Competencies development: The role of organizational commitment and the perception of employability
The main objective of this study was to analyze the mediating effect of perceived employability (internal and external) and the organizational commitment in the relationship between the organizational practices of competencies development (OPCD) and the turnover intentions. The sample consists of 2099 participants, all of them working in organizations based in Portuguese territory. The existence of a significant and negative effect of the OPCD, of perceived internal employability and the organizational commitment in the turnover intentions, has been proven. There was also a significant and positive effect of perceived external employability on turnover intentions. Finally, the serial mediating effect of perceived employability and organizational commitment in the relationship between OPCD and turnover intentions was proven.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Health service accessibility, mental health, and changes in behavior during the COVID-19 pandemic: A qualitative study of older adults
The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the access of older adults to health services. The two objectives of this study are understanding the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on older adults’ access to health services and exploring how health service accessibility during the pandemic influenced older adults’ mental health and self-reported changes in behavior. This study included 346 older adults. Content analysis produced five themes: (1) decreased physical accessibility to health care providers (78%); (2) increased use of online health services and other virtual health care (69%); (3) growth in the online prescription of medication (67%); (4) difficulty obtaining information and accessing non-communicable disease and mental health indicators (65%); and (5) postponement of medical specialist consultations (51%). Regarding mental health, three themes emerged: (1) increased symptoms of anxiety, distress, and depression (89%); (2) the experience of traumatic situations (61%); and (3) the augmented use of alcohol or drugs (56%). Finally, the following changes in behavior were indicated: (1) frustrated behavior (92%); (2) emotional explosions (79%); and (3) changes in sleeping and eating behaviors (43%). Access to health services may have influenced the mental health and behavior of older adults, hence interventions in a pandemic must address their interactions with health services, their needs, and their well-being.
The main purpose of this research was to study two new career trends, Proteana
and Boundaryless, testing their relationship with organization loyalty and using career
satisfaction as a moderating variable. A total of 283 participants answered an online
questionnaire that contained the measurement scales of Protean Career, Boundaryless
Career, Career Satisfaction and Organizational Commitment.
The results showed that career satisfaction is important for affective commitment
in individuals with low protean tendency. With a high Boundaryless career orientation,
career satisfaction has an impact on calculating commitment.
This study allowed us to explore two emerging career styles in organizations
today, relating them to more traditionally studied constructs such as Organizational
Commitment and Career Satisfaction. This research proves to be useful in managing
careers within an organization, assisting a Human Resources department to better
understand the current and future trends in the careers of its employees
a infância.
No
The ability to recognize emotions starts early during childhood. However, due
to the pandemic period of COVID-19, the use of protective facial masks may have
compromised this ability in children deprived of a correct facial exposure since they
were 3 years old.
The main objective of the present study is to understand the impact that facial
masks have on the perception of emotions in 5-year-old children. The sample is
composed of 30 children (15 girls and 15 boys) attending pre- school, with an
adequate cognitive- intellectual development. A set of 120 images of human faces
expressing six different emotions (happy, sad, fear, anger, disgust or no
emotion/neutral) was used. Half with and half without masks of surgical type. The
most affected emotions and the more easily confounded, as well as the response time,
were analyzed.
The results showed a greater impact of the facial masks in the emotions of
disgust, sadness, or in the neutral emotion. Regarding the children response time, it
was noticed that there was no significant impact. However, time showed to differ
depending on the emotion, having sadness a higher impact.
This study confirms that facial masks impair the perception of emotions in
young children
Critical thinking in information literacy pedagogical strategies: New dynamics for higher education throughout librarians’ vision
This work explores the articulation of Information Literacy and CriticalThinking, throughout a preliminary study on the pedagogical strategies usedby academic librarians in lecturing information literacy courses. A theoreticalreflection is presented about students’ skills in Information Literacy, enhancedby Critical Thinking, to acquire the ability to move autonomously in printedand digital information environments, based on their reflective thinking, totransform information into new knowledge. The study aims to compareinformation literacy pedagogical practices in different subject areas. As such, psychology, education, and health sciences were the ecosystems in which thestrategies were explored and applied to analyze common approaches, andultimately detect and share good practices for pedagogical improvements. Thepresent work results from a qualitative study, based on the interviewsregarding the vision of three academic librarians, framed by seven majorparameters: metacognition, reflection, analysis, evaluation, inference, anduse, as well as dispositions, applied to information management. The objectivewas to evaluate what kind of strategies were adopted by each librarian and ifthe pedagogical practices are effective in fulfilling the learning objectives.Overall, all three librarians agreed that libraries have an important role inpromoting critical thinking in higher education students.

