comunidade académica do IPSantarém.
Effects of Combined Training Programs in Individuals with Fibromyalgia: A Systematic Review
Fibromyalgia is a rheumatic disease characterised by chronic widespread muscular pain
and its treatment is carried out by pharmacological interventions. Physical exercise and a healthy
lifestyle act as an important mechanism in reducing the symptoms of the disease. The aims of
this study were to analyse and systematise the characteristics of combined training programs (i.e.,
type and duration of interventions, weekly frequency, duration and structure of training sessions
and prescribed intensities) and to analyse their effects on people diagnosed with fibromyalgia.
A systematic literature search was performed using the PRISMA method and then randomised
controlled trial articles that met the eligibility criteria were selected. The Physiotherapy Evidence
Database scale was used to assess the quality and risk of the studies. A total of 230 articles were
selected, and in the end, 13 articles met the defined criteria. The results showed different exercise
interventions such as: combined training, high-intensity interval training, Tai Chi, aerobic exercise,
body balance and strength training. In general, the different interventions were beneficial for
decreasing physical symptoms and improving physical fitness and functional capacity. In conclusion,
a minimum duration of 14 weeks is recommended for better benefits. Moreover, combined training
programs were the most effective for this population, in order to reduce the symptoms of the disease
with a duration between 60 and 90 min, three times a week with a light to moderate intensityinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The relationship between wellness and training and match load in professional male soccer players
The aims of this study were to: (i) analyse the within-microcycle variations in professional soccer players; (ii) analyse the relationships between wellness and training and match load demands; (iii) analyse the relationships between match-day (MD) demands and wellness during the following day (MD+1); and (iv) analyse the relationships between MD and wellness during the day before match-play (MD-1). Thirteen professional soccer players (age: 24.85±3.13 years) were monitored daily over 16-weeks for wellness and training and match-play intensity. The daily wellness measures included fatigue, quality of sleep, muscle soreness, mood and stress using a 1–5 scale. Internal intensity was subjectively measured daily using the rating of perceived exertion (RPE) and the multiplication of RPE by session duration (s-RPE). While external intensity was quantified utilising high-speed running, sprinting, and acceleration and deceleration metrics. Data was analysed from each training session before (i.e., MD-5) or after the match (i.e., MD+1). Repeated measures ANOVA or Friedman ANOVA was used to analyse the aims (i) where Spearman correlation was applied to analyse the relationships between the aims (ii) and (iii) between sleep quality and training intensity. The main results for aim (i) showed that MD+1 presented the lowest values for wellness variables (p < 0.05). While MD-1 presented the lowest internal and external load values (for all variables), with MD presenting the highest values (p < 0.05). Regarding aim (ii), the main result showed significant large negative correlations between fatigue and s-RPE (r = -0.593; p = 0.033). Considering aim (iii), significant small to very large negative correlations were found for sleep quality, fatigue and muscle soreness with all internal and external variables (p < 0.05). Lastly, the main results for aim (iv) showed large negative correlations for fatigue and session duration; fatigue and s-RPE; muscle soreness and session duration; muscle soreness and s-RPE; and muscle soreness and decelerations (p < 0.05, for all). The main conclusions were that MD had an influence on wellness and internal and external training intensity, notably MD-1 and MD+1 were most affected. In this regard, a tendency of higher internal and external intensity on MD was associated with lower wellness measures of sleep quality, muscle soreness and fatigue on MD+1.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
This research analyzes the mapping of processes developed by the Business Process
Mapping Commission (CMPN) in a Campus of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and
Technology, a Brazilian Public Institution of Higher Education (PIHE). The history of
management initiatives by processes of the rectory and the Campus object of study. In the
form of a case study, it was possible to identify, through a semi-structured interview with the
members of the CMPN, the motivations, expectations, methodology and main challenges
faced in the implementation of the mapping of processes that until the end of this work was in
progress. Through the application of a questionnaire with closed questions, it was possible to
verify that in the perception of teaching, research and extension managers, process mapping
has a positive impact on the quality of teaching. Process management is an approach that can
generate greater efficiency in the organization, however, it is clear that the particularities of the
Brazilian public sector create barriers for IPES initiatives to achieve the critical success factors
found in the literature, requiring their own models.N/
Education for environmental citizenship and activism through the development of nature-based solutions with pre-service teachers
Purpose: The study aims to assess the implementation of an intervention program that combines nature-based solutions with an environmental citizenship pedagogical approach for pre-service teachers. The research questions revolve around the educational potentials and challenges of this intervention. To our knowledge, no previous studies resorted to this combination to organize courses for initial teacher training.

técnicas e procedimentos do tipo qualitativo e quantitativo – análise documental,
educativas, melhorar o currículo escolar, desenvolver iniciativas formativas formais e
informais, empoderar e aumentar a autoestima de alunas e alunos. The present academic work, under the theme School Dropout in São Tome and Príncipe:
a fundamental cause at the base of local underdevelopment, developed in the framework
of the Master's Degree in Social Education and Community Intervention of the School of
Education of the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém, has as general objective to understand
the causes and the consequences of school dropout in the region of Praias, in São Tomé
and Príncipe, to know the existing relationship between school dropout and local
underdevelopment, the local policies to promote out-of-school training and decrease
school dropout.
From the methodological point of view, a mixed approach was developed, combining
qualitative and quantitative techniques and procedures - documentary analysis,
interviews, and questionnaires - taking as field of observation the territories of Praia
Gamboa, Cruz, Lochinga and Diogo Nunes.
