Contra els límits. Les reescriptures de la dictadura franquista

    No full text

When is environmental performance most valued? International evidence from the CDS market

    Get PDF
Using a sample of 516 firms with CDS data from 37 countries for the period 2010-2022, this study finds that companies with higher environmental performance, particularly in emissions reduction and product innovation, exhibit a reduction in credit risk, supporting the risk mitigation perspective. Our results also highlight the importance of considering both internal and external factors when assessing the financial impact of sustainability initiatives. Firms with initially lower environmental performance, less exposure to the environmental sector, and higher credit ratings experience a more significant reduction in credit risk as they improve their environmental performance. In addition, the CDS market places a higher value on environmental efforts for firms located in countries with lower environmental scores, credit ratings and GDP growth. Conversely, out findings support the overinvestment view for firms in sectors with high environmental risk exposure or in countries with poor climate change performance. Overall, the effect of a firm's environmental performance on credit risk is heterogeneous rather than unifor

Investigations of Crucial Factors for the Non-Covalent Functionalization of Black Phosphorus (BP) using Perylene Diimide Derivatives for the Passivation of BP Nanosheets

    Get PDF
The non-covalent functionalization of black phosphorus (BP) was studied with a scope of ten tailor-made perylene diimides (PDIs). A combination of UV/Vis-, fluorescence-, as well as Raman spectroscopy and atomic force microscopy was used to investigate the structural factors, which contribute to a pronounced PDI-BP interaction and thus support the protection of BP nanosheets against oxidative degradation. We were able to show, that water-soluble, amphiphilic PDIs with highly charged head groups can be used for the non-covalent functionalization of BP in aqueous media. Here, based on the hydrophobic effect, an efficient adsorption of the respective PDI molecules takes place and leads to the formation of a passivating film, yielding a considerable stabilization of the BP flakes under ambient conditions exceeding 30 days

    Get PDF

Effect of Ti6Al4V Alloy Surface and Porosity on Bone Osseointegration: In Vivo Pilot Study in Rabbits

    Get PDF
Unmodified Ti6Al4V can osseointegrate, but sometimes this capacity needs to be improved. This study aimed to see how much porosity improves osseointegration in a Ti6Al4V implant. Three types of Ti6Al4V cylindrical-shaped implants (13.00 mm length × 5.00 mm diameter) were evaluated: solid sandblasted acid-etched, sintered, and porous 3D-printed (681.00 μm average pore size). Fifteen 20-week-old nullipara female parasite-free New Zealand California white rabbits were used, employing the femoral condyle defect model and undertaking μ-CT analysis and pull-out testing eight weeks later. On μ-CT densitometric analysis, the solid sandblasted rod showed the highest new bone growth around the implant. Bone growth was higher inside the implants for the porous 3D-printed (54.00 ± 5.00 mm3) than for the sintered (1.00 ± 0.05 mm3) and zero for the sandblasted implants. In the pull-out test, there were no statistically significant differences in the ANOVA analysis between the sintered (900.00 N ± 310.00 N) and porous 3D-printed (700.00 N ± 220.00 N) implants. Such differences did exist between the sandblasted material (220.00 N ± 50.00 N) and the two other materials (sintered p 0.002, porous p 0.034). The porous 3D-printed and sintered implant pull-out strength were significantly better than that of the solid rod sandblasted implant. Still, there were no statistically significant differences between the first two

Effects of acupuncture versus placebo on clinical status and potential specific effects in Fibromyalgia: an umbrella review of 11 meta-analyses

