Wake Characteristics of In-Phase and Out-Phase Array of Oscillation Airfoils
In order to solve the hydrodynamics of a school of fish using the open-source SEM solver Nek5000, an oscillating mesh is required to simulate fish oscillations and at the same time simplify the process of mesh partitioning and satisfy the limitation of nek5000 that the mesh must be quadrilateral
Development of Systems for Processing & Managing Donations for the W.A.B. Warming Center
The purpose of this project was to identify the specific needs of the William A. Burnard (WAB) Warming Center related to processing and managing donations and inventory and then propose a needs-based, evidenced-informed solution
The Effects of Including Sprouted Barley in the Diets of Feeder Lambs
Introduction Why do we care about sustainable agriculture? Increased population, and decreased available resources make production difficult to keep up with demand (Alexandratos and Bruinsma 2012). Lamb demand has increased 38% from 2012-2022 in the United States (Agriculture 2024) New technology can increase crop intensification to help production meet demand
The Effect of Medical Interpreters on Patient Outcomes Through Overcoming Linguistic Barriers
Many patients feel overwhelmed by the excess of information and emotional stress of the health problems they are experiencing. This can be especially stressful in situations where there is a language barrier. This can cause a substantial discrepancy in the healthcare that different ethnic populations receive. It can be difficult for patients to communicate what they are feeling, understand what the providers are telling them. It can also be a disadvantage to medical providers, as they might be unable to understand the experiences and needs of the patient. Medical interpreters hold the responsibility to help patients navigate these stressful times, and to help medical providers understand their patients and receive better information to treat them, and increasing the satisfaction of the patient and provider, resulting in better health outcomes
Searching for Commonalities in Secondary Structure of PRMT Targets With Python Programming
PRMT is an enzyme that: Methylates protein targets without use of a consensus sequence Has implications in embryonic development, carcinogenesis, cardiac health and many other diseases1,2,3 Has 9 isoforms. Native PRMT1 is tetrameric (figure 1)
The mechanisms underlying PRMT target recognition and binding are unknown, limiting the study of PRMT related diseases. However: • Proteomics have identified thousands of PRMT targets4 Commonalities in secondary structure may indicate a recognition element2 Prior research predicted (with JPred5) a surprising proportion (20.35%) of target methylation sites within alpha helices of proteins (figure 2)
Designing for Mental Health
More than 1 in 5 adults in America struggle with mental illness (National Institute of Mental Health). As someone who has personally struggled with mental health challenges, I can relate to the struggles of so many other people in the world. I wanted to do something about it with the tools I have
A Comprehensive Study: Comparing Machine Learning Techniques for Breast Cancer Prediction
This study conducts a comparative analysis of feature selection techniques and machine learning models to improve breast cancer risk prediction using the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Dataset. Through evaluating univariate feature selection, recursive feature elimination, and principal component analysis, alongside ten machine learning models, the research aims to identify the most effective combination for accurate diagnosis.
Performance metrics such as accuracy, precision, recall, and F1 score guide the analysis.
The findings suggest that integrating specific feature selection methods with particular machine learning algorithms significantly enhances predictive accuracy, offering insights for developing more effective breast cancer detection tools and improving patient outcomes
Optimizing Nonprofit Impact: A Comprehensive Approach to Donor Data Management
The Malouf Foundation, addresses the critical issue of sexual violence, abuse, assault, exploitation, and human trafficking with an innovative donor data management program. This new program optimizes support for survivors while educating the public, increasing donations, and igniting community engagement. Maximizes resources for survivors, showing the impact of philanthropy on social issues. Boosts donations and awareness of sexual violence and trafficking. Drives increased support for survivors
Color Dynamics: An Exploration of Language and Color
There is evidence that color terms develop in a specific order in each language. This order can be seen in the hopscotch above. First, a term for black and white (or dark and light in general), then red, yellow and green interchangeably, blue, and then brown. The colors pink, purple, orange, and grey develop around the same time and don\u27t display hierarchical trends. Finaly, a color term for light blue is developed. In languages like Spanish and Russian, their term for this color is completely separate from blue