It was concluded that school dropout (early interruption of the study cycle) is a problem
with multiple causes (individual, family, organizational and community), which
negatively affects students, their families, the school institution, as well as their territories
of insertion. It has consequences on the personal and professional development of
individuals, on their individual and social well-being and on community development,
with national projection.
It has been made evident the need for local and national government entities, supported
by development partners, to continue their efforts to eradicate school dropout phenomena,
constituting multidisciplinary work teams, with the participation of communities, in
which socio-educational work technicians should be included, working together in the
pedagogical training of teachers, increasing and equipping educational institutions,
improving the school curriculum, developing formal and informal training initiatives,
empowering and increasing the self-esteem of students.N/
FITeens Toolkit: promoting health-related behaviors in the educational context
Children and adolescents acquire different habits as they grow up. Some of these habits are
closely related to health, so acquiring healthy habits can greatly help them lead a healthy
and peaceful life in the future, while bad habits can be detrimental to them. For that reason,
it is necessary that from the different educational institutions, we help these young people
in the acquisition of these habits.
The aim of FITeens (Promoting physical activity and healthy habits in sedentary teenagers)
project is to pilot an entertaining and engaging educational intervention targeted at
teenagers to promote physical activity and healthy habits
This first result of the project consists of a comprehensive set of ideas, resources, practices
and some examples for Physical Education teachers that will cover the different key
behaviors that increase the risk of chronic diseases (physical activity, sufficient sleep,
moderate screen time, alcohol and tobacco consumption, and healthy food intake) that can
be incorporated into their teaching practice.
This toolkit consists of 3 different modules:
1. High schools as effective settings to promote healthy lifestyles. This module
covers the importance of schools in the acquisition of healthy habits by
adolescents.
2. Motivation as a key to physical activity promotion. This module focuses on the
importance of motivation in the acquisition of healthy habits.
3. Health-related behaviors in young people. This module will focus on the key
health-related behaviors mentioned above (physical activity, sufficient sleep,
moderate screen time, alcohol and tobacco use, and healthy food intake),
describing each of them in depth.
All of these modules are dedicated to the different health-related behaviors mentioned
above. Each of them will have a theoretical explanation, explanatory videos, infographics and
learning situations that will support Physical Education teachers in acquiring a broad
knowledge of how to get their students motivated to engage in physical activity and acquire
healthy habits, making them aware of their importance.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Internet of Things-based care monitoring for the elderly and those with special needs
As a society, we should provide support and care for individuals who are advanced in age or have special needs. We must offer them the opportunity to lead a safe and comfortable life. Sometimes, addressing simple things can mitigate critical problems. For instance, an improperly functioning heating system can put the users’ lives at risk, and a gas leak can prove fatal if not detected in time. Hence, this study aims to identify solutions that can help prevent accidents in such vulnerable populations. To achieve this, a safety device equipped with essential sensors continuously monitors the living environment of people with special needs.
If there are any anomalies, the system will immediately alert the concerned family members and competent security authorities, ensuring a quick and efficient response to potential emergencies. The proposed safety device aims to provide extra protection and peace of mind for special care individuals. By implementing such safety measures, we can make significant strides in promoting the well-being and safety of vulnerable populations.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Local e-gov mobile application(s) review
This study aims to evaluate the adoption of e-government services in Portuguese municipalities, specifically focusing on the usage of mobile applications. Data was collected from 40 of the most populous municipalities in Portugal and analyzed for usage of e-government services such as incidents, traffic conditions, and population alerts through mobile apps. The study found a mixed correlation between population size and e-government app usage, with lower population municipalities showing lower adoption rates. The results suggest that further efforts are needed to improve accessibility and promote e-government services to increase engagement and usage among the local population. The study provides valuable insights for local government representatives and stakeholders to effectively use and access e-government services for the benefit of all residents. The results emphasize the need for effective outreach and promotion strategies, as well as the importance of user testing and feedback in the development process, to ensure that the applications meet the needs and expectations of users. Furthermore, the study highlights the need for investment in marketing and communication initiatives to increase awareness and adoption of e-government apps among the population. In conclusion, this study contributes to the literature on e-government adoption in Portuguese municipalities and provides a foundation for future research in this area. The findings can inform the development of effective policies and strategies to promote the adoption and usage of e-government services, enhance accessibility and efficiency of local government services, and improve the quality of life for residents.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Comparison of Image Processing and Classification Methods for a Better Diet Decision-Making
This paper aims to explore the use of different deep learning techniques, specifically convolutional neural networks (CNNs), for dietary assessment through image food recognition and compare their performance to the human visual system (HVS). Currently, there are three main techniques for using CNNs in this task: training a network from scratch; using an off-the-shelf pre-trained network; and performing unsupervised pre-training with supervised adjustments. In this study, the authors evaluate the performance of three CNN models with varying numbers of parameters (5,000 to 160 million) based on dataset size and spatial image context.
The authors also consider human knowledge and classification to compare the performance of the CNNs to the HVS. They find that while the CNNs make errors across different food classes, the HVS tends to
make semantic errors with specific food classes. As a result, the HVS shows more consistency in its answers. Overall, the findings suggest that the HVS is more accurate when the dataset is diverse, while the CNN
performs better when the dataset is focused on a particular niche.
In conclusion, this study provides empirical evidence that machine learning can be more efficient than the HVS in certain tasks but also highlights the strengths and limitations of both approaches. The authors suggest
that combining CNNs with other classification techniques, such as bagof-words, may be a promising approach for improving the accuracy of dietary assessment through image food recognition.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
