    No full text
This thesis analyzes how social capital (bonding and bridging) and entrepreneurial orientation influence the economic and environmental outcomes of tourism businesses in the rural destination of Els Ports (Spain). Through a territorial approach, a theoretical model is proposed and validated using structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM), along with qualitative and cartographic tools. The results show that bonding capital positively impacts both types of outcomes, while bridging capital stands out in environmental ones. Entrepreneurial orientation partially moderates these effects. The thesis offers an integrated framework to understand tourism business dynamics in rural areas and proposes future research focused on longitudinal and comparative analyses, as well as on strengthening entrepreneurial and collaborative capacities in specific territorial contexts. It concludes that the combination of internal social networks and strategic entrepreneurial capacities enhances sustainable business performance in rural tourism destinations such as Els Ports.Programa de Doctorat en Desenvolupament Local i Cooperació Internaciona

Mechanical self-healing of conventional and high-performance concrete incorporating SAP, crystalline admixture, and sepiolite

    No full text
This study evaluates the efficiency of autogenous healing and self-healing agents in restoring mechanical properties through three-point bending tests. The healing agents investigated include a crystalline admixture, superabsorbent polymer, and sepiolite in ordinary concrete (OC) and a crystalline admixture in high-performance concrete (HPC). Various healing conditions were compared, including: water immersion (28 and 56 days), humidity chamber storage, and pre-saturation combined with humidity chamber. Mechanical recovery was analyzed using flexural strength tests loading-reloading curves. A reference series (CTL) was introduced to differentiate healing effects from natural maturation. Strength and stiffness recovery parameters confirmed distinct self-healing effects. The results show that crystalline admixtures provided limited additional benefits beyond natural autogenous healing and that superabsorbent polymers and sepiolite improved self-healing in high humidity conditions. The introduced stiffness recovery parameters could detect healing effects, setting a methodological advancement over conventional indices.Funding for open access charge: CRUE-Universitat Jaume

«Silent into Camelot».

    No full text

Codi: SJK016. Curs acadèmic: 2024-2025Functional capacity represents the ability of the patient to perform basic daily activities independently, such as feeding, bathing, or mobilizing, and serves as a central indicator of autonomy and quality of life. In nursing, assessing functional capacity is essential for determining the intensity of care required, i.e., the frequency and scope of nursing actions necessary to meet unmet patient needs. Nursing intensity thus reflects not only the physical workload but also the professional judgment involved in ensuring patient safety, comfort, and recovery throughout hospitalization. This study applied Process Mining techniques to analyze functional capacity and nursing care intensity in hospitalization units at La Plana University Hospital. The analysis focused on the use of traditional assessment instruments (Downton, Barthel, and Braden) as well as the integrated VALENF instrument, examining how these indexes are applied in practice and identifying patterns, redundancies, and deviations in the nursing documentation process. Process Discovery was first performed to reconstruct the actual nursing care processes from the event log, followed by Conformance Checking to compare these discovered processes against the BPMN-modeled reference, and finally predictive analysis to anticipate discharge outcomes and classification of functional capacity of the patient. Predictive modeling further showed that early hospitalization data could estimate discharge Barthel scores with moderate accuracy (R2 approx: 0.6), supporting the potential for anticipatory planning of nursing workloads. Actual structure and sequence of nursing assessments revealed in Process Discovery, highlight the variations in how functional capacity and risk evaluations are performed throughout hospitalization. Offering a clearer view of the real workflow compared to the theoretical model. Deviations identified in Conformance Checking were mainly associated with documentation gaps rather than clinical inconsistencies, suggesting opportunities to streamline recording practices and improve data completeness

Design of a methodological model for territorial diagnosis for territorial planning based on local knowledge and the population's perception of their region, as a complement to the technical diagnosis, applied in the territorial system of the Association of Municipalities of Northern Morazán in El Salvador, Central America.Programa de Doctorat en Desenvolupament Local i Cooperació Internaciona

Development of an analytical model for contaminant emission rates from passive cavities: CFD-based assessment and application to wastewater facilities

    No full text
Odour emissions from open tanks in wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are difficult to quantify in real facilities because long-term atmospheric variability, heterogeneous geometries, fluctuations in wastewater composition, and site constraints hinder the creation of reliable measurement datasets, leaving dispersion models without defensible source terms. To address this gap, we generated a large synthetic database with two-dimensional computational fluid dynamics (CFD) using a Reynolds-averaged turbulence model across representative WWTP geometries and wind conditions. Based on the CFD results, an analytical correlation for the emission rate (ER) was developed for the closed and open regimes, directly linking ER to the Reynolds number and cavity geometry aspect ratio. The proposed correlation reproduces the CFD database with RMSE = 4.99·10⁻⁵ mol/s, and R² = 0.932; a mesh-independence check indicates mesh-induced uncertainty below 1 % for the emission metric, supporting numerical robustness. Validation focused on the flow physics: simulated velocity fields were compared with published laboratory benchmarks for cavity-type flows, confirming the mean recirculation structures that control emission; direct emission measurements for passive tanks were not available, so emission magnitudes were checked for order-of-magnitude consistency against standard mass-transfer analogies. The approach assumes a simplified two-dimensional, neutrally stratified flow and may be less accurate where strong three-dimensionality, unsteadiness, or buoyancy effects dominate; targeted case studies considering more advanced modeling approaches and field measurements are identified as next steps to extend applicability to complex sites. However, the proposed expression provides a practical, fast source-term input for odour dispersion studies of passive WWTP sources within the calibrated range, enabling screening, sensitivity analysis, comprehensive odour impact assessments and integration into plant-scale modeling without case-by-case coefficient tuning

Compendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalTo address the challenges posed by climate change and global warming, there is a pressing need to utilise renewable materials that can be obtained in a safe and environmentally friendly manner. The utilisation of biomass as a source of chemicals represents a revolutionary methodology with the potential to overcome humanity's reliance on fossil resources. Electrochemical technologies are advantageous in synthesising value-added products from biomass at atmospheric temperature and pressure, utilising water as a solvent and concurrently as a source of oxygen and hydrogen atoms and regulating chemical reactions through the application of electrical potential. In this study, inexpensive materials such as Cu and graphite, with slight modifications of catalytic metals such as Pd, Ag, Ni, were used for the electrochemical production of compounds that are used to produce polymeric materials, biofuels, pharmaceutical industry, etc.Programa de Doctorat en Cièncie

Cognitive training in Multiple Sclerosis: behavioural and neuroimaging evidence from a restorative working memory training.

    No full text
Compendi d'articles, Doctorat internacionalPeople with Multiple Sclerosis (PwMS) often experience cognitive impairment, particularly affecting working memory (WM) and information processing speed (IPS). This thesis aimed to evaluate the effects of an intensive WM training program in PwMS and identify clinical and neurobiological predictors of its efficacy. Thirty-five PwMS completed a 10-day n-back training and underwent neuropsychological and neuroimaging assessments before and after the intervention. Results showed significant improvements in both the trained task and untrained WM/IPS tasks, indicating near transfer effects. Thalamic volume and baseline WM/IPS performance had a direct influence on training outcomes, with the latter mediating the impact of other variables. Resting-state functional connectivity of the default mode network (rsFC-DMN) emerged as the most robust predictor. Overall, the training proved effective in PwMS, and both structural and cognitive integrity, along with baseline rsFC-DMN, predicted the extent of the benefits. This project underscores the relevance of timely cognitive rehabilitation.Programa de Doctorat en Psicologi
