A revisit of plant food waste along food supply chains: Impacts and perspectives
No full textMore than one billion tons of the food produced in the world ends up being wasted every year, accounting for about one-third of the food produced globally. For this reason, the problem of food waste management has been the focus of the different actors intervening in the food supply chains, who recognize that food waste has not only environmental but also economic and social impacts. This review focuses on foods of plant origin wasted at different stages of their life, namely primary production, transformation/processing, transportation, sales, catering and the domestic level. It addresses the subject from multiple angles, considering the environmental, economic and social perspectives. The review was based on a search carried out within scientific databases, for example, ScienceDirect, Scopus and the Web of Science. The results highlighted that in the generation and management of food waste from plant origin, there is a clear difference between developed and developing countries, with these last showing higher losses in production, principally the transportation and storage of the foods. Contrarily, in developed countries, excess food produced and not consumed is the strongest contributor to food waste. Valorization of agricultural waste and industrial residues for application into animal feed or agricultural fertilizers, or through the recovery of valuable compounds for industrial purposes, are some of the ways to deal with food waste while generating additional economic value and reducing environmental impact. However, there is still a need to modify processes and behaviors to reduce food waste and improve the sustainability of supply chains. Therefore, it is crucial to conduct research to identify and report food waste so that stakeholders can contribute positively to solving this problem

No full textRelatório de Estágio apresentado à Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, para cumprimento dos requisitos necessários à obtenção do grau de Mestre em Design de Interiores e Mobiliário.Este documento consiste no relatório de estágio curricular, desenvolvido no âmbito da unidade curricular de estágio, do 2º ano do Mestrado de Design de Interiores e Mobiliário, da Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas, do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco.
O estágio foi realizado na Homestories- Atelier de Arquitetura e Design de Interiores, localizado na Castanheira do Ribatejo, tendo tido a duração de seis meses, iniciou-se a nove de outubro de 2023 e terminou a cinco de abril de 2024.
O presente relatório encontra-se dividido numa fase inicial, na introdução ao estágio, onde se pode ver descrito e justificado o porquê da realização do mesmo, seguindo-se de um enquadramento teórico, sobre o Design de Interiores.
Posteriormente, será apresentada a empresa onde se realizou o estágio, assim como, a localidade onde se situa. Por fim, são referidas as atividades desempenhadas, bem como, os projetos desenvolvidos, destacando o conhecimento e a experiência obtida em cada um deles.
Este estágio possibilitou a colocação em prática de todos os conhecimentos adquiridos ao longo do percurso académico anterior, bem como a sua interligação com os conhecimentos da empresa, sendo o primeiro contacto de inclusão e experiência com o mercado de trabalho, enquanto profissional da área.Abstract: This document consists of the curricular internship report, developed within the scope of the internship curricular unit of the 2nd year of the Master's Degree in

The internship was carried out at Homestories-Atelier de Arquitetura e Design de Interiores, located in Castanheira do Ribatejo, and lasted six months, it began
on nine October 2023 and enden on five April 2024.
This report is divided into an initial phase, the introduction to the internship, which describes and justifies why it was carried out, followed by a theoretical framework
on Interior Design. Subsequently, the company where the internship took place will be presented, as well as its location. Finally, the activities carried out will be
mentioned, as well as the projects developed, highlighting the knowledge and experience gained in each one.
This internship made it possible to put into practice all the knowledge acquired during my previous academic career, as well as interlinking it with the company's
knowledge, and it was the first contact of inclusion and experience with the job market as a professional in the field
O programa de guitarra portuguesa no ensino vocacional da música
No full textRelatório de Estágio apresentado à Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco para cumprimento dos requisitos necessários à obtenção do grau de Mestre em Ensino de Música - Instrumento e Música de Conjunto.A presente monografia reflete, primeiramente, a prática de ensino supervisionada desenvolvida no Centro Cultural de Amarante, que envolveu não só o acompanhamento de um aluno de guitarra portuguesa do ensino articulado, mas, também a classe de conjunto de Naipe de Orquestra e Acompanhamento, composta por discentes do ensino profissional.
