Regional innovation systems and entrepreneurial ecosystems : their value added to rethinking regional development policies
Advances on the understanding the innovation process and phenomenon, principally coming from the regional innovation systems approach and from the theorization around the concept of entrepreneurial ecosystems, have given an impulse to entrepreneurship promotion. The aim of this paper is two-fold. On the one hand, the first objective is to contextualize and clarify the concepts of regional innovation systems and entrepreneurial ecosystems that have been gaining a growing importance in terms of regional policy. It will also address their differences and complementarities, proposing an analytical filter to enhance their understanding, both theoretically and operationally. The second objective is to formulate a set of recommendations about the role both concepts bring to local and regional development strategies, opening the way for a set of public policy interventions.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Differences in the Development of Motor Skills in Portuguese Children Aged 12 Months after 3 Years of COVID-19 Confinement
(1) Background: The objective of the study was to verify the effects of COVID-19 confinement on motor skills through a longitudinal study in Portuguese children who were one year old at the beginning of the pandemic. (2) Methods: The sample consisted of 88 children of both sexes, in the pre-COVID-19 assessment, they were 13.31 ± 2.4 months old and in the post-COVID-19 assessment, the same children were already 49.31 ± 2.5 months old. Motor skills were assessed using the PDMS-2 scales. For the statistical analysis, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test was used to test normality, and the Wilcoxon test was used to compare the results of the two assessments in the same sample. (3) Results:There were statistically significant differences in all motor skills assessed, with children presenting, on average, worse results in all global motor skills in the post-COVID-19 assessment, as opposed to fine motor skills, showing better results in the post-COVID-19 assessment. (4) Conclusions: These results show the negative impact of the pandemic on children evaluated with a special emphasis on global motor skills, with the majority demonstrating values considered below average for their age, noting that the pandemic protocols may have had serious consequences on children’s motor development, warning professionals who deal daily with children in these age groups about the importance of stimulating global motor skills.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Characterisation of low molecular weight compounds of strawberry tree (Arbutus unedo L.) fruit spirit aged with oak wood
Authors would like to extend their gratitude to the dedicated tasters of the INIAV sensory panel for their consistent participation and accessibility. The authors thank Mendes & Mendes, LDA distillery for the Arbutus unedo distillate supplied. There is a trend towards the commercialisation of strawberry tree fruit spirit (AUS) with wood ageing, motivated by its favourable sensory characteristics. Additionally, further studies are necessary to elucidate the optimal conditions regarding ageing time and toasting level. This study evaluated the changes in colour and low molecular weight compounds (LMWC) of AUS aged for three and six months using oak wood (Quercus robur L.) with light, medium and medium plus toasting levels. For this purpose, phenolic acids (gallic, ellagic, ferulic and syringic acids), phenolic aldehydes (vanillin, syringaldehyde, coniferaldehyde and sinapaldehyde) and furanic aldehydes (furfural, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural and 5-methylfurfural) were quantified using the HPLC method. Chromatic characteristics, colour sensory analysis and total polyphenol index were also analysed. Fourier transform near-infrared spectroscopy (FT-NIR) was used to discriminate between samples. The results emphasized the favourable effect of oak wood contact on enhancing the colour and enriching AUS with low molecular weight compounds (LMWC). AUS aged in medium toasted wood exhibits high levels of total phenolic index, 5-hydroxymethylfurfural, furfural, coniferaldehyde, sinapaldehyde, sum LMWC and chromatic characteristics b* and C. Concentrations of syringaldehyde, ellagic acid, vanillin and syringic acid and a lighter colour (a* chromaticity coordinates) are higher in AUS aged with slightly more toasted wood. Nearly all analysed parameters showed an increase with ageing time. The FT-NIR technique allowed for the differentiation of aged AUS, focusing more on ageing time than on toasting level. This work was supported by Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT, Portugal) for their financial support through national funds FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC) to CERNAS-IPCB, UIDB/00681/2020 (DOI: 10.54499/UIDP/00681/2020); CEF, UIDB/00239/2020 (DOI: 10.54499/UIDB/00239/2020) and TERRA (DOI: 10.54499/LA/P/0092/2020); MED, UIDB/05183/2020.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

das radiodermites I e II (37,3% e 38,7% respetivamente). No total da amostra pode se comprovar que 28 doentes não apresentaram sintomas, ou seja 18,6%. O HF
apresenta menos ESA e torna-se mais vantajosoAbstract: The theme of this study is related to Radiotherapy treatment in breast cancer, in
particular, the relationship between side effects and the fractionations, conventional
and hypofractionation (HF).