FOODLIT-trial: protocol of a randomised controlled digital intervention to promote food literacy and sustainability Behaviours in Adults Using the Health Action Process Approach and the behaviour change techniques taxonomy during the COVID-19 pandemic
Dietary quality and sustainability are central matters to the international community, emphasised by the burden of the COVID-19 pandemic. To promote healthier and more sustainable
food-related practices, the protocol of a web-based intervention to enhance adults’ food literacy is
presented. The FOODLIT-Trial is a two-arm, parallel, experimental, and single-blinded randomised
controlled trial delivered over 11 weeks. Based on the Food Literacy Wheel framework and supported
by the Health Action Process Approach (HAPA) and the Behaviour Change Techniques Taxonomy,
weekly content with customised behaviour change techniques (experimental group) is hypothesised to be more effective to promote food behaviour change when compared to a single-time and
non-customised delivery of food-related international guidelines, with no theoretically informed
approaches (comparison group). Primary outcome is food literacy, including food-related knowledge,
skills, and behaviours, assessed with the FOODLIT-Tool; a secondary outcome includes psychological mechanisms that efficaciously predict change in participants’ food literacy, measured with
HAPA-driven items. Enlisted through online sources, participants will be assessed across five time
points (baseline, post-intervention, and 3-, 6-, and 9-month follow-ups, i.e., T0–T4). A randomisation
check will be conducted, analyses will follow an intention-to-treat approach, and linear two-level
models within- (T0–T4) and between-level (nested in participants) will be computed, together with a
longitudinal mediation analysis. If effective, the FOODLIT-Trial will provide for a multidimensional
and cost-effective intervention to enable healthier and more sustainable food practices over the
long term.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia - FCTinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
UN Ocean Conference needs transparent and science-based leadership on ocean conservation
The United Nations Ocean conference convened in June 2022. Heads of state, businesses, and civil society organizations met in Lisbon to discuss how to scale up ocean action to achieve SDG 14 goals. In the face of the existential challenges of the climate emergency and species extinction crisis, bold and decisive action on ocean conservation through a shift in the protection paradigm is needed now. Recognizing existing barriers (e.g., political, organizational, social, economic) that operate at various scales (e.g., international, regional and national) and that are precluding achieving a healthy ocean is key and has to be addressed with strong leadership and sound commitments. A roadmap with clear steps and achievements including metrics assessing protection levels, stages of establishment, management effectiveness and equity is now needed to guarantee the success of marine conservation goals. Portugal can and should help lead the way by adopting such a roadmap and approach, but post-2020 decisions need to incorporate, beyond area goals, both the quality and effectiveness of ocean protection through metrics and standards such as those provided by the MPA Guide, Green List and Blue Parks.
políticas e práticas prisionais, ressaltando a necessidade do sistema prisional brasileiro
durante o cumprimento da pena.ABSTRACT: The purpose of this study was to describe incarcerated women´s perceptions about the role
that prison visits play during imprisonment. Fifteen incarcerated Brasilian women were
interviewed. Using a thematic analysis procedure, their answers were organized in different
areas. We reflect on the importance of visits to avoid desocialization along with a prison
sentence, as well as a motivating element for good behavior in prison. Women perceive visits
as important because they satisfy their need for affection, as well provides the opportunity to
hear news of their family and friends, expressing uneasiness for being separated from family.
Likewise, we review perceived obstacles to receiving visits in prison and the effects that
suspended visits have on women and their families. Finally, we reflect on the contributions
of our results to professional policies and practices, highlighting the need that the Brazilian
prison system has to value visits to maintain family ties during imprisonment.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Portuguese Version of the Ageing Attitudes Questionnaire (AAQ): Validation of the Psychometric Properties
The Ageing Attitudes Questionnaire—AAQ was validated for the Portuguese population
to understand the importance of attitudes towards old age and their impact on the subjective wellbeing of older adults. A sample of 400 subjects (from 18 to 93 years) answered a socio-demographic
questionnaire, and the AAQ, composed of three subscales (psychosocial losses, physical change, and
psychological growth). The CFA confirmed the tri-factorial structure with very good adjustment
of the model to the data, with the Cronbach alpha of the total scale scoring 0.84 and ranging from
0.65 to 0.77 for each factor. A total of nine items were omitted for poor factor loadings (<0.50),
namely in factor 1 items 9-17-20, in factor 2 items 7 and 24 and, finally, in factor 3 we omitted items
4-18-19-21. Notwithstanding, three items below the criteria were maintained, as they conceptually
fit into the factor. Of the final 15 AAQ items, 5 belong to the Psychosocial Loss Factor, 6 to Physical
Change Factor, and 4 to Psychosocial Growth Factor. This tree factor model explained 50.1% of the
total variance. In conclusion, this study supports that AAQ has acceptable validity, confirming the
composite reliability and the discriminant validity, but not the convergent validity. Through multigroup analysis, the invariance of the scale was confirmed. This validation is of pivotal importance
once it allows measuring attitudes towards ageing in the Portuguese population, thus facilitating the
prevention of ageism and the promotion of well-being across the lifespan.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
There is an increasing need to shape positive work environments that promote the affective well-being of employees. However, with the recent escalation of market competitiveness, it is also relevant to create organizational dynamics that ensure not only the achievement of goals, but also the performance of personal initiative and proactive behavior, and the assumption of responsibilities. In this sense, the main objective of the present study was to study to what extent accountability is associated with affective well-being through contextual performance and how the error management culture, as a moderating resource, may affect the mediation described above. An online survey was applied and answered by 166 participants. The results showed that accountability is positively and significantly associated with affective well-being, with contextual performance being a partial mediator of this relationship when levels of error management culture are high. It was found that when levels of accountability and error management culture were high, contextual performance was significantly higher compared to individuals with high levels of accountability and in organizations with low levels of error management culture. These results are relevant for organizations seeking to implement development and transformation programs to increase employee accountability and affective well-being
