The data that support the findings of this study are openly available in Figshare at: https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.28417490Exercise Dependence (ED) refers to uncontrollable, excessive exercise with harmful effects on life. This study used machine learning to identify behavioral and psychological factors contributing to ED risk. A multi-step procedure was implemented for model construction and validation, utilizing controlled feature selection and bootstrapping. Data were collected over three time points in diverse contexts (GR2021-22–23), recruiting 1099 participants (707 males, 64.3 %; 392 females, 35.7 %) with an average age of 24.8 ± 7.8 years. Based on the Exercise Dependence Scale-Revised (EDS-R), 5.6 % (n = 62) were classified as “At Risk” of ED, 50.9 % (n = 559) as “Non-Dependent-Symptomatic,” and 43.5 % (n = 478) as “Non-Dependent-Asymptomatic.” The final model predicted the GR2023 dataset with MAE = 6.90, R2 = 0.59, and RE = 9.08 %. Predictive performance on the GR2022 dataset was MAE = 5.65, R2 = 0.79, and RE = 6.73 %, while performance on the GR2021 dataset achieved MAE = 7.60, R2 = 0.58, and RE = 7.24 %. Perfectionism consistently emerged as the most important predictors, followed by Drive for Thinness, Drive for Muscularity, and sport characteristics. Result generalization was confirmed by a complementary, whole-data analysis. This study establishes a foundation for developing quantitative risk profiles for ED by analyzing multidimensional constructs and their contributions through interpretable machine learning. The methodology offers insights into how personality, psychological, and behavioral dimensions shape risk attitudes and provides robust predictive tools for assessing ED risk in sports contexts.Part of this study was funded by the Government Delegation for the National Drugs Plan through the MORPHEO project (2023I031)

When it comes to the history of the automotive in the province of Castellon, since its origins to the trump of utility vehicle (1909-1953), this subject has been totally overlooked by investigators as something worth of being attended. I feel strongly that, for this reason, the current doctoral thesis fills a gap in our understanding concerning of the social evolution of this province, and offers information that will help in order to complete the view that, from today's perspective, can be gained of that period. The time studied was particularly turbulent and traumatic, “age of catastrophes”, to quote Eric Hobsbawm. These are times that, although not so far removed from the present in historical terms, are certainly so in vital terms, and many key aspects that would aid to their exegesis still remain obscure.Programa de Doctorat en Història i Estudis Contemporani

From knowledge to impact: Educating future business leaders in circular economy practices

    No full text
The transition to a circular economy (CE) represents a crucial challenge and opportunity in the pursuit of sustainable development. Universities, as key agents of knowledge creation and social transformation, must play an active role in training future professionals capable of designing and implementing sustainable business models that foster circular ecosystems. Especially in undergraduate and graduate programs focused on business and economics, integrating CE principles into academic curricula is essential to equip students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to respond to complex environmental, economic, and social challenges. This innovative educational proposal attempts to foster students' critical thinking by teaching them key concepts of the circular economy and sustainability through engaging and effective learning tools. This educational innovation proposal is based on the results of the Erasmus+ CE-IP (Circular Economy in Practice) project, coordinated by the Universitat Jaume I (UJI). Its objective is to promote the integration of CE principles into higher education curricula, especially in business disciplines, through the use of multimedia tools, gamification, and student-centered learning methodologies. The proposal focuses on how these approaches foster students' skills, motivation, and awareness of sustainability, as well as motivation and participation (Muñoz, 2025). Furthermore, the initiative proposes the incorporation of a system of environmental, social, and economic indicators to measure the impact of potential sustainability good practices hosted on the CE-IP 360º web platform. This chapter, after presenting the main aspects of circular economy in the introduction, shows the background of the proposal, in which the Erasmus+ CE-IP project is highlighted, since it provides the basis for the development of the proposed educational initiative. The subsequent sections outline the methodology for its implementation, the expected results, and the conclusions

Influence of vehicle–track–bridge–soil interaction on the dynamic behaviour of railway bridges for accurate prediction of their vibratory response

    No full text
Compendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalRailway transport has experienced a sustained development in recent decades characterised by increases in the travelling speed and the operating capacity of many railway lines. As these conditions are also expected in the long-term, they pose a significant challenge for the infrastructure, as it will have to withstand more demanding conditions. Thus, a thorough understanding of the train-induced vibration problem in railway bridges is key to ensuring the required levels of quality, safety and reliability in these critical structures. However, their dynamic behaviour is complex and is affected by multiple factors, among which the vehicle–track–bridge–soil interaction is particularly important. For this reason, the main objective of this thesis is to investigate its influence on the dynamic response of railway bridges with the aim of providing deeper insight into the phenomena involved and to achieve more accurate predictions of the bridge performance under operating conditions.Programa de Doctorat en Tecnologies Industrials i Material

Loneliness among older adults: Detection through technology and reminiscence-based interventions

    No full text
Compendi d'articlesThis doctoral thesis explores loneliness in older adults through a proof-of-concept approach integrating technological detection and reminiscence-based interventions. The first aim was to develop and assess digital methodologies for detecting loneliness, including the validation of a chatbot-administered version of the 6-item De Jong Gierveld Loneliness Scale and the exploration of machine learning models for identifying linguistic patterns associated with loneliness. The second aim focused on reminiscence as an intervention strategy, comprising a systematic review following PRISMA guidelines and a pilot group intervention for adults over 60. Findings suggest that chatbot-based assessment and language models show promising potential for scalable detection, while reminiscence interventions may help reduce emotional loneliness and enhance psychological well-being. Although exploratory, the results highlight significant research gaps and point toward the value of combining technological and human-centered approaches to better address loneliness in later life.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi

La comunicación del propósito corporativo en organizaciones con impacto positivo. Sinergias y comparaciones entre las prácticas de las B Corporations y de las ONG.

    No full text
In a context where companies are called to act as agents of social change, corporate purpose emerges as an evolution of corporate social responsibility and as a strategic axis of corporate communication. Through a qualitative research design structured in four phases (content analysis, horizontal comparison, expert interviews, and triangulation) the study explores the differences and synergies between both organizational models. The findings reveal that while B Corporations are founded with an activated purpose, NGOs face challenges in updating their communication strategies. The research concludes that purpose only generates impact when it is activated, coherently communicated, and connected to action, proposing a framework to enhance the integration and communication of purpose in organizations operating with limited resources.Programa de Doctorat en Ciències de la Comunicaci

Improving heat-to-electricity energy conversion with thermoelectric materials by means of electrochemical strategies

    No full text
Compendi d'articlesApproximately 72% of global energy consumption is lost in the form of waste heat. Thermoelectric (TE) devices have gained significant attention owing to their potential to transform heat into electricity, thus contributing to mitigate the present energy crisis. The TE performance is evaluated by the figure of merit zT=S2σT/κ, where S denotes the Seebeck coefficient, σ is the electrical conductivity, T represents the absolute temperature, and κ refers the thermal conductivity. Therefore, obtaining a high zT requires a large power factor (PF=S2σ) together with low κ. This thesis explores the enhancement of the PF in PEDOT:PSS, Ag-ZnO composite, bismuth/antimony telluride alloys, and Sb-doped SnO2 through electrochemical strategies. Upon treatment with 4,4'-bipyridine or LiBF4, PEDOT:PSS exhibited over 3 times PF enhancements. Ag-ZnO combined with BMII ionic liquid resulted in a 1.5-fold increase in the PF. Sb-doped SnO2 functionalized with redox molecules produced 2.5-fold PF improvements.Programa de Doctorat en Tecnologies Industrials i Material