A segunda parte concentra-se no desenvolvimento de uma nova proposta de programa curricular para a disciplina de Guitarra Portuguesa no ensino vocacional de música em Portugal. Analisou-se a origem histórica do instrumento, amplamente associada ao ensino informal, com o intuito de compreender de que forma o mesmo possui elementos que possibilitem a inclusão nos desígnios do ensino formal. Paralelamente, procurou-se avaliar como as metodologias e o repertório tradicional do ensino informal poderia ser incorporado na proposta curricular em desenvolvimento. Foram analisados diversos programas de ensino vocacional de música, e a opinião de docentes da Guitarra Portuguesa, nesse contexto, foi recolhida e comparada por meio de um questionário online. A partir dessa análise, elaborou-se uma proposta curricular adaptável para o ensino formal, que fosse abrangente e eclética. Procurou-se, deste modo, desenvolver uma proposta curricular que preserve a identidade do instrumento e que proporcione uma educação mais abrangente e motivadora para os estudantes.Abstract: This monograph reflects, firstly, the supervised teaching practice developed at the Centro Cultural de Amarante, accompanying an individual Portuguese guitar student from articulated teaching, but also the Orchestra Section and Accompaniment ensemble class, composed of professional education students.
The second part focus on the development of a new program proposal for the Portuguese Guitar discipline in vocational music education in Portugal. The historical origin of the instrument, widely associated with informal teaching, was analyzed, also understanding how it has elements that enable inclusion in the plans of formal teaching. At the same time, an attempt was made to assess how informal teaching methodologies and associated repertoire could be incorporated in the proposed program that is intended to be established. Several vocational music education programs were analyzed, collecting and comparing the opinions of instrument teachers in this context, through the realization of an online questionary. Based on this analysis, an adaptable curricular proposal was established for the formal teaching of the instrument, as eclectic and complete as possible. Our proposal aims to preserve the identity of the instrument and provide the students with a motivating and comprehensive education

Esta investigação tem como objetivo aprofundar o conhecimento sobre o potencial contributo do Design Gráfico para a Sustentabilidade nas suas dimensões humana, económica e ambiental de pequenos projetos ou negócios.
Foram adotadas metodologias exploratórias, generativas e avaliativas, intervencionistas e não intervencionistas. A metodologia exploratória procura aprofundar conhecimento sobre o tema e subtemas, pela revisão da literatura e do estudo de caso. As componentes generativa e avaliativa consistiram na realização de projetos em estágio curricular.
Os resultados indicam que o design gráfico pode contribuir para as diversas dimensões da sustentabilidade de projetos e negócios: Em termos humanos na melhoria da eficiência e eficácia da comunicação; em termos económicos, pela racionalização dos processos de desenvolvimento e produção e pelo modo como o design acrescenta valor, competitividade e diferenciação; em termos ambientais pela compatibilização da função e vida de produto com materiais, técnicas de produção e acabamentos.Abstract: This research aims to address the study in the area of graphic design, particularly on the contribution of graphic design to sustainability in Graphic Design.
This research aims to deepen knowledge about the potential contribution of Graphic Design to Sustainability in its human, economic and environmental dimensions in small projects or businesses.
Exploratory, generative and evaluative, interventionist and non-interventionist methodologies were adopted. The exploratory methodology seeks to deepen knowledge about the topic and sub-topics, by reviewing the literature and the case study. The generative and evaluative components consisted of carrying out projects during the internship.
