The impact of chatbot nonverbal communication on consumer experience: The impact of chatbot communication
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Data Driven Marketing, specialization in Digital Marketing and AnalyticsArtificial intelligence has been increasing its impact on society, so this study investigates the
impact of nonverbal communication, more precisely the use of emojis, by chatbots on
consumer perception, to combat the lack of studies on chatbots that use nonverbal
communication. This research aims to evaluate the impact of emojis on chatbots through
variables such as emotional attachment and the perception of credibility, as well as their
consequent influence on satisfaction and loyalty. Two experimental studies were carried out,
revealing that the perception of emojis depends on the context in question and has no
significant effect in terms of satisfaction, but tends to increase brand loyalty. Although the
main hypotheses were rejected, the study presents interesting results, mainly in the extra
analysis carried out with new mediating variables, which once again demonstrated that brand
loyalty increases when perceptions of warmth and social presence appear. We can conclude
by saying that the study provides an incentive for further reflection on how nonverbal
communication should be strategically integrated into chatbot communication, considering
the sector of business and the consumer profile

Factors driving central banks to launch digital currency: a global perspective analysis
Resulting from a decline in cash payments and a shift towards digital payments, as
cryptocurrencies and stablecoins gain popularity, Central Banks across the globe are looking
to launch their own digital currency (CBDCs). This currency is expected to be a form of
innovation that will foster the payment system regarding efficiency, safety and convenience.
While the motivations behind each country to launch digital currency vary greatly, many
commonalities in objectives are observed. Following a Business Project with Mastercard on
the topic of digital currencies and smart cities, this study aims to explore the different
motivations behind the launch of CBDCs
Design, synthesis and biological evaluation of new derivatives of phenolic metabolites
"Multiple (poly)phenolic compounds, related with the consumption of dietary products have been described
to modulate microglial cells, influencing the inflammatory response in the brain and microgliamediated
neuronal apoptosis. However, low amounts of information is available about small compounds,
present in human blood circulation after the metabolization of (poly)phenols. Previously we have shown
some of these small metabolites, capable of crossing the blood brain barrier at physiological concentrations,
and be neuroprotective.(...)
Understanding the acceptance and use of artificial intelligence (AI) as a travel planning tool: UTAUT2 extended model
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Information Management, specialization in Knowledge Management and Business IntelligenceArtificial intelligence (AI) powered tools have significantly impacted various sectors,
including tourism and hospitality. Travel planning has emerged as one of the most
common ways users plan to use AI chatbots, like ChatGPT. AI’s role as a travel planning
tool is transforming decision-making, simplifying processes, facilitating discovery, and
enhancing convenience for tailored traveler experiences. Users now achieve
comparable outcomes through succinct and interactive AI engagements, reducing the
need for extensive research. Despite this progress, research gaps persist in
understanding the factors influencing users’ acceptance and use of AI as a travel
planning tool. This study addresses the gap using an extended unified theory of
acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT2) Model. With a sample of 176 respondents,
the study uncovers positive correlations between performance expectancy, hedonic
motivation, perceived anthropomorphism, perceived intelligence and behavioral
intention to use AI as a travel planning tool and explores the mediating role of perceived
anthropomorphism, perceived intelligence in the use of AI as a travel planning tool.
These findings offer insights for AI and tourism stakeholders, guiding the design of usercentric tools and ultimately enhancing travel experiences
Brands influence on psychological factors in Sustainable Consumer Behavior: How do emotions, such as guilt, empathy, and pride, influence consumers' choices in ethical and sustainable consumption?
Dissertation presented as the partial requirement for obtaining a Master's degree in Data Driven Marketing, specialization in Marketing Research and CRMSustainable consumer behavior has been a predominant field of study in the last decades,
however, the role that certain emotions have in this endeavor has not been yet fully explored. As
a result, this academic research put into investigation the diverse factors that influence
sustainable consumer behavior, taking into consideration three main emotions: pride, guilt, and
empathy, as well as examining the influence of brand factors, as brand image, trust and
awareness have in pursuing consumers to perform sustainable behaviors. For this work, a
research model was developed and tested with data from 206 consumers, resorting to structural
equation modeling. The inclusion of emotions with brand factors reveals a significant relationship
with sustainable consumer behavior, demonstrating that pride is the most significant emotion in
consumer attitude towards sustainability. Overall, the findings and insights of this study can be
used in the marketing and communication field to create campaigns, activities, and projects
showing their concern and work towards a sustainable consumption, which is not only going to
help the environment, but also how brands are perceived
Optimizing the production and processing of Reflectin proteins and derived materials
Reflectins are structural proteins that play a vital role in cephalopods' camouflage being found in specialized reflecting cells. They have inspired the development of several bio-photonic prototype systems with potential applications in camouflage, sensing, and advanced optical technologies. However, to reach their full potential, the biotechnological production of reflectins must be optimized and a deep understanding of theoretical and experimental aspects related to reflectins condensation, assembly and processing requires attention. This thesis aimed to address this challenge, by presenting a comprehensive investigation of reflectins purification to maximize production yields; followed by the in vitro study of conditions that affect reflectins self-assembly and condensation, and finally assessment of distinct reflectins processing methods into materials.
Business in practice: an analysis exploring business performance and individual growth
The following report comprises two distinct sections, each focused on different aspects of the
Business in Practice experience. The first section delves into an analysis of the performance of
Team Zeno where three corporate functions – Human Resources, Innovation and Marketing –
will be examined to make sense of the decisions the company made as it transitioned toward
electrification and more sustainable practices. The second part is about the individual journey
within the executive team of the business. Through the examination of two critical incidents
during the simulation, the analysis reflects upon team dynamics and identifies areas for personal
development and lessons learned for future career endeavours
