Investigación y enseño en diseño e música
Convergences and divergences in the teaching and practice of design and music based on the 2030 Agenda and the New European Bauhaus axes.
As in previous editions, this volume includes the short papers approved and presented at EIMAD'24 - 9th International Research Meeting in Music, Arts and Design, which took place on 27 and 28 June 2024. The School of Applied Arts of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco is organising another edition of EIMAD - International Research Meeting.
The EIMAD'24 event is based on two fundamental pillars. The first pillar is the 2030 Agenda, established by the United Nations Organisation, which aims to promote sustainable, regenerative and inclusive development on a global scale by 2030. The second pillar is the New European Bauhaus, a creative and interdisciplinary initiative promoted by the European Commission. This initiative creates a collaborative space where designers, architects, artists, scientists, engineers, digital experts and students can come together to build bridges between science, technology, art and culture. In addition, New
European Bauhaus emphasises sustainability, inclusion and aesthetics to bring the European Green Deal closer to the people. In the first section we find articles that cross the themes of the 2030 Agenda, such as the challenges for better, more inclusive and more accessible education. We also find themes such as culture, economy and creativity, as well as the NEB axes. From convergences between typography and printed newspapers, the contribution of illustration to book cover design, brand design and handicrafts, to aesthetics and virtual reality performance, systems thinking in design teaching and proposals for more participatory and playful methodologies in design teaching. Along the same lines, the second part unfolds in studies on the teaching and practice of music based on the regional context, the study of the repertoire used in official music schools of traditional instruments, images of music, up to fundamental art, proposals for more sustainable or exploratory approaches in artistic fields such as clay and jewellery

In this article, we seek to study the relationship between illustration and design in editorial graphic design projects for book covers. The study begins with some notes on the evolution of the book cover. Next, there is a reflection on the articulation of the language of illustration and graphic design in the design of book covers. To this end, the function of the book cover and the framing of the cover as a graphic-editorial project are addressed. The dialectic between illustration and message is also explored.
The discussion of ideas takes place in several stages and using samples from different literary contexts. At the same time, we seek to understand the relationship between the illustrator and the designer in the creation of book covers. This relationship between different languages of graphic design and illustration – and, on another level, the author of the text – will be the object of analysis taking into account the composition of the ele ments, the articulation between them all and the mutual influence they establish between them

Institutionalization of Portuguese social service (Estado Novo) and figure Mª Leonor Sampaio
Abstract: The historical-descriptive and hermeneutic research addresses the institutionalization of social service training in Portugal, with the emergence of schools and professionals in the social area, during the Estado Novo period (1928 to 1974), where we include Mª Leonor Sampaio (1915-96), with his social and parliamentary interventions in state and religious bodies. We established the following objectives: understand the institutionalization and evolution of social work until 1974; analyze Mª Leonor’s parliamentary interventions; know their performance in the various institutions included in the corporatist State (statist, Catholic, conservative nature). We propose 2 points of analysis: institutionalization and consolidation of social service training (creation of schools, meaning of the profession); social and parliamentary action on social policy, protection of minors, social assistance measures for working and vulnerable families, the role of working women, etc. In the reconstruction of this historical time, Mª Leonor’s contributions are positive in favor of the social service profession, such as social work.FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (Portugal) e

Improving motor competence of children: the “Super Quinas” intervention program in portuguese primary schools
The objective of this study was to describe the effects of an extra hour of a structured motor program on the motor
competence (MC) of children 6–10 years old.. Design: The need for movement interventions to enhance MC among school-aged
children has gained vital importance in the last years, given the negative secular trends reported. Hence, the Portuguese Football
Federation organized an intervention program on MC to be implemented on the extracurricular time of the Portuguese primary
schools: the Super Quinas program. Methods: Thirty-nine schools from all of Portugal were assigned to intervention and control
condition, with a total of 1034 children (6–10 y old) completing all the program (77.7%). The Super Quinas intervention
comprised of 1 hour of activity per week, led by a physical educator teacher during extracurricular activities for 12 wees. MC was
assessed using the Motor Competence Assessment (MCA) before and at the end of the program (January and April 2023).
Normative results of the MCA were used to compare changes between pre and posttest according to experimental or control
condition. Results: Results showed a general improvement (P ≤ .001) for all subscales (Locomotor, Manipulative, Stability) and
total MCA. More importantly, the experimental group showed significant and positive differences, when compared with the
control group, in the Stability (P = .007), Manipulative (P = .015), and total MCA results (P = .018) after controlling for gender,
age, and baseline effect. Conclusions: The Super Quinas intervention program proved that adding 1 hour of structured movement
program to the regular primary school schedule can lead to greater development of MC in school-age children
Material flow control in make-to-stock production systems: an assessment of order generation, order release and production authorization by simulation
Material Flow Control (MFC) is a key element of production planning and control. The literature typically categorizes different MFC methods according to how material flow control is realized. This distinction overlooks that MFC decisions can be subdivided into three independent tasks that are executed as orders progress through the system: (i) order generation, (ii) order release, and (iii) production authorization. MFC methods are typically designed for only one of these three tasks, which leaves a large part of the order flow uncontrolled. This study therefore not only provides a new categorization of MFC methods, but also argues for the simultaneous application (or the combining) of three different MFC methods for order generation, order release, and production authorization. To support this argument, the performance effects of an integrated MFC approach are evaluated. Findings show that each individual MFC method impacts different performance metrics, which can be explained by the presence of a hierarchy of workloads, where each workload level constrains the succeeding hierarchical level. That is, each MFC method has a main impact on a different workload. This has important implications for the design of MFC methods and extends recent literature on hierarchical production planning and control systems.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Demand driven material requirements planning: using the buffer status to schedule replenishment orders
Demand Driven Material Requirements Planning argues that production re-plenishment orders should be scheduled on the shop floor according to the buffers’ on-hand inventory. However, the actual performance impact of this remains largely unknown. Using discrete event simulation, this study com-pares scheduling based on the on-hand inventory, with scheduling based on the inventory net flow position. Results of our study show that scheduling based on the former performs best, particularly when multiple production orders are simultaneously generated and progress independently on the shop floor. Our finds give hints that are important to both, industrialThis work has been supported by FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the R&D Unit Project Scope UIDB/00319/2020.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Judo is an Olympic combat sport that is divided into male and female weight categories. Each weight category implies
significant differences in technical and strategic dimensions, as well as physiological, performance, and body composition among com-
petitors. This study aimed to determine the technical actions predominance used by judokas in the European Judo Championship 2021.
We observed 398 judo combats, in the various weight categories male and female, disputed in the European Judo Championship 2021.
It was used an observation system in accordance with the classification of judo techniques proposed by Kodokan. An observation system
was used according to the Kodokan classification of judo techniques. In Nage-Waza combat, there was a predominance leg technique
(Ashi-Waza), arm technique (Te-Waza), hip technique (Koshi-Waza), side sacrifice techniques (Yoko-Sutemi-Waza) and frontal sacri-
fice techniques (Ma-Sutemi-Waza). When we focused our observation on the effectiveness of applied techniques, we observed more
techniques scored with Ippon than Wazari. We can also observe that Shido was the significantly more recurrent punishment during
male combats.
This work was supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), I.P., project number