    Get PDF
Background: The use of acupuncture is related to patients' expectations, and the therapeutic interaction effect remains a topic of debate in the literature. Accordingly, it is still unclear whether acupuncture can generate positive clinical effects in patients with fibromyalgia (FM). Objective: To determine the effectiveness of acupuncture versus placebo for clinical outcomes and determine the overall effect not attributed to specific effects in patients with FM. Design: Umbrella review of systematic reviews (SRs) and meta-analyses. Data sources and methods: An electronic search was performed in MEDLINE (via PubMed), Web of Science, CENTRAL, EMBASE, LILACS, CINAHL, PEDro, and SPORTDiscus databases from inception until December 2023. We selected studies with a clinical diagnosis of FM and that analyzed the effectiveness of acupuncture compared with a placebo. Pain intensity, functional status, fatigue, sleep quality, and depression symptoms were assessed. Effect sizes were calculated as the mean difference (MD) or standard mean difference (SMD). The quality of intervention reporting was assessed using the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation approach. Results: Eleven SRs with 8399 participants were included. Compared with placebo, acupuncture was associated with reductions in pain intensity (MD = -1.13 cm, 95% CI -2.09 to -0.17, p < 0.001), physical function (SMD = -0.63, 95% CI -1.67 to 0.41, p = 0.06), sleep quality (SMD = -0.25, 95% CI -1.39 to 0.88, p = 0.06), and fatigue (SMD = 0.20, 95% CI = 0.17 to 0.22, p < 0.001). The proportion not attributable to specific effects (PCE) of acupuncture was 58% for pain intensity (PCE = 0.58, 95% CI 0.45 to 0.71), 57% for physical function (PCE = 0.57, 95% CI -0.07 to 1.20), and 69% for fatigue (PCE = 0.69, 95% CI 0.18 to 1.21). Conclusion: Acupuncture showed a statistically significant difference in decreased pain intensity and fatigue in women with FM. However, the certainty of evidence was low to very low; its effects are not clinically important, and more than 50% of the overall treatment effects were not attributed to the specific effects of acupuncture

Hepatocyte cell lines: their use, scope and limitations in drug metabolism studies

    Get PDF
Gaining knowledge on the metabolism of a drug, the enzymes involved and its inhibition or induction potential is a necessary step in pharmaceutical development of new compounds. Primary human hepatocytes are considered a cellular model of reference, as they express the majority of drug-metabolis- ing enzymes, respond to enzyme inducers and are capable of generating in vitro a metabolic profile similar to what is found in vivo. However, hepato- cytes show phenotypic instability and have a restricted accessibility. Different alternatives have been explored in the past recent years to overcome the limi- tations of primary hepatocytes. These include immortalisation of adult or fetal human hepatic cells by means of transforming tumour virus genes, onco- genes, conditionally immortalised hepatocytes, and cell fusion. New strategies are currently being used to upregulate the expression of drug-metabolising enzymes in cell lines or to derive hepatocytes from progenitor cells. This paper reviews the features of liver-derived cell lines, their suitability for drug meta- bolism studies as well as the state-of-the-art of the strategies pursued in order to generate metabolically competent hepatic cell lines

    Get PDF
During the past few years, and with greater intensity since the COVID-19 crisis, the European Union has set itself the objective of boosting the development of a digital single market, directly affecting policies such as judicial cooperation in civil and commercial matters. As a result of this impulse, regulatory efforts have multiplied, as illustrated by the elaboration of Regulation (EU) No 2020/1784 on the service in the Member States of judicial and extrajudicial documents in civil or commercial matters ("service of documents") (recast version). Despite its short life and due to the effervescence of this legislative activity, it has already undergone two amendments, in order to adapt to the rapid pace of attempts to promote the incorporation of digital tools in this field. Therefore, there is a need not only to analyse the digital service mechanisms offered by Regulation (EU) No 2020/1784, but also to place this significant instrument in the broader context of the full digitisation of European judicial cooperation in Civil or Commercial matters

    No full text

Vascular endothelial growth factor immunoexpression in oral paracoccidioidomycosis

    Get PDF
Paracoccidioidomycosis (PCM) is a systemic mycosis endemic and limited to Latin America. Brazil is responsible for more than 80% of diagnosed cases in the world. Since PCM is not a notifiable disease, there are still no accurate data on its incidence in Brazil. Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is considered the main vascular endothelial growth factor expressed in the process of angiogenesis, both under physiological and pathological conditions. To date, there are not studies in the literature that evaluated the expression of VEGF in oral PCM lesions. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of oral lesions of PCM diagnosed from 1998 to 2020; to analyze the immunoexpression of VEGF in oral lesions of PCM; and to compare the VEGF immunostaining with the clinical and microscopic aspects of these lesions. Clinical data of 98 cases of patients with oral PCM were evaluated. A total of 41 selected cases were quantitatively and qualitatively analysed by immunohistochemistry for VEGF. Our results showed that oral PCM preferentially affects white males, with mean age of 50.2 years, and the gingiva and the alveolar ridge. It was not possible to correlate VEGF immunoexpression with clinical and microscopic variables. Oral PCM is a relatively uncommon pathological condition and that, in our sample, the immunoexpression of VEGF was mild and observed in a reduced number of cases
