The feeling of belonging and inclusion in a european outermost university
It is our wish to describe the development of a transnational research project, aiming to enhance
the feeling of belonging and inclusion, as a way of improving student and staff’s wellbeing,
particularly at a university of a European outermost region, Madeira. Even though similar studies
have been carried out in other four European universities, this paper is only focused on the
University of Madeira.
The multiple case study method was used [1-3], based on documentary analysis, surveys and
focus group techniques [4] for the collected data triangulation.
Inspired in “Impact Gaps Canvas” [5] and the “Six Conditions of Systems Change” [6], the paper
wishes to convey a quick view about the process and the results in terms of policy
recommendations to improve the feeling of belonging, at the University of Madeira, expecting it has
a positive impact on student and staff experience and quality of learning and teaching, according to

Exploring the potential of microextraction in the survey of food fruits and vegetable safety
The increasing demand for food to feed an exponentially growing population, the fast evolution of climate changes, how global warming affects soil productivity, and the erosion of arable lands, create enormous pressure on the food chain. This problem is particularly evident for fresh fruits and vegetables that have a short shelf life. For this reason, food safety precautions are not always a priority and they are often overused to increase the productivity and shelf life of these food commodities, causing concerns among consumers and public authorities. In this context, this review discusses the potential of microextraction in comparison to conventional extraction approaches as a strategy to improve the survey of food safety requirements. Accordingly, selected examples reported in the literature in the last five years will focus on the detection and quantification of pesticides, antibiotics, hormones, and preservatives in fresh fruits and vegetables using different extraction approaches. Overall, the use of microextraction techniques to survey the presence of contaminants in the food chain is very advantageous, involving simpler and faster protocols, reduced amounts of solvents and samples, and consequently, reduced waste produced during analysis while conserving a high potential for automation. Additionally, this higher greener profile of the microextraction techniques will boost a progressive substitution of conventional extraction approaches by microextraction processes in most analytical applications, including the survey of food chain safety.</jats:p
On the logic of theory change iteration of KM-update
We present a model for iterating the Katsuno and Mendelzon Update (KM-Update) process,
which is inspired by models developed for iterated belief revision in the AGM framework.
Our model adapts the postulates of belief revision proposed by Darwiche and Pearl,
including the independence postulate. We characterize two classes of iterated update
operators based on natural and lexicographic revision. The semantics of our models are
characterized using the framework of possible worlds
Food quality 4.0: from traditional approaches to digitalized automated analysis
the increasing demand for healthier and more nutritious food products. Traditionally, food quality is determined
using a range of destructive and time-consuming approaches with modest analytical performance, underscoring
the urgent need to develop novel analytical techniques. The Fourth Industrial Revolution (called Industry 4.0) is
progressing exponentially, driven by the advent of a range of digital technologies and other innovative tech nological advances. “Food Quality 4.0” is a new concept referring to the use of Industry 4.0 technologies in food
analysis to achieve rapid, reliable, and objective assessment of food quality. In this review, we will first discuss
the fundamentals and principles of Food Industry 4.0 technologies and their connections with the Food Quality
4.0 concept. Then, the most common techniques used to determine food quality will briefly be reviewed before
highlighting the advancements made in analytical techniques to assess food quality in the era of Industry 4.0.
Food Quality 4.0 is characterized by growing digitalization and automation of food analysis using the most
advanced technologies in the food industry. Key aspects of Food Quality 4.0, including, among others, non destructive fingerprinting techniques, omics technologies and bioinformatics tools, Artificial Intelligence and
Big Data, have great potential to revolutionize food quality. Although most of these technologies are still under
development, it is anticipated that future research will overcome current limitations for large-scale applications
The present report is considered as a compendium of the knowledge and pedagogical
experiences lived during a teacher training course in Pre-school Education and Primary
School Teaching.
Segmented into two distinct parts that complement each other (Part I - Theoretical and
Methodological Framework and Part II - Pedagogical Intervention), this report aims to
share, portray, substantiate and reflect on the pedagogical practices developed in Pre School Education (Strawberries Room, Santa Clara's Semi-Boarding Nursery School)
and in Primary School (1st A and 4th A classes, Marítimo's College). It should be
emphasized that the first part covers the theoretical and methodological bases that
underpin the pedagogical practices developed, while the second part comprises the
description and reflection of certain learning moments experienced in the various
interventions.
With the intention of demonstrating a critical and reflective attitude, the Action-Research
methodology was used to identify and subsequently solve the problems identified in each
group/class. Thus, we tried to answer the following problematic questions: "How can we
promote group work competencies in the Strawberries Room?", "How can we make
children learn to manage conflict situations by promoting quality interpersonal
relationships in the 1st A class?" and "How can 4th A class students feel more motivated
towards writing”.
Thus, all the aspects explained in this report represent the culmination of everything that
contributed to my training path, as well as to my future professional practice

Can employees capitalize upon their role breadth self-efficacy and innovative work behaviour to enhance their prospects of promotion?
By acknowledging the role of assessing employees’ promotability in talent development and retention,
along with the need to improve the understanding about its antecedents, this paper examines the impact
of employees’ role breadth self-efficacy on this criterion. Specifically, it builds upon the integration of
previous theoretical developments regarding the motivational virtues of role breadth self-efficacy at
work, with the core assumptions of Spence’s signalling theory to empirically test whether innovative
work behaviour acts as an underlying mechanism of the link between role breadth self-efficacy and
promotability. Relying upon a time-lagged design with multisource data (employees and respective
supervisors), evidence obtained from a sample of N = 185 software engineers supported the indirect
effect of role breadth self-efficacy on supervisors’ ratings of employees’ promotability, via employees’
innovative work behaviour. The main theoretical and applied contributions of these findings are pre sented and discussed in the context of human resource management.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A perplexidade
independentemente do lugar (BALSAS, 2005).
planeamento, implementação, e resultados preliminares do programa Porto Maravilha. Embora a
Apesar do icónico Museu do Amanhã
Events are unique opportunities to reconstruct and promote cities (Balsas, 2004). The puzzlement
underpinning this essay is the necessity to document how urban strategies are appropriated,
repeated and implemented in a “copy paste” manner, independently of the place where they occur
(Balsas, 2005). The Porto Maravilha took place in Rio de Janeiro’s harbor front in anticipation of the
2016 Olympic Games. This essay points out moments in the planning, implementation and
preliminary results of Porto Maravilha. Although the metaphor “bread and carnival” can be utilized
to analyze entrepreneurial urbanism, here it is important to emphasize the idiosyncrasies of the
Brazilian culture (Balsas, 2017). Moreover even though the iconic Museu do Amanhã reminds us of
the World Trade Center transport hub in Manhattan, the event also celebrated Brazilian indigeneity
portrayed in the land-water interface, port and stevedore functions, local identities, and the