The results indicate that graphic design can contribute to the various dimensions of project and business sustainability: in human terms by improving the efficiency and effectiveness of communication; in economic terms, by streamlining development and production processes and by the way design adds value, competitiveness and differentiation; in environmental terms by making the function and life of the product compatible with materials, production techniques and finishes
Insect-based chitin and chitosan from whole body sources and rearing by-products: Extraction, physicochemical, structural and bioactivity characterisation
No full textSó está disponível online o Material Suplemenmtar.Fractionation of edible insects and their rearing by-products can lead to expanded industrial applications and extraction of value-added products. The main goal of this study was to extract chitin and synthesise chitosan from three different insect sources ‒ Tenebrio molitor larvae, adult Acheta domesticus and A. domesticus rearing by-products (legs and wings). Furthermore, the physicochemical, structural, and bioactive properties of insect-derived chitin and chitosan were characterised and compared to commercial crustacean-based samples. Chitin was isolated from defatted sources through chemical hydrolysis followed by decolourisation and was deacetylated with a strong alkaline solution to synthesise chitosan. Notably, A. domesticus rearing by-products yielded the highest chitin and chitosan content. Chitin and chitosan derived from insects exhibited physicochemical and structural characteristics consistent with the α-polymorphic form, similar to the commercial samples. Differences were found in surface morphology, with insect-derived samples presenting large and irregular flakes and porosity, while the crustacean-derived samples presented irregularly arranged fibres and a more regular and smoother surface. As for antioxidant activity, although all chitosan samples demonstrated poor DPPH radical scavenging activity, this study showed for the first time that insect-derived chitosan presents lipid peroxidation inhibition ability. All chitosan samples presented antimicrobial activity against different pathogenic bacteria, with K. pneumoniae being the most susceptible strain. Nevertheless, there is potential for enhancement of the biological properties through modifications on the molecular weight and deacetylation degree. Contributos da comunidade compassiva nos cuidados aos doentes em fim de vida e seus cuidadores
No full textA formação avançada dos profissionais que integram as equipas de cuidados paliativos (CP) é uma necessidade que, no meu caso, se cruza com uma motivação pessoal de concluir o mestrado em CP e que culmina no presente relatório de prática clínica para a obtenção do referido grau académico nesta área do saber.
Este relatório está dividido em 4 partes. Na primeira apresento o modelo de organização da equipa. A prática clínica foi realizada numa equipa domiciliária de CP que foi escolhida por se encontrar alinhada com a minha própria prática enquanto enfermeira, com a vantagem de ter um modelo de organização e funcionamento diferente da equipa comunitária em que trabalho e de constituir uma mais-valia na concretização do projeto de intervenção, uma vez que esta equipa é parceira numa comunidade compassiva.
Na segunda parte do relatório desenvolvo as competências adquiridas em estágio, onde integro todas as aprendizagens e reflexões críticas sobre as mesmas. O estágio deu-me a oportunidade de colocar em prática a teoria ministrada em contexto académico, sendo espelhadas na identificação e reflexão que faço das intervenções realizadas, organizadas pelos 4 pilares dos CP. Fui integrada na equipa e realizei visitas domiciliárias de acompanhamento do doente e cuidador/família.
O estudo de caso escolhido e descrito na terceira parte do trabalho orienta para a discussão da importância das redes de vizinhança compassiva nos cuidados à pessoa com doença avançada e em fim de vida e no apoio ao seu cuidador.
Esta temática é desenvolvida na parte IV, no projeto de intervenção, pela urgência da criação e implementação de medidas de saúde pública que caminham ao lado das respostas dos serviços de saúde e sociais, envolvendo toda a comunidade civil nos cuidados ao doente com necessidades paliativas. Desta forma, as ações desenvolvidas tiveram como objetivo a sensibilização da equipa comunitária e intra-hospitalar de cuidados paliativos e da câmara municipal, para lançar sementes na constituição de uma comunidade compassiva.Abstract: Advanced training for professionals working in palliative care (PC) teams is a need that, in my case, intersects with a personal motivation to complete the master in PC and which culminates in the present report of clinical practice to obtain the academic degree in this area of knowledge.
