Revealing the Optimal Processing Window In Laser Powder Bed Fusion Stainless Steel 316 Using a Defect Map
Three-dimensional printing of metal is the process in which metallic materials are fabricated layer by layer. 3D printing is used to fabricate 24 cylindrical pieces of stainless steel, each at a different combination of laser power and laser scanning speed. Depending on the laser power and scanning speed of the laser, a specimen may have a varied amount of pores in the internal structure. An X-Ray machine is used to image the interior of each specimen to reveal the size and distribution. of those pores. This data is used to gauge whether the specimen has a passable internal structure or not. A plot of the laser power and scanning speed is drawn and the specimens with passable internal structure are outlined. This outline shows a window of printing parameters that are optimal for stainless steel that is used in this study. Further analysis of the porosity content is also provided
Exploring the Validity of Adolescent Responses to a Measure of Psychological Flexibility and Inflexibility
Validating measures of psychological flexibility (PF) and psychological inflexibility (PI) has occurred in multiple adult samples, but little research has validated PF and PI measures with adolescents. This manuscript describes two studies exploring the validity of responses to the Multidimensional Psychological Flexibility Inventory (MPFI) with two samples of adolescents. The first study used exploratory factor analyses on responses to the MPFI with a sample of 16–17-year-olds (N = 249). The results yielded a reduced and simplified measurement model that consisted of two general factors: one for PF and the other for PI. These exploratory findings were further investigated with confirmatory factor analyses in the second study, with a larger sample of 14–17-year-olds (N = 503). The results from the second study generally confirmed the factor model from the first study. Findings from both studies showed that scores derived from the reduced MPFI measurement model evidenced convergent and divergent validity with a variety of mental health criterion measures. Moreover, findings from the second study showed that PF and PI scores had differential predictive power on different concurrent mental health outcomes. This discussion highlights the implications of measuring PF and PI in adolescents, considers limitations of the present studies, and recommends next steps for research
Recent Developments in Heterologous Expression of Cellulases Using the \u3ci\u3ePichia pastoris\u3c/i\u3e Expression System: A Comprehensive Literature Review
Cellulosic biomass is considered an important and sustainable source of renewable energy, which needs a complex mixture of different enzymes for its degradation. After amylase, cellulases are the second most important enzymes, gain more importance due to their broad range of applications at the industrial level, and are considered more economical and environmentally friendly; researchers have focused more on the production of cellulase with its higher expression rate and low cost. Pichia pastoris, a methylotrophic yeast strain, has a more effective and well-established system for the production of heterologous proteins, particularly for industrial enzymes. Moreover, its readily achievable high-density fermentation, high capacity for protein secretion, tractable genetic modifications, typical post-transcriptional modifications, and strong regulated promoters makes it superior to other expression systems. In this review, we address the P. pastoris expression system including protein expression platforms, plasmids, and cellular metabolism quantification as a potential candidate for heterologous protein production, particularly for cellulase enzymes
Stand Composition and Development Stage Affect Fuel Characteristics of Quaking Aspen Forests in Utah, USA
In western North America, quaking aspen stands (Populus tremuloides Michx.) have predominantly been described as low flammability, “fireproof” forests, but the specific relationship between aspen stand composition, fuel characteristics, and potential fire behavior is not fully understood. We investigated surface and canopy fuel characteristics in 80 aspen stands in Utah, U.S., that spanned gradients of tree species composition from aspen to conifer dominance and stand development from early to late stages. We quantified fuel type and load, measured fuel moisture content in representative stands across two summer seasons, and modeled flame lengths in each stand. Fuel type and load varied greatly across stands, though late development, conifer-dominated stands had significantly higher (∼2–5 times) fine dead woody and litter load and significantly lower (∼2–5 times) live understory herbaceous load compared to pure aspen stands. Fuel moisture content did not vary by stand type. Modeled flame lengths were lowest in pure aspen stands, and flame lengths increased linearly with decreasing aspen composition, suggesting that potential surface fire behavior increases as a seral aspen stand progresses through succession to conifer dominance
Using Biophilic Design to Improve Behavioral Healthcare Environments
One in five U.S. adults – more than 50 million people – experience a mental health episode every year and more than 11% of children are considered severely depressed (Mental Health America). These alarming statistics are rapidly increasing the demand for behavioral healthcare environments. Yet many of these spaces remain sterile, institutional, and lack the warmth and comfort patients need for effective healing. Research shows that as people spend more and more time indoors the lack of connection to nature in contemporary-built environments is negatively impacting human well-being, leading to increased stress, reduced focus, and slower healing. Studies suggest that individuals who maintain regular contact with nature are more likely to lead fulfilling, balanced lives. Biophilic design is a philosophy that is about reconnecting people to nature through the built environment. This project explores how implementing biophilic principles within behavioral health facilities can help reduce stress, improve mood, and promote healing. These strategies can not only improve patient outcomes, but also create humane and restorative spaces for caregivers, staff, and visitors alike

Since January, the team’s Instagram handle has shared hundreds of different posts, from post-game highlights, event and game promotion, and behind-the-scenes of the beloved players.
