The 21st century can be defined as the era of “global environmental crisis”. The education for environmental citizenship pedagogical approach is a strategy with potentialities for meeting the challenge of a sustainable future. This case study sought to evaluate the effect of an ecology course, organized according to the education for environmental citizenship pedagogical approach and supported by Web 2.0 tools, on a group of Portuguese female pre-service teachers (n = 21). No previous studies resorted to this approach to organize courses for initial teacher training or used Web 2.0 to support its implementation. Thorough semi-structured interviews and the analysis of the resources produced, it was found that the pre-service teachers considered the approach to be structured, interesting and motivating, with positive impacts on the development of several attributes of an environmental citizen. The experience with the pedagogical approach fostered the didactic knowledge of the pre-service teachers, regarding how to implement activities of this nature. The Web 2.0 tools used to support the implementation of the pedagogical approach—Facebook and MindMeister—were positively appreciated by the participants. However, some identified difficulties suggest the necessity of using other platforms more frequented by youngsters. The distance-learning context imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic did not function as a big barrier to the pedagogical approach’s implementation. Suggestions for future research are presented, built on the limitations of this studyinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

To analyze the positional distances covered above generic and individualized speed thresholds within the most demanding phases of match play. Categorized by position, 17 English Premier League players’ match data were analyzed over 2 consecutive seasons (2019–20 and 2020–21). The most demanding phases of play were determined using a rolling average across 4 periods of 1, 3, 5, and 10 minutes. Distance covered in the time above the standard speed of 5.5 m/s was analyzed, with individualized metrics based on the maximal aerobic speed (MAS) test data. Results: Central defenders displayed lower values for high-intensity periods when compared with fullbacks, midfielders, and wide midfielders for both generic and individualized metrics. MAS during 1-minute periods was significantly higher for forwards when compared with central defenders (82.9 [18.9] vs 67.5 [14.8] for maximum high-speed running [HSR] and 96.0 [15.9] vs 75.7 [13.8] HSR for maximum MAS activity). The maximum effect size differences between the central midfielders, wide midfielders, and fullbacks for HSR and MAS measures under the maximum HSR criterion was 0.28 and 0.18 for the 1-minute period, 0.36 and 0.19 for the 3-minute period, 0.46 and 0.31 for the 5-minute period, and 0.49 and 0.315 for the 10-minute period. Conclusions: Individualized speed metrics may provide a more precise and comparable measure than generic values. Data appear to be consistent across playing positions except for central defenders. This information may allow practitioners to directly compare individualized physical outputs of non–central defenders during the most demanding phases of play regardless of the players’ positional group. This may provide coaches with important information regarding session design, training load, and fatigue monitoring.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
As number of photovoltaic systems being installed is increasing, also many users are deciding to include batteries, and postpone the consumption of that energy when it is most needed. Moreover,a crucial issue can keep undetected for long time causing dangerous situation which can lead to a potential disaster. However, the chemical nature of batteries makes them unreliable and dangerous. In this risky scenario, it becomes essential to monitor their behaviour in order to avoid accidents. In that purpose, a enabled Internet of Things (IoT) framework is proposed for monitoring the batteries values for temperature and voltage through the use of sensors. If these values becomes abnormal, a notification is triggered to the responsible person. Based on experimental results, the proposed framework to detect and notify hazard situations caused by battery faults.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

IoT Smart Collect - Routing Process and Driver Guidance

    Get PDF
Waste collection is a traditional process that involves a driver collecting waste from a set of designated deposits based on a pre-determined route. The authors present a new approach that utilizes Artificial Intelligence to define the route based on the occupancy volume of the deposits. The new process involves the use of a mobile application to assist the driver during the journey. The application communicates with the central system to receive information on the next route, calculates the best possible route considering traffic laws and road conditions, and guides the driver throughout the journey. The application also provides real-time updates on the driver’s progress and allows the driver to provide feedback All collected data is stored and can be consulted and explored through lists, graphs, and filtering options. The authors believe that the new approach will improve the efficiency of waste collection and provide a better experience for the driver.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Ebsco e Web of Science. The potential interaction between physical activity (PA) and motor competence (MC) and in children is still not entirely clear. This review aimed to investigate the effects of physical exercise (PE, a component of PA) on CM and vice versa in children aged 2 to 10 years. The search was conducted in PubMed. Ebsco and Web of Science. The studies were included according to the following criteria: children aged 2 to 10 years with no restrictions for physical activity and with typical motor development; intervention with physical activity supervised by exercise professionals. The quality assessment was performed using the Downs and Black checklist. Six studies were included, which showed that the PE improves the MC, develops the foundational motor skills (FMS) and improves the executive functions in children aged 2 to 10 years. It is suggested to include neuromuscular training and games in physical education classes to improve CM and develop foundational motor skills in order to increase PA levels from an early age. The relationship between PE and CM seems to be bidirectional.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Breathing in karate kokyo technique in static imagetic and in motor performance in children of different graduations between 6 and 15 years of age

In karate the movement is in close articulation with a controlled diaphragmatic respiratory flow. As diaphragmatic breathing activates the parasympathetic nervous system and reduces the respiratory rate (CR), we checked whether children of different karate graduations showed changes in CR and heart rate variability (HRV), in the conditions of static imagery (I) and motor execution (E) of the kokyo technique. Years of practice and years of competition in Katas revealed a direct association with low frequency, an HRV indicator ((rho=,614, p=,025; rho=,581, p=,038, respectively), which may indicate that it is possible for children to integrate breathing in the performance of kokyo. The weekly training frequency was inversely associated with CR (rho=-,584, p=,036) and directly with LF (rho=,581, p=,038), in condition E, so it must be important for the articulation between breathing and movement in these training levels. As no association was found between conditions I and E in the HRV and CR indicators, it is likely that the use of imagery alone does not provide synchronization of breathing and movement in kokyo in children, but allowed to highlight the acute effect of breathing on the HRV increase. The analysis of CR and HRV made it possible to assess the effective ability to adjust breathing and movement in the performance of kokyo in these children.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