This report is divided into 4 parts. In the first one, I present the organizational model of the team. The clinical practice was performed in a domiciliary PC team that was chosen because it was in line with my own practice as a nurse. This team also has the advantage of having a model of organization and works differently from the community team in which I work and has also the added value of implementation of the intervention project, because this team is a partner in a compassionate community.
In the second part of the report I develop the competences acquired in the internship, where I integrate all the learning and critical reflections on them. The internship gave me the opportunity to put into practice the theory taught in the academic context, being mirrored in the identification and reflection that I do of the interventions made, organized by the 4 pillars of PC. I was integrated in the team and carried out home visits to monitor the patient and caregiver/family.
The case study chosen and described in the third part of the paper guides to the discussion of the importance of compassionate neighbourhood networks in the care of the person with advanced and end-of-life disease and in supporting the caregiver. This theme is developed in part IV, in the intervention project. Due to the urgency to create and implement public health measures aligned with the responses of health and social services, involving the whole civil community in the care of the patient with palliative needs. In this way, the actions developed were aimed at raising awareness of the community, intra-hospital palliative care team and the municipality, to sow the seeds for the constitution of a compassionate community
Análise das estratégias de comunicação nas marcas: estágio curricular na Bastarda
No full textRelatório de Estágio apresentado à Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco para cumprimento dos requisitos necessários à obtenção do grau de Mestre em Produção para Média Digitais.Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar as estratégias de comunicação visual aplicadas por marcas no ambiente digital, com enfoque no estágio realizado na agência Bastarda, no âmbito do Mestrado em Produção para Média Digitais. Durante este período, foi possível trabalhar em projetos reais para diversos clientes, desenvolvendo competências em áreas como criação de conteúdos visuais, edição de fotografias e vídeos e newsletters.
O estágio visou aprofundar os conhecimentos teóricos e práticos adquiridos durante a formação académica, complementados pela experiência de trabalhar em equipa com profissionais experientes. Esta experiência proporcionou uma visão ampla das práticas e desafios do mercado de comunicação visual.
Entre os projetos desenvolvidos, destacam-se trabalhos de identidade visual, campanhas publicitárias e estratégias interação digital, adaptadas às necessidades de diferentes clientes. Através de escolhas de design, como cores, tipografia e layout, os projetos procuram criar mensagens visuais eficazes, alinhadas aos objetivos das marcas e às preferências do público-alvo.Adicionalmente, o trabalho inclui uma investigação teórica baseada em vários autores na área de comunicação corporativa, perceção de marca, branding comunicação digital e social media e design e comunicação visual. Em suma, esta abordagem combinou prática e teoria, permitindo refletir sobre o impacto das estratégias visuais na perceção e comportamento dos utilizadores. O estágio revelou-se uma oportunidade enriquecedora para compreender as dinâmicas do mercado, adquirir novas competências e consolidar conhecimentos, contribuindo para a preparação de futuras oportunidades profissionais nesta área.Abstract: This research aims to analyze the visual communication strategies employed by brands in the digital environment, with a focus on the internship carried out at the Bastarda agency as part of the Master’s program in Digital Media Production. During this period, I had the opportunity to work on real projects for various clients, developing skills in areas such as visual content creation, photo and video editing, and newsletters.
The internship aimed to deepen both theoretical and practical knowledge acquired during the academic training, complemented by the experience of collaborating with seasoned professionals. This opportunity provided a comprehensive view of the practices and challenges of the visual communication market.
Among the projects developed, highlights include work on visual identity, advertising campaigns, and digital interaction strategies tailored to the needs of different clients. Through design choices such as colors, typography, and layout, the projects aimed to create effective visual messages aligned with the brands' objectives and the preferences of their target audiences. Additionally, the work includes theoretical research based on various authors in the fields of corporate communication, brand perception, branding, digital communication, social media, and visual communication design. In summary, this approach combined practice and theory, enabling reflection on the impact of visual strategies on user perception and behavior.
