Multi-modal consistent loss diffusion model for Sentinel-3 single image super resolution
In the context of Earth observation, the trade-off between spatial, spectral, and temporal resolution often limits the versatility of remote sensing images in many important applications. In response, this paper introduces a novel deep learning diffusion model, specifically tailored to improve the spatial resolution of the optical products acquired by the Sentinel-3 (S3) satellite. Our framework employs a diffusion probabilistic model, benefiting from the higher spatial resolution of the Sentinel-2 satellite during training via a new multi-modal loss formulation. This ensures consistency with the original S3 images while enhancing the spatial details. Two distinct conditional low-resolution encoders were experimented with, providing insights into their respective contributions to the diffusion process. The efficacy of the proposed model is demonstrated through extensive ablation studies and comparisons with state-of-the-art methods, using both synthetic and real S3 products. The findings indicate that our model successfully improves spatial resolution while maintaining the integrity of the spectral information, contributing to the field of remote sensing single-image super-resolution.Funding for open access charge: CRUE-Universitat Jaume

Burnout in healthcare: can job autonomy heal, or does context hold the key?
Purpose: This study investigates the relationship between job autonomy and burnout among healthcare professionals, focusing on two key contextual elements that moderate this relationship: role ambiguity and workers’ age. Design/methodology/approach: Employing an integrative approach, this research combines the Job Demands-Resources model with the lifespan developmental framework. A multilevel analysis was conducted on a sample of 1,232 hospital workers, nested within 74 units, to examine the relationships between job autonomy and burnout across teams with varying levels of aggregated role ambiguity, incorporating the factor of workers’ age. Findings: The results indicate significant interaction effects between job autonomy, age and role ambiguity in relation to burnout. Job autonomy is associated with lower levels of burnout in contexts of moderate role ambiguity. In contrast, in highly uncertain contexts, job autonomy proves more beneficial for older workers, while it appears to have negative effects on younger workers. Originality/value: This study enhances our understanding of the complex dynamics between job autonomy and burnout among healthcare professionals by utilizing a multilevel approach to examine the impact of contextual role ambiguity and workers’ age. The multilevel analysis offers original insights into the role of ambiguity, while the integration of two robust theoretical frameworks (i.e. JD-R model and Lifespan framework) provides a solid foundation for contributing to the discussion

Environmental assessment of food loss and waste prevention and reduction solutions: Navigating the complexity of integrating stakeholders' decisions
The objective of this research is to analyze the inherent complexity associated with decision-making concerning food losses and waste prevention or reduction, considering a multi-stakeholder approach and the possibility of contradictory environmental impact results derived from different solutions. This research defines six scenarios with the support of expert knowledge to assess the environmental impact of food loss and waste prevention and reduction (FLWPR) solutions that cover food valorization, redistribution and consumer behavioral change. After applying life cycle assessment consistent with the Environmental Footprint methodology, the results are fine-tuned with three groups of stakeholders' preferences: decision-makers, experts and business students. Although the perceptions of the three groups are different across several impact categories, the proposed aggregated environmental impact indicator reveals minimal changes in the prioritization of scenarios among the three group of stakeholders and shows that it is possible to choose the best option while minimizing environmental impacts from an aggregated perspective. Analyzing the detailed results, the values of the impact categories show contradictory outcomes, i.e. when a specific solution is implemented, some impact categories worsen while others improve.
This requires deciding to what extent and which aspects the decision-makers are willing to sacrifice, as these choices can influence the decision on the best option. This study includes two novelties, the dual perspective, which combines technical information and stakeholder preferences, and the proposal of an assessment method that assigns the environmental load to the quantities of product consumed, instead of assigning it to the total quantity produced through a balancing process.Funding for open access charge: CRUE-Universitat Jaume
The Potential of Online Tasks to Facilitate Autonomous Language Learning with the Use of Online Dictionaries in a Higher Education ESP Classroom
The use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) and previous studies in lexicography have shown the frustration that many students experience with the amount of information to which they are exposed to solve terminological doubts in the field of English for Specific Purposes (ESP). Yet, ICTs can prepare the ground for learning inside and outside the classroom. The incorporation of technological tools together with the use of integrated resources in Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) learning tasks provide multiple benefits in the field of ESP, as well as greater motivation and autonomy. This study aims at shedding new light on the ability of Higher Education (HE) students to (a) learn content and vocabulary with the use of online dictionaries and other online resources in a Legal English course; (b) foster motivation to perform an online task (OT); (c) develop autonomy; and (d) build new knowledge. To achieve this aim, the present study used a mixed-methods approach (i.e., qualitative and quantitative data) and was developed in two stages: (1) Creation and design of the online task (i.e., Lesson integrated into a Moodle platform); design of three questionnaires administered before and after the experiment; and implementation of the OT with university students (N=171) enrolled in a Legal English course; and (2) collection of data and analysis. The results acknowledged the success rates in terms of achievement (i.e., experimental group). The conclusions indicated that this OT had been valuable to students to learn specialised vocabulary and content, as well as to know how to use an online dictionary effectively. The OT design in this research adds value to previous studies’ existing weaknesses in dictionary training. As a result, this OT provides learners with training in the use of online dictionaries, which improves their autonomous language learning.Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, Spain (Ref: PID2021-127827NB-I00); Generalitat Valenciana –Conselleria d’Innovació, Universitats, Ciència i Societat Digital (Ref: CIAICO/2021/069); Universitat Jaume I, Spain – Pla de Promoció de la Investigació (Ref. Deep Reinforcement Learning-Based Strategy for Maximizing Returns from Renewable Energy and Energy Storage Systems in Multi-Electricity Markets
The integration of Renewable Energy Sources (RES) with Energy Storage Systems (ESS) presents
challenges and opportunities in optimizing their participation in electricity markets. This study
introduces a novel approach that leverages Deep Reinforcement Learning (RL) algorithms to
develop optimal bidding strategies for collocated RES with Battery ESS (BESS) configurations,
enabling multi-market participation in both energy and ancillary services (AS) markets. The proposed
method uses a Markov Decision Process (MDP) framework to manage BESS utilization
dynamically, considering market conditions and technical constraints. As an RL agent, the actorcritic
approach known as the Twin Delayed Deep Deterministic (TD3) Policy Gradient algorithm
is implemented. A data-driven training process facilitates model learning while minimizing the
required training dataset and time. Focused on the Irish context, the case study involves participation
in both the day-ahead energy market and reserve services for frequency droop curve
response of the DS3 Programme. Historical data from a 7 MW solar PV plant and a 1 MWh
BESS are utilized to evaluate the performance. The RL agent dynamically adapts to market dynamics
and system constraints, achieving substantial economic benefits compared to benchmark
strategies, with an additional 8,271e , 166,738e , and 11,369e , respectively
