    Leadership Development: Research Summary

    Get PDF
During the fall of 2023, Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) researchers conducted a statewide study to establish a baseline for public perceptions related to the awareness, understanding, and attitudes about challenges that Utah women and girls face (see Background & Methods for details). The study was created to support the work of 18 areas of focus (spokes) within the movement called A Bolder Way Forward, which is dedicated to helping more Utah girls and women thrive. One of the 18 areas of focus is leadership development, and this summary shares findings that highlight present perspectives and establishes a baseline to track progress in key areas

This idea sheet is based on a 2024 gathering in Rich County with input from 20 individuals. As Utah’s third smallest county with a wide geographic spread, this included women from across the county. Girls and women face challenges unique to the area in which they live, and the goal of this gathering was to identify those barriers and determine strategies and initiatives that local leaders and residents can implement to address them. This document includes recommendations in the following areas: home and family, education, culture and community engagement, health and wellbeing, and business and economics

    No full text
Envision Utah is a non-profit organization committed to enhancing the quality of life in Utah communities by engaging stakeholders such as local governments, citizens, and for-profit and non-profit organizations. Envision Utah generates policy recommendations and identifies strategic priorities through public outreach, collaboration, and data-driven analyses. Since 1997, Envision Utah has launched numerous initiatives that have revitalized city centers, steered urban planning, improved transportation networks, and addressed environmental and water conservation issues. In November 2021, Envision Utah conducted an online survey of 800 citizens to identify the values and priorities that are most pressing for Utahns. The sample was stratified along the lines of age, gender, and race to reflect the demographic composition of Utah. The survey asked respondents to identify their most pressing concerns; other questions asked about their quality of life, attitudes about population growth, and views of diversity and inclusion. The following report focuses on gender differences and identifies implications for policy and community engagement

Testing Resilience of Microalgae Biofilms When Exposed to Hydrothermal Liquefaction Aqueous Phase

    No full text
Hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) is a process that transforms wet biomass into a mixture of aqueous phase (AP), biochar solids, biocrude oil, and biogas. The HTL process is not economically viable on a large scale partially because the HTL-AP is a toxic waste product with no current use. The HTL-AQ contains high amounts of nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P), but also environmental toxins such as phenolic compounds. The N and P could potentially be used to grow algae if it can survive the toxins. Rotating algal biofilm reactors (RABRs) provide a method to grow algae biomass as a biofilm on plastic carpet to be more resistant to toxin

Cocoa Polyphenols Modulate the Gut Microbiome in a Site-Specific Manner in Mice

    No full text
Gut Health and the Microbiome Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most prevalent cancers in the United States; early-onset CRC is also on the rise [1]. Colitis-associated CRC is defined as CRC that arises from inflammation of the colon. A Western-type diet has been shown to exacerbate colitis. Metabolites of the gut microbiome contain anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory properties [2]. Diet is a key factor in the gut microbiome composition. Polyphenols in cocoa may restore the gut microbiome composition from pre-existing dysbiosis. More research is needed to study how dietary cocoa supplementation modulates the microbiome across several sites of the murine gut microbiome in the context of colitis

6 Fundamental Stages of Play in Daycare Design

    No full text
THE 6 STAGES OF PLAY RESEARCH The six stages of play are fundamental for children\u27s growth and development as they provide valuable opportunities for learning, socialization, and self-expression. Through play, children engage in sensory exploration, develop essential motor skills, and enhance cognitive abilities such as problem-solving and creativity. Each stage of play- from solitary play to cooperative play- builds upon the previous one, fostering social, emotional, and cognitive development in a progressive manner. Play also allows children to express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences, helping them develop communication skills, and emotional resilience. Overall, the six stages of play provide a holistic approach to child development, promoting physical, cognitive, social, and emotional well-being from infancy through early childhood