The internship proved to be an enriching experience, offering valuable insights into market dynamics, fostering the acquisition of new skills, and consolidating knowledge, thereby preparing me for future professional opportunities in this field
Reflections on Linda Bustani’s piano methodology
No full textSó está disponível o resumo.This article’s context is that of specialized teaching of piano music teaching (individual and group), at beginner, basic and professional levels. Considering the peculiarities of each location, we felt the need to record the applicability of the piano teaching methodology of Linda Bustani (1951-) with whom we studied directly. This methodology was published in a book entitled Falando de Piano com Linda Bustani e Luiz Eça [Speaking of Piano with Linda Bustani and Luiz Eça] by Moema Campos. It consists of basic work on the piano, which can be compared to that of a ballerina on the barre. According to Bustani, the trained hand prepares the pianist to achieve full technical mastery and thus be qualified for musical interpretation (Campos, 2017). Linda Bustani's piano teaching methodology, systematized in this article, has been applied by her since 1980 in Brazil, with significant success. Since the 2000s, we have developed this pedagogy as a piano teacher, applying it with students of different ages. We are currently working in Portugal, and we wonder if Linda Bustani's pianistic methodology has similarities with the approach used by teachers in Portugal. To this end, we developed a qualitative descriptive study, which used as data collection instruments, in addition to bibliographical and documentary research, a questionnaire survey to piano teachers. Block-chain-based smart contracts e-ticketing platform
No full textDissertação apresentada à Escola Superior de Tecnologia do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco para cumprimento dos requisitos necessários à obtenção do grau de Mestre em Engenharia Informática - Área de Especialização em Desenvolvimento de Software e Sistemas InterativosOs Smart contracts ou contratos inteligentes, são uma inovação fundamental da cadeia de blocos, comportam-se como acordos digitais que se executam, de forma autónoma, termos predefinidos. Estes contratos são seguros, descentralizados, transparentes e imutáveis, estando estes preparados para uma vasta aplicação e em diversos sectores, como a venda de bilhetes para eventos, agilizando transações e reduzir a fraude.
Nesta dissertação propõe-se um projeto com o objetivo de explorar a utilização de contratos inteligentes na comercialização de bilhetes eletrónicos para eventos e com isto reduzir a especulação na venda de bilhetes e as redundâncias de papel, bem como a aplicação prática desta solução. Esta solução obriga assim à conceção, execução e depuração de contratos inteligentes utilizando Solidity na cadeia de blocos (blockchain)Ethereum.
Para responder a estes desafios, foi especificamente desenvolvida uma aplicação funcional, tendo como alvo vendedores de bilhetes, compradores e organizadores de eventos. Os resultados deste desenvolvimento demonstraram a viabilidade e aplicabilidade dos Smart contracts para processos de emissão de bilhetes transparentes e eficientes, embora atualmente limitados a um ambiente local. Contudo, estes fornecem uma base sólida para melhorias futuras e uma adoção mais ampla.
Em resumo, este projeto destacou o potencial e a viabilidade das cadeias de blocos e dos Smart contracts para transformar a emissão de bilhetes para eventos, garantindo segurança, escalabilidade e confiança do utilizador.Abstract: Smart contracts, a fundamental innovation of blockchain technology, are digital agreements that automatically execute predefined terms. These contracts are secure, decentralized, transparent, and immutable, making them suitable for a range of sectors, including event ticket sales, where they can streamline transactions and reduce fraud.
This dissertation proposes a project aimed at exploring the use of smart contracts in the sale and marketing of event tickets. The main objective is to reduce ticket speculation and paper redundancies, covering the design, execution, and debugging of smart contracts using Solidity on the Ethereum blockchain.
To respond to these challenges, a functional application was specifically developed, targeting ticket sellers, buyers and event organizers. The results of this development demonstrated the feasibility and applicability of Smart contracts for transparent and efficient ticketing processes, although currently limited to a local environment.
However, they provide a solid foundation for future improvements and wider adoption. In summary, this project highlighted the potential and viability of blockchains and Smart contracts to transform event ticketing, ensuring security, scalability and user trust
