EMPODER - A(R)'T: Estàs bé i et sents bé?

    No full text

Assessing LDL-C Levels and Lipid-Modifying Therapies in a Real-World Cohort of Patients with Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease: The REALITY Study

    No full text
Background and Objectives: Patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) remain at high risk of recurrent events. REALITY aims to analyse the actual levels of low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), the modalities of lipid-lowering therapies (LLT) used, and ASCVD patient outcomes in a real-world setting in Spain. Methods: REALITY is a retrospective observational study conducted using a healthcare database of 1.8 million patients representative of the Spanish population. The study included 26,976 patients with new or recurrent ASCVD events recruited from 2017 to 2019 and followed up for two years. Results: Management of ASCVD involved the utilisation of high-intensity (53%) or very high-intensity (36%) LLT. After two years, a decrease in total cholesterol (from 228.7 to 176.7 mg/dL), LDL-C (from 126.4 to 99.0 mg/dL), and triglycerides (from 216.7 to 163.7 mg/dL), accompanied by a moderate increase in HDL-C levels was observed. However, LDL-C goals of ESC/EAS guidelines were only reached by a minority of patients. Less than 15% of ASCVD patients achieved their LDL-C goals of <70, as stated in contemporary guidelines (3% if the present <55 mg/dL threshold in the ESC/EAS guidelines is considered). During the follow-up period, 9% of ASCVD patients died and 25% experienced a new ASCVD event. Conclusions: In the REALITY study, most patients did not achieve their target LDL-C goals despite receiving high- or very high-intensity LLT. Increasing the utilisation of extreme LLT is crucial to reducing recurrent ASCVD events and mitigating these patients’ high morbidity and mortality risk

Leveraging GIS and SfM photogrammetry for monitoring and risk assessment of rock art sites

    No full text
The application of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in archaeology, particularly in approaches to rock art, has significantly enhanced the analysis and management of these cultural heritage sites. GIS tools facilitate the mapping of rock art territories, assessment of land relief, identification of mobility patterns and evaluation of conservation issues. Recent developments have also integrated GIS with 3D modeling to enhance the visualisation of painted art. This paper assesses the efficacy of GIS and photogrammetry-based techniques as a diagnostic tool for the detection and monitoring of physical alterations in rock art sites, such as rockfalls and fractures, which could compromise the structural integrity of the art and the safety of the site. The methodology combines Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) generated through photogrammetry to track surface changes, offering a non-invasive means of monitoring rock integrity over time. This approach is designed to inform preservation strategies, identify and quantify deterioration, and mitigate risks to both the heritage and visitors, thereby contributing to the long-term conservation of rock art sites

Terminology in Spain and its place in the world

    No full text
This chapter explores the evolution of terminology in Spain, tracing its journey from early stages to contemporary practices. Key institutions, influential figures, and foundational theoretical frameworks that have shaped the discipline are examined. The role of the Real Academia Española and other scientific institutions in standardising terminology is highlighted. The contributions of scholars such as Amelia de Irazazábal and the impact of political and cultural changes on terminology development are analysed. The chapter delves into key theoretical perspectives, including Teresa Cabré’s Communicative Theory of Terminology and Pamela Faber’s Frame-based Terminology. These theories offer valuable insights into the cognitive and communicative aspects of terminology. Finally, the chapter emphasises the growth and diversification of terminology research in Spain, with the establishment of new research groups and the integration of terminology into various academic and professional fields

Decoupling Structural and Quantitative Knowledge in ReLU-based Deep Neural Networks

    No full text
Proceedings of: 5th Workshop on Machine Learning and Systems (EuroMLSys 2025)The relentless growth of artificial intelligence applications has led to substantial economic and environmental costs associated with training deep neural networks (DNNs). Recognizing the challenges in further optimizing conventional DNN training, in this paper we propose a novel approach that decouples structural information (non-linear functions) from quantitative knowledge (model parameters), and provide strong experimental evidence to demonstrate that these two types of knowledge can be trained independently. We evidence that ReLU-based DNNs can be deployed as globally linear models, from which different parts of the DNN are active for each sample, thus emulating the piece-wise linear outputs generated by ReLU activation functions. Leveraging this linear model foundation, this kind of DNN supports various objectives, including faster re-training times and combining multiple copies trained on different datasets for incremental and federated re-training

A right to the news? Moral justification and legalprotection of citizens’ right to information

    No full text
Some argue that such a right is impracticable because the obligations it would generate would entail a de facto suppression of journalistic freedoms. In this article, I argue that this problem only affects the right to the news if conceived as an individual legal right. Yet, conceived as a moral right, citizens’ right to the news is not only compatible with journalistic freedoms but also the moral foundation of the journalistic institution itself. Moreover, I argue that citizens’ right to the news can (and should) have significant legal effects, as it imposes upon public administrations an obligation to implement measures to protect it, which I classifyinto direct and indirect protections

A comprehensive analysis of the impact of binge eating disorders on lifestyle in Spain

    No full text
Background/Objectives: Binge Eating Disorders are severe mental and physical health conditions, closely linked to lifestyle habits. The aims are to describe the prevalence of Binge Eating Disorders and their correlation with nutritional habits and lifestyle factors within the Spanish population. Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional design was employed. Using non-probabilistic snowball sampling, an electronic survey was released. A total of 22,181 Spanish adults were evaluated, excluding those with any pathology or limitation at the time of survey response that could potentially affect their diet, such as hospitalization or confinement. The validated Nutritional and Social Healthy Habits (NutSo-HH) scale was used to collect data on nutrition, lifestyle, health habits, and socio-demographic variables. Descriptive and inferential statistics were used. Non-parametric tests were applied due to non-normal distribution. Results: Of the 22,181 sample subject (80.8% female), a total number of 260 individuals reported Binge Eating Disorder. The prevalence of Binge Eating Disorder was higher in women than in men (239 vs. 21 respectfully; 91.9%). Individuals with Binge Eating Disorder exhibited poorer nutritional indices (p < 0.001), higher consumption of ultra-processed and fast food (p < 0.001), sugary soft drinks (p = 0.01), and worse sleep quality (p < 0.001). Although time dedicated to physical activity was not different, individuals with Binge Eating Disorder were more sedentary and had lower health status (p = 0.11 for sport practice). Behavioral regulation plays a key role in managing BED, highlighting the need for personalized intervention strategies. Conclusions: Binge Eating Disorders are associated with lifestyle and health habits and worse quality of life. These data can help design public health programs for early detection and effective treatment