The main objective of this research is:
To understand whether the type of fractionation selected, conventional
fractionation (FC) or HF, will influence the side effects that arise and its severity.
More specifically, to analyze the acute side effects present at the end of radiotherapy
treatments and to describe good practices in order to reduce its occurrence.
The study was based on data collection through research on all the symptoms
described in the final treatment consultation of breast patients treated with external
radiotherapy at the Radioncology Clinic in Évora and registered in the Journal
(ARIA®). A sample of 150 patients was obtained and the results show that, in
general terms, patients treated with HF schemes have fewer acute side effects, 41%,
compared to those treated with FC, 59%, and also effects on earlier stages.
In conclusion, CF is associated with a higher frequency of ESA compared to HF,
with the exception of grade I radiodermatitis. Erythema (54%) was the most
detected, followed by radiodermatitis I and II (37.3% and 38.7% respectively). In
the total sample, it can be seen that 28 patients did not present symptoms, that is,
18.6%. HF has less ESA and becomes more advantageousinfo:eu-repo/semantics/draf
The learning communities project in school transformation with the contributions of social education
The 'Learning Community' (LC) is considered a project/strategy for the sociocultural transformation of the school and the surrounding community environment, with its organizational model aiming to prevent school and coexistence problems, provide answers and promote measures to improve student performance and performance, develop learning with the involvement of interactive groups (families, associations, social entities, volunteers and socio-educational partners of the school, etc.), articulated with the municipal education policy. LC implementation is only possible with the contribution of social education and based on dialogical learning based on the learning theories of Vygotsky, Bruner, Appel, Habermas, P. Freire and critical pedagogy. LC favours ‘successful’ activities and participation of interactive groups and, simultaneously, the inclusion and sustainable development of the local community. We start from a hermeneutic analysis of literature/bibliography from basic to thematic, with conceptual clarification and having the following objectives:
Understanding LC as a school transformation project and local/community development, integral and integrative that implies the dialogical participation of participants; Identify its methodological aspects in the LC model; Know LC in its integral and systemic vision of education and learning in satisfying educational needs, sharing knowledge and experiences for a new culture in tune with the formation of citizens; Determine the role of social education in socio-educational intervention within LCs; Reflect LC's contributions to the integration of school and non-school education to improve learning practices and overcome school failure and dropout. Despite the good results obtained by LC, there are some criticisms made of it, but the benefit of communication dialogue as a pillar of its model, the interaction and participation of the various participants, greater attention to the 'Teacher Student' and 'Teacher-Student' relationships must be recognized. School-Family-Community', improving coexistence and contributions to reducing conflicts and school failure.Resumo: A 'Comunidade de Aprendizagem' (LC) é considerada um projeto/estratégia de desenvolvimento sociocultural transformação da escola e do ambiente comunitário envolvente, com o seu modelo organizacional visando prevenir problemas escolares e de convivência, dar respostas e promover medidas para melhorar desempenho e desempenho, desenvolver a aprendizagem com o envolvimento de grupos interativos (famílias, associações, entidades sociais, voluntários e parceiros socioeducativos da escola, etc.), articulados com a política municipal de educação. A implementação da LC só é possível com a contribuição da educação social e baseado na aprendizagem dialógica baseada nas teorias de aprendizagem de Vygotsky, Bruner, Appel, Habermas, P. Freire e pedagogia crítica. LC favorece atividades ‘de sucesso’ e participação de grupos interativos e, simultaneamente, a inclusão e o desenvolvimento sustentável da comunidade local. Partimos de uma análise hermenêutica literatura/bibliografia do básico ao temático, com esclarecimento conceitual e tendo os seguintes objetivos: Compreender a LC como um projeto de transformação escolar e de desenvolvimento local/comunitário, integral e integrativo isso implica a participação dialógica dos participantes; Identificar os seus aspectos metodológicos no modelo LC;
Remembering the mentor of the Child Protection Law in Portugal on the centenary of his death: Father António d’Oliveira (1867-1923)
On the centenary of the death of Father António d’Oliveira (1867-1923), we analyze his work and actions in favour of the protection and re-education of juvenile delinquents, especially those interned at the Lisbon House of Correction. He drafted an innovative intervention regulation in this establishment (1901) and was the mentor of the Child Protection Law (1911), which projected the country into the wake of nations concerned with childhood. It is a historical-documentary study using hermeneutic analysis of sources (primary, secondary) and legislation, with the following objectives: analyze his work in the area of child protection; interpret the Child Protection Law in light of the time; understand the re-educational intervention (God, Country, Work) with hospitalized minors. We intend to remember historiographically that this figure is dedicated to the problem of childhood and juvenile delinquency and to raising public awareness of serious social issues, which contributed to the History of (Social) Education.CeiED da Universidade Lusófona de Lisboa e FC
Bridging the gap between training and competition in elite rink hockey : a pilot study
Background: Monitoring training load and competition load is crucial for evaluating and improving athlete performance.
