    No full text
Abstract: With this book we want to emphasize the importance of safety when working on dairy and beef cattle farms. Cattle are large, heavy and physically powerful animals. They can cause serious injury to humans. Throughout the text, various cattle restraint methods are described with drawings and paintings. Rope restraint techniques are presented to immobilize and keep the animal upright (restraint of the head, forelimbs and hind limbs) and techniques for dropping and immobilizing cattle on the ground. The most sensitive points on the cattle's head and body are also shown. The knowledge of these sensitive points and all the restraint equipment will be an advantage for the operator, making easier the daily cattle handling. The correct application of the cattle restraint methods described in this book will allow producers and technicians to act with greater individual safety during the various management operations that take place on a cattle farm. It’s a priority to guarantee the protection of the farmers, technician, his helpers and the animals.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Poda em verde na formação da cerejeira

    No full text
Relations between river sediments and dissolved matter

    No full text
A typical but actually unsolved problem is relating dissolved ions in water and the chemical composition of the corresponding sediments. Our first assumption is that botH ion concentrations and the sediments are compositional in nature. Data from the 2022 and 2023 campaigns in the Trimpancho river (Mining System) (Huelva, Spain) are used to illustrate the possibilities and the challenges of such an analysis. The data consists of 23 sampling points recording both 14 dissolved ions (mg/L) and 10 elements (mg/kg) from the sediment. A first analysis of association using the proportionality index of parts (PIP) reveals that binary relations are weak, while the Aitchison-distance correlation indicates that there is some moderate correlation between dissolved ions and sediments. The relation was also examined using compositional canonical correlation. A surprising result was that up to three canonical functions exhibited very high correlations. A deeper evaluation suggested that these high correlations are due to overparametrization given the small sample size. Finally, after simplification of the canonical correlation model, some balances within dissolved ions and within sediments evidenced moderate correlations in accordance with the previous results. Results show that the main relations involve several elements and single element relations are irrelevant. For instance, the ion balance of Ca, Cu, Fe, Zn over Mg, Mn, Ni has a 0.7 Pearson correlation with the sediment balance Al, Mn over Cr

    Get PDF
Population aging is a prominent phenomenon worldwide. The increase in physical inactivity and co-morbid diseases poses a major challenge to current community health policies. Physical activity guidelines recommended for older people have not been met by this population group. For this reason, a new model, physical literacy, is being innovated and has gained global attention and has emerged as an effective and innovative active aging strategy to improve physical activity participation of this vulnerable group. However, the evidence on physical literacy in the older adult so far is brief and diffuse. Therefore, the aim was to conduct a scoping review protocol to identify and map physical literacy in older people. This scoping review protocol was based on the Joanna Briggs Institute Method. The search will be performed on Embase, IBSS ProQuest, Medline OVID, PsycINFO Ebsco, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Scopus, SPORTDiscus, Social Services Abstracts ProQuest, Sociological Abstracts ProQuest, Web of Science ISI, Wiley Online Library, Cochrane Library, and ERIC Ebsco databases. All types of studies published since 2001 in English, Spanish, and Portuguese examining physical literacy over the lifespan of older adults were included. Two independent reviewers will organize and select studies according to the objectives and questions of the scoping review. The selected publications will be organized and summarized using a checklist proposed by the PRISMA- ScR. Qualitative data analysis (thematic analysis) will be performed to identify meanings and patterns to answer the research question. The final scoping review will present the main evidence available, key concepts/definitions, research conducted, and knowledge gaps related to physical literacy in older adults, leading to strategies to improve the community health of this population, as well as health literacy.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    No full text
West Nile virus (WNV) is an emergent zoonotic pathogen spread worldwide. This flavivirus is endemically maintained in a life cycle with birds acting as reservoirs, Culex mosquitoes as the main vectors, and humans and horses as accidental dead-end hosts. 1 The potential impact of WNV infection on wildlife populations can be severe, especially in threatened or endangered species. 2 This work might be useful as a starting point for a surveillance program to better assess the real distribution of the WNV in Portuguese vultures. Early virus detection is important for both bird conservation and public health. This work was supported by the projects UIDB/00772/2020 (doi:10.54499/UIDB/00772/2020) funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
