    Get PDF

If H is a Hall subgroup of a finite group G, it was proven in 1989 using the classification of finite simple groups that all the irreducible complex characters of H extend to G if and only if there is such that and . In this note we offer a modular version of this result under more general hypotheses

New Insights in Luminescence and Quenching Mechanisms of Ag2S Nanocrystals through Temperature-Dependent Spectroscopy

    Get PDF
Bright near-infrared-emitting Ag2S nanocrystals (NCs) are used for in vivo temperature sensing relying on a reversible variation in intensity and photoluminescence lifetime within the physiological temperature range. Here, to gain insights into the luminescence and quenching mechanisms, we investigated the temperature-dependent luminescence of Ag2S NCs from 300 to 10 K. Interestingly, both emission and lifetime measurements reveal similar and strong thermal quenching from 200 to 300 K, indicating an intrinsic quenching process that limits the photoluminescence quantum yield at room temperature, even for perfectly passivated NCs. The low thermal quenching temperature, broadband emission, and multiexponential microsecond decay behavior suggest the optical transition involves strong lattice relaxation, which is consistent with the recombination of a Ag+-trapped hole with a delocalized conduction band electron. Our findings offer valuable insights for understanding the optical properties of Ag2S NCs and the thermal quenching mechanism underlying their temperature-sensing capabilities

    No full text
This article is a first legal approach to the energy communities as a new operator in the energy market. It analyzes Directives 2018/2001 and 2019/944, which introduce the 'Renewable Energy Community' and 'Citizen Energy Community' and which do not refer to any particular category. The Spanish legal system has not approved a regulation that develops this figure. However, the characteristics of energy communities relate to the cooperative principles of the ICA. That is why this study focuses on analyzing the cooperative, in particular, the consumer cooperative, as the most suitable alternative to articulate the energy community

Improvement in left atrial strain following ferric carboxymaltose in heart failure: an analysis of the Myocardial-IRON trial.

    Get PDF
Aims Iron deficiency (ID) is associated with an impaired cardiac function and remodelling in heart failure (HF). Treatment with ferric carboxymaltose (FCM) has been showed recently to improve biventricular systolic function and ventricular strain parameters in patients with HF with reduced ejection fraction and ID, but there is no evidence on the benefit of FCM on the left atrium (LA). In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of FCM on LA longitudinal strain (LA-LS). Methods and results This is a post hoc subanalysis of a double-blind, placebo-controlled, randomized clinical trial that enrolled 53 ambulatory patients with HF, left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) < 50%, and ID [Myocardial-IRON trial (NCT03398681)], treated with FCM or placebo. Cardiac magnetic resonance-featured tracking (CMR-FT) strain changes were evaluated before and 7 and 30 days after randomization using linear mixed regression analysis. The median age of the sample was 68 years (interquartile range: 64-76), and 20 (69%) were men. Mean ± standard deviation of LVEF was 39 ± 11%, and most (97%) were in stable New York Heart Association class II. At baseline, mean LA-LS was 8.9 ± 3.5%. At 30 days, and compared with placebo, LA-LS significantly improved in those allocated to FCM treatment arm (LA-LS = 12.0 ± 0.5 and 8.5 ± 0.6, respectively; Δ 3.55%, P < 0.001). Conclusions In patients with stable HF, LVEF < 50%, and ID, treatment with FCM was associated with short-term improvements in LA-LS assessed by CMR-FT. Future works should assess the potential benefit of iron repletion on LA function

    Get PDF

Describing Otherness in Captives' Autobiographies in the Late Sixteenth and Early Seventeenth Centuries

    Get PDF
The essay explores the description of Otherness in the autobiographies of three former Christian captives from the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. In these texts, authors described their experiences in the Islamic societies where they were enslaved, offering insights into Islamic geography and culture. However, these descriptions were also influenced by prevailing ideas and the authors' need to align their narratives with the hegemonic discourse, thereby perpetuating and crafting biased depictions of the Other. Understanding the motivations that guided the construction of memory in these autobiographies is crucial for a comprehensive grasp of their objectives. These objectives are closely intertwined with the authors' experiences in Islamic societies and their aspirations for reintegration into Christian ones, where they produced their writings after escaping captivity

Testing experimental designs in liquid chromatography (II): Influence of the design geometry on the prediction performance of retention models

    Get PDF
In liquid chromatography, the reliability of predictions carried out with retention models depends critically on the quality of the training experimental design. The search of the best design is more complex when gradient runs are used instead of isocratic experiments. In Part I of this work, a general methodology based on the error propagation theory was developed and validated for assessing the quality of training designs involving gradients. The treatment relates the mathematical properties of a retention model with the geometry of the training designs and their subsequent predictions. In that work, only five usual designs were considered. Part II investigates in detail the effects on predictions when the features of the training design (number and distribution of the experiments, initial and final modifier content, gradient slope(s), and location of gradient nodes and pulses) are varied systematically. Several groups of related designs containing one or more isocratic steps, linear or multi-linear gradients, or mixed isocratic/gradient runs, among others (in total 38 designs) were evaluated. Box and whiskers and triple plots of expected relative uncertainties were used to evidence the differences in prediction performance. The purpose was to give recommendations to construct designs with good prediction performance. The best designs sample (considering all runs) concentrations as diverse as possible, at any gradient time
