Desenvolvimento de uma aplicação móvel AppSESARAM
O Serviço de saúde da Região autónoma da Madeira (SESARAM) pretende implemen tar uma nova forma de interagir com os utentes desta instituição, pois ao longo do
tempo foi notado uma necessidade de reformular o atual portal do utente e foi regis tado um maior interesse dos utentes poderem aceder aos seus dados clínicos através do
seu dispositivo móvel de uma forma mais acessível e interativa.
A solução remete-se para a implementação de uma aplicação móvel destinada aos
dispositivos com os Sistemas operativos (SO) Android e iOS através da plataforma Win dev Mobile (WDM). Esta app englobará uma junção de alguns conteúdos importantes
do atual portal web de informação ao utente com todos os serviços clínico presentes no
portal do Utente.
Após implementação da app, foi revisto com colegas do Núcleo de Informática (NI)
toda a estrutura da app desenvolvida de forma a verificar se cumpre com todos os
requisitos funcionais e não funcionais.
Posto isto foram realizados testes de usabilidade com profissionais de saúde desta
entidade utilizando a técnica qualitativa "Concurrent Think-Aloud" e com o preenchi mento de questionários utilizando os métodos System Usability Scale (SUS) e NASA
Task Load Index (NASA TLX). Após análise dos resultados dos questionários, foi pos sível verificar que estes revelaram-se bastante positivos, foram obtidos valores altos a
nível de usabilidade e baixos a nível da carga cognitiva necessária aos utentes para a
utilização da app.
Para finalizar foram realizadas alterações na aplicação de forma a melhorá-la consoante o feedback recebido dos participantesThe entity SESARAM intends to implement a new way to interact with its users,
because over time it was noticed a need to reformulate the current user portal and it
was registered a higher interest of the patients to be able to access their clinical data
through their mobile device in a more user-friendly and interactive way.
The solution refers to the implementation of a mobile application aimed at devices
with the Android and iOS operating systems through the WDM platform. This app
will include a combination of some important contents of the current user information
web portal with all the clinical services present in the User portal.
After the implementation of the app, the entire structure of the developed app was
reviewed with the team in order to verify if it meets all functional and non-functional
requirements.
Additionally, usability tests were performed with health professionals of this entity
using the qualitative technique "Concurrent Think-Aloud". and with the completion
of questionnaires using the SUS and NASA TLX methods. After analysing the results
of the questionnaires, it was possible to verify that these revealed to be very positive,
with high values obtained in terms of usability and low values in terms of the cognitive
load required to use the app.
Finally, some changes were made to the app in order to improve it according to the
feedback received from the participants
Weekly External Load Performance Effects on Sports Injuries of Male Professional Football Players
One of the most challenging issues professional football players face throughout their
careers is injuries. Those injuries often result from suboptimal training programs that were not
designed according to the players’ individual needs. This prospective study aimed to examine in
detail the effects of sports injuries on professional football players’ weekly external load performances.
Thirty-three male professional football players were monitored using 10-Hz Global Positioning Sys tem (GPS) units (Apex pro series, StatSports) during an entire season. The variables considered in the
analysis were total distance (TD), high-speed running (HSR), accelerations (ACC), and decelerations
(DEC). The comparisons were made between the four-week block before injury (–4T), four-week
block after return (+4T), and players’ season averages (S). Players displayed significantly higher
values of TD, HSR, ACC, and DEC in the –4T, compared to the other two moments (+4T and S).
Furthermore, the comparison between the +4T and S showed no significant variations in the GPS
metrics. It was shown that a significant increase in players’ weekly external load performance over
a four–week period may have a negative effect on the occurrence of injuries from a professional
football standpoint. Future research should consider the effects of injury severity on players’ external

