Executive perceptions and strategic implementation of finance business partnering to enhance decision-making in organizations

    No full text
This Work Project provides valuable insights for executives considering the introduction or enhancement of Finance Business Partnering (FBP) in their organizations. It examines how executives perceive the process of adopting and managing FBP and its value. Based on a literature review and interviews with top executives, key findings highlight the importance of aligning objectives across departments, fostering cross-departmental collaboration, and addressing technological and human resource challenges. The study underscores the need for clear communication of FBP's role, mutual respect between departments, and integrating advanced BI tools and AI for effective FBP. These insights offer practical managerial implications for improving decision-making and business performance

Measurement of the socio-economic impact of a major private investment - an application for the German maritime industry

    No full text
This thesis suggests a new model to quantify the socio-economic impact of an isolated private investment along two dimensions, GDP impact and job creation measured in FTEs on the basis of the investment’s business plan. The model is theoretically built on an input-output model making use of Leontief multipliers to break down the overall impact into direct and indirect impact. The model is brought into application for an exemplary investment in the German maritime industry. The application reveals limitations for the explanatory power of the model by that opening room for further research by extending the model into further dimensions

A strategic analysis of entry mode choices for Sanofi in the insulin market of Africa

    No full text
This thesis examines the optimal market entry strategy for Sanofi's expansion into the African insulin market. Grounded in a theoretical framework that identifies factors influencing the choice of market entry mode, the study evaluates internal capabilities and external conditions. Key findings suggest significant opportunities for Sanofi due to a largely untapped market, strong internal capabilities, and a growing demand for insulin. Recommendations include pursuing a greenfield venture in Kenya to establish production facilities in Africa. With the support of the local government and international institutions, Sanofi can minimize operational risks, reduce capital expenditures, and, ultimately, improve insulin accessibility across Africa

Scenarios for the future of the German carbon capture and storage industry by 2045 and strategic implications

    No full text
With the increasing emphasis on climate change mitigation strategies, the permanent capture and storage of CO₂ has emerged as a significant solution. Therefore, this research explores what the future of the German Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) industry looks like in 2045. Scenario planning of the Intuitive Logics School guides the methodology. Theoretically, the work extends the literature on scenario planning for pre-operational sectors whilst practically it gives guidance on future-proof strategies for CCS stakeholders. The four scenarios illustrate potential future developments by examining the interplay between two key uncertainties ‘European Emission Trading System Price’ and ‘Degree of Market Liberalization’

Identifying barriers: how to enable the expansion of climate adaptation smes into rural areas in developing countries

    No full text
This study maps the barriers that SMEs offering climate adaptation solutions face when attempting to reach rural areas, where residents are particularly exposed to the adverse impacts of climate change. Moreover, it identifies strategies that SMEs have implemented to overcome such obstacles and gathers recommendations for the public sector to support rural expansion. This analysis utilizes qualitative data from eight interviews with SMEs founders from various developing countries who have previously engaged with UNIDO. The findings will inform future baseline studies for UNIDO’s related projects, laying the groundwork for more effective interventions in this area

    No full text
This Master's thesis presents a business plan developed as part of a group project, focusing on the venture development of an innovative approach to reduce postoperative bleeding — a critical healthcare challenge with substantial health, social, and economic implications. It proposes preoperative supplementation with microencapsulated arachidonic acid (AA), based on recent research that correlates higher levels of AA with a reduced risk of bleeding. Within the broader scope of the group's thesis, this contribution specifically addresses the market opportunity, competitive landscape, intellectual property strategy, and the framework for people and partnerships

Hurry up and implement. Internal organizational challenges in sustainability

    No full text
As corporations commit to sustainability targets such as the Science Based Targets initiative, the world watches as large enterprises take accountability for their carbon emissions. But what happens internally as the organization changes? This paper establishes the internal challenges to implementing sustainability initiatives in large enterprises. Based on semi-structured interviews with senior professionals across diverse industries, seven barriers are identified. They are knowledge and information gap, lack of ambassadors and touchpoints, costs, static objectives and dynamic inputs, extrinsic motivation, short-term vs long-term thinking, and fragmentation. Knowing these barriers helps managers navigate the green shift
