clear evolution in its representation, linked to sociohistorical changes in China.

Stimuli-Responsive NHC-based Pincer Complexes for Catalysis
Compendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalThis Doctoral Thesis demonstrates the potential of supramolecular and anion‑induced redox interactions as effective tools to endow transition metal pincer complexes with adaptive and reversible control over their electronic properties, and consequently over their catalytic behaviour. Systematic studies on Rh(I), Mn(I), and Pd(II) platforms revealed that these interactions can independently modulate the electronic structure and reactivity in a controlled and reversible manner. The incorporation of the NDI moiety transforms the pincer ligand into a multistimuli-responsive unit that mediates communication between external additives—such as halides and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons—and the electronic state of the metal centre. This strategy moves beyond static ligand design and introduces a dynamic approach to catalyst tuning, enabling reversible switching between distinct activity states using mild and easily accessible stimuli. Overall, the study highlights supramolecular and redox-active ligand frameworks as versatile platforms for developing next-generation stimulus-responsive catalysts.Programa de Doctorat en Cièncie