This study proposes an applied approach to characterize and classify the training task specificity in relation to competition
in a top-level rink hockey team, considering external and internal load from training tasks and competition.
Hypothesis: Training tasks and game demands have significant dose-response differences, and exercises can be classified
successfully based on their physiological and biomechanical demands.
Study Design: Cross-sectional study.
Level of Evidence: Level 5.
Methods: Ten elite-level male rink hockey players participated in this study. Players were monitored on 6 different task
categories during 8 training sessions and 2 official games. A linear mixed model with random intercepts was used to
compare training tasks and competition load, accounting for individual repeated measures. A 2-step cluster analysis was
performed to classify the training tasks and games based on physiological and biomechanical load, employing log-likelihood
as the distance measure and Schwartz’s Bayesian criterion.
Results: Average heartrate , maximum heartrate, and high-speed skating (18.1-30 km/h) were the best physiological load
predictors, while the most effective biomechanical load predictors were impacts [8-10] g(n), decelerations [-10 to -3]m/s²(n),
and accelerations [3-10]m/s²(n). Different physiological and biomechanical responses were verified between training tasks
and match demands. A 4-quadrant efforts assessment for each task category revealed that training tasks used by the team in
the analysis presented lower biomechanical and physiological load demands than competition.
Conclusion: Training tasks failed to adequately replicate the specific demands of competition, especially regarding high
mechanical stress, such as the absence of high-intensity impacts and decelerations.
Clinical Relevance: This method of classification of training tasks may allow coaches to understand further the specificity
and contribution of each task to competition demands, consequently improving the capacity of load management and the
preparedness and readiness of players for competition
Plant-based beverages: Consumption habits, perception and knowledge on a sample of Portuguese citizens
Plant-based beverages (PBB) consumption has increased significantly worldwide due to an interest in vegetarian/vegan diets, taste preferences, health and ethical and environmental issues. Therefore, this study intends to investigate consumption habits, consumer preferences and consumers’ level of knowledge about PBB. In this study, a voluntary, anonymous questionnaire survey was applied to a sample of participants from Portugal. The sample was recruited by convenience, and therefore, the distribution among the groups was not even. Data analysis involved different statistical techniques: basic statistics, chi-square tests, factor analysis, cluster analysis and tree classification analysis. The results indicated that the most consumed PBB were almond, soy and oat beverages. The majority of consumers chose these beverages for nutritional and health reasons, while a smaller number consumed them as part of a vegetarian or vegan diet. The main motivations for consuming PBB are mainly associated with sustainability and health benefits. The results regarding the respondents’ knowledge about PBB revealed that a health-related profession was the most
significant predictor. These results allowed us to conclude that the factors of nutrition, health, ethics and practice of a vegetarian/vegan diet influence the consumption of PBB. It was also concluded that being in a healthcare profession, along with age and professional status within this field, were significant factors influencing the level of knowledge about PBB.CEF: UIDB/00239/2020 (DOI: 10.54499/UIDB/00239/2020) and TERRA (DOI:10.54499/LA/P/0092/2020);to CIMO (UIDB/00690/2020 and UIDP/00690/2020) and SusTEC (LA/P/0007/2021); to CICS-UBI projects UIDB/00709/2020 and UIDP/00709/2020 https://doi.org/10.54499/UIDB/00709/2020), financed by national funds through the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology/MCTES.