Abordagem Big Data a dados de mobilidade em transportes públicos
A necessidade de armazenar, processar e analisar os dados é uma realidade cada vez
presente nas empresas onde as decisões de negócio dependem muito das plataformas
digitais. A introdução do conceito de Data Warehouse teve como finalidade facilitar e
melhorar o processo de recolha de indicadores de negócio imprescindíveis.
O conceito de Big Data veio com o aumento da variedade e do volume de dados para fins
de análise. Com esse conceito em mente, foram desenvolvidas tecnologias para fazerem
face aos desafios impostos. A transformação digital no registo de entradas e saídas nos
transportes público leva a grandes volumes de dados que podem ser usados para aplicar
análises de negócio na área [1].
Este projeto visa a recolha de um conjunto de tecnologias na vertente do Big Data e a
avaliação da capacidade de armazenamento, do método de elaboração dos métodos de
ETL e do desempenho na obtenção de resposta a um conjunto de queries, consoante o
aumento do volume de dados de mobilidade, referentes às entradas dos autocarros da
companhia de transportes públicos Horários do Funchal.
É introduzida neste projeto uma revisão de literatura sobre os conceitos de Data
Warehouse, de modelos dimensionais e de Big Data, bem como nas tecnologias existentes
e trabalhos relacionados com manipulação de Big Data. Foi também objeto de análise do
estado da arte a aplicação destas tecnologias nos transportes públicos.
Os resultados apresentados revelam que algumas plataformas conseguem adequar-se bem
ao um aumento do volume de dados, com boas capacidades de desempenho, tanto na
execução de processos de ETL, como na execução de queries de consulta, em comparação
a outras tecnologias, cujo resultados são pouco práticos neste tipo de estudo.The need to store, process and analyse data is a increasingly present reality in companies
where business decisions depend heavily on digital platforms. The purpose of introducing
the Data Warehouse concept was to facilitate and improve the process of collecting
essential business indicators.
The concept of Big Data came with the increase in the variety and the volume of data for
analysis purposes. With the concept in mind, technologies were developed to face the
imposed challenges. The digital transformation in the registration of entrances and exits
in the public transport lead to large volumes of data that can be used to apply business
analysis [1].
This project aims to collect a set of technologies in the field of Big Data and evaluate the
storage capacity, the method of elaborating ETL methods and the performance in
obtaining a response to a set of queries, referring to the entrances of the buses of public
transport company Horários do Funchal.
This project introduces a literature review on the concepts of Data Warehouse,
dimensional models and Big Data, as well as existing technologies and work related to
Big Data manipulation. The application of these technologies in public transport was
also subject to a state-of-the-art analysis.
The presented results reveal that some platforms are able to adapt well to an increase in
the volume, with good performance capabilities, both in the execution of ETL processes
and in the execution of queries, in comparison to other technologies, whose results are
impractical in this type of study
Hydraulic Planning in Insular Urban Territories: The Case of Madeira Island—São João Stream, Funchal, Portugal
his study’s primary goal was to conduct an analysis regarding the flood susceptibility
of the main watercourse of the São João (Funchal) drainage basin. In addition, if proven necessary,
we also aimed to suggest mitigation measures, such as sizing a detention basin and promoting
adjustments of the riverbed’s roughness coefficient. This study also resorted to geomorphological
data—obtained during the watershed characterization process—that were then utilized in the SIG
ArcGIS software, in order to estimate the expected peak flow rate, considering a return period of
100 years using the Gumbel distribution. Finally, the Manning–Strickler equation was utilized to
determine the river discharge point’s drainage capacity; the reason for that was to verify whether its
drainage capacity was sufficient to drain the entire volume of rainwater associated with an extreme
flood event. In summary, the results obtained by this study indicate that the drainage capacity of
the river discharge point of the São João watershed (Funchal) is insufficient when considering an
extreme flood event, for a return period of 100 years. Hence, it became necessary to explore the two
aforementioned mitigation measures: first, regarding the detention basin, its sizing was calculated
through both the Dutch method and the simplified triangular hydrograph method; second, aiming
to increase the drainage capacity of the river discharge point, it is suggested that the roughness

Local Housing Strategy: Analysis of Importance and Implementation in Machico Municipality, Madeira
This article presents a detailed analysis of the local housing strategies (ELH) in the Mu nicipality of Machico, Madeira, examining the diagnosis of housing needs, proposed solutions, and
projected goals for the future. In addition to addressing the rehabilitation of private and public hous ing and the increase in housing supply, the study also explores how ELH relate to the new generation
of housing policies and the public support program for promoting housing solutions for vulnerable
people. It is important to note that the implementation of ELH in Machico also has a positive impact
on the local landscape and climate resilience, promoting the conservation of important forest areas

A Framework for Assessing Nature-Based Urban Stormwater Management Solutions: A Preliminary Spatial Analysis Approach Applied to Southeast Serbia
The development of the stormwater management strategies, e.g., low-impact development
(LID), water-sensitive urban design (WSUD), and sustainable drainage solutions (SUDS), was initiated
in the mid-1980s as a set of engineering approaches and technologies to reduce the harmful effects
of stormwater. Over time, all of them evolved in the holistic, multidisciplinary approaches and,
today, they are increasingly viewed and implemented under the umbrella term “Nature-based
Solutions” (NbS). The technical elements and measures of these NbS represent various technical
solutions, implemented i.a., according to the suitability of the site to achieve their maximum efficiency.
Currently, there are no standards or procedures for the application of NbS technologies in Serbia.
To overpass this and encourage implementation, we carried out preliminary assessment of NbS
elements suitability for application in eight urban settlements in the Region of Southern and Eastern
Serbia. The assessment is based on publicly available data and performed according to the existing
recommendations in the field of spatial planning and rainwater management for WSUD. The analyses
were conducted by GIS tools that involved spatial analyses of various terrain characteristics and
provided an insight into the criteria, i.e., constraints that are key to the placement of various technical
elements, including bioretention, rain garden, and permeable pavement. Research findings point
out that creation of the thematic maps with area suitability ratings for individual NbS stormwater
elements might represent a good starting point for further investigation, planning, and design. The
proposed framework for preliminary assessment is potentially useful for the countries and regions

The symbiosis of madeiran rural traditions And wellness experiences In nature: a contribution to the sustainability of tourism destination
Rural traditions in the natural environment are crucial for the identity and
sustainability of tourism destinations. This study aims to promote the symbiosis of
local traditions of the senior population of Madeira with wellness and experiential
tourism in nature. It is exploratory qualitative research that makes comprehensive
use of the literature about Madeiran levadas (irrigation channels), and traditions
with the method of thematic content analysis. Furthermore, this paper includes
proposals for the interconnection of tourist activities with the rurality of the senior
population. It is particularly possible by means of levada walking, agricultural tasks
in traditional terraces (poios), knowing about running water mills, and the use of
wool for traditional Madeiran ear caps. The sharing of the senior population’s
farming experiences with tourists serves to enhance and transform their quality
of life, affirming their local identity and authenticity. Thus, it contributes to the
conservation of ancient agricultural sustainable practices which are important for
the future of the local population and tourist activities in Madeira. In conclusion,
the preservation of agricultural and traditional activities by the senior population
in concert with wellness and experiential tourism in nature opens new sustainable

Automated Aviation Wind Nowcasting: Exploring Feature-Based Machine Learning Methods
Wind factors significantly influence air travel, and extreme conditions can cause operational
disruptions. Machine learning approaches are emerging as a valuable tool for predicting wind pat terns. This research, using Madeira International Airport as a case study, delves into the effectiveness
of feature creation and selection for wind nowcasting, focusing on predicting wind speed, direction,
and gusts. Data from four sensors provided 56 features to forecast wind conditions over intervals of
2, 10, and 20 min. Five feature selection techniques were analyzed, namely mRMR, PCA, RFECV,
GA, and XGBoost. The results indicate that combining new wind features with optimized feature
selection can boost prediction accuracy and computational efficiency. A strong spatial correlation was
observed among sensors at different locations, suggesting that the spatial-temporal context enhances
predictions. The best accuracy for wind speed forecasts yielded a mean absolute percentage error
of 0.35%, 0.53%, and 0.63% for the three time intervals, respectively. Wind gust errors were 0.24%,
0.33%, and 0.38%, respectively, while wind direction predictions remained challenging with errors

Towards automatic EEG cyclic alternating pattern analysis: a systematic review
This study conducted a systematic review to determine the feasibility of automatic Cyclic Alternating Pattern (CAP)
analysis. Specifically, this review followed the 2020 Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses
(PRISMA) guidelines to address the formulated research question: is automatic CAP analysis viable for clinical applica tion? From the identified 1,280 articles, the review included 35 studies that proposed various methods for examining CAP,
including the classification of A phase, their subtypes, or the CAP cycles. Three main trends were observed over time
regarding A phase classification, starting with mathematical models or features classified with a tuned threshold, followed
by using conventional machine learning models and, recently, deep learning models. Regarding the CAP cycle detection,
it was observed that most studies employed a finite state machine to implement the CAP scoring rules, which depended on
an initial A phase classifier, stressing the importance of developing suitable A phase detection models. The assessment of
A-phase subtypes has proven challenging due to various approaches used in the state-of-the-art for their detection, ranging
from multiclass models to creating a model for each subtype. The review provided a positive answer to the main research
question, concluding that automatic CAP analysis can be reliably performed. The main recommended research agenda
involves validating the proposed methodologies on larger datasets, including more subjects with sleep-related disorders,
