This internship report was developed as a component of the Master's Degree program in Pre-school Education, encompassing internships conducted within nursery schools, kindergartens, and professional experiences in nursery school settings. The report is structured into three main sections: firstly, detailing the activities undertaken during the internships; secondly, delving into the investigative aspect, particularly focusing on the development of number sense among young children through classification and counting tasks; and finally, reflecting upon the experiences gained throughout the internships. The primary research objectives were to analyze the developmental progression of number sense among children aged between 3 and 4, specifically through classification and counting tasks, and to gather insights from nursery school teachers regarding their perspectives on fostering number sense through similar activities. The findings of this study reveal that children generally demonstrate greater proficiency in classification tasks compared to counting tasks, despite many of them having already grasped the principles of oral sequencing and term-to-term correspondence. Regarding the perspectives of kindergarten teachers, only one teacher explicitly associates number sense with classification tasks, while all educators affirm that they consistently encourage the development of number sense through diverse counting activities utilizing various materials and incorporating them into daily routines.N/

This master's thesis falls within the scope of the management of social economy organisations and is a case study carried out in a religious congregation. The aim of this study, carried out between March and December 2023, was to develop a social business model for the congregation, in the form of maintaining two of its houses, one in Santarém and the other in Lisbon. This social business model was based on the Canvas business model framework by Osterwalder and Pigneur (2011).The methods used to gather information were semi-structured questionnaire surveys with open and closed questions, focus group and interviews. The surveys were applied to users of both houses, since they are open to the public and there is the possibility of people taking advantage of services, namely renting space. The focus group and interviews were also carried out with users of the houses and other stakeholders in the congregation. With regard to the results of the study, taking into account the responses to the surveys and the contributions of the focus group participants and interviewees, the final social business model was arrived at, where compared to the model initially created, it is reflected in greater comprehensiveness in terms of value propositions, communication channels, potential clients and revenues. Three main conclusions can be drawn from this study. The first is the need for the Congregation's services to be better publicised; the second is the relevance of opening up economic activity and, finally, it is also advisable to apply prices to the services provided, given the impossibility of operating solely on the basis of donations.N/

Innovative learning environments: a learning experience with in-service teachers

    No full text
The challenges of modern society have led educators to reconceptualize formal learning spaces, into flexible spaces, imbued with technologies and active methodologies. To achieve this goal, a course was developed in an in-service teacher education Master program to support teachers in developing learning scenarios for innovative learning environments (ILEs). The aims of the current study are to understand the impact of this course on teachers’ preparation to create learning scenarios appropriate for ILEs, and on teachers’ perspectives about the potential benefits and challenges of ILEs. Twelve in-service teachers enrolled in the Master program participated in the study. Data collection included teachers’ assignments, learning scenarios and a survey. Results showed that developing learning scenarios had a positive influence on teachers’ perspectives toward ILEs. Specifically, the participants revealed that they had developed skills to elaborate, implement and assess learning scenarios in ILE; and to reflect on the contribution of ILEs to teaching innovation, to curricular management and to teachers’ practices. Moreover, the course improved their awareness about the importance of interdisciplinarity and teacher collaboration. These findings suggest that the skills developed by the teachers during the course could be mobilized for their practice due to their willingness to innovate in their schools.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Predictability and complexity of fine and gross motor skills in fibromyalgia patients: a pilot study

    Get PDF
Background: Fine and gross motor tasks are usually used to evaluate behavioral dysfunctions and can be applied to diseases of the central nervous system, such as fibromyalgia (FM). Non-linear measures have allowed for deeper motor control analysis, focusing on the process and on the quality of movement. Therefore, to assess uncertainty, irregularity, and structural richness of a time series, different algorithms of entropy can be computed. The aim of this study was to (i) verify the single-scale and multiscale entropy values in fine and gross motor movements and (ii) to verify whether fine and gross motor tasks are sensitive to characterizing FM patients. Methods: The sample consisted of 20 females (46.2 ± 12.8 years) divided in two groups, an experimental group with 10 FM subjects and a control group with 10 subjects without FM. Inertial sensors were used to collect the finger tapping test (FTT), walking, and sit-and-stand task data. Results: Regarding fine motor skills, patients with FM showed a loss of structural richness (complexity), but they had information processing with greater control in the FTT, probably to simplify task execution and for correction of the movement. On the other hand, people without FM seemed to have more automatic control of the movement when performed with the preferred hand and exhibited similar difficulties to the FM group when performed with the non-preferred hand. Gross motor tasks showed similar entropy values for both groups. Conclusions: The results show that FM patients have movement controls primarily at the level of the motor cortex, whereas people without FM perform movement at the medullary level, especially in fine motor tasks, indicating that the FTT is sensitive to the presence of FM, especially when performed with the preferred hand.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The purpose of the study was to examine the prevalence of the Relative Age Effect (RAE) across an international soccer programme in male and female players aged 12 years old to seniors. One hundred forty-five male (age: 18.8 ± 4.6 years; body mass: 68.1 ± 10.2 kg; body height: 177.3 ± 10.5 cm) and 218 female (age: 15.9 ± 4.6 years; body mass: 66.2 ± 10.5 kg; body height: 170.6 ± 8.3 cm) players from a National Association were assessed. All participants were divided into four quartiles: January to March (BQ1), April to June (BQ2), July to September (BQ3), and October to December (BQ4). The results showed that the distributions for all male squads were significantly skewed, with more players than expected from BQ1 in the U-21, U-19, and U-17 and less players than expected from BQ4 in the U-19 squad. The distributions for all female squads showed significantly more players than expected from BQ1 in the U-16 and less players than expected from BQ4 in the U-14 squad. The distributions across the different positions for the male squads combined were significantly skewed with more forward players than expected from BQ1 and less forward and midfielder players than expected from BQ4. For the female squads, there were significantly more BQ1 defenders from the U-16 squad than expected. In conclusion, this study unveils significant disparities in quartile distributions among male and female squads. Moreover, the data emphasize the potential impact of heightened physical demands in certain positions on the RAE.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Sexual Education: European Health Promotion. Training Guide

    Get PDF
Working on sexual education is one of the most pressing, but also one of the most difficult issues facing today’s educational systems. Reflecting these challenges in an international project is an excellent opportunity to find new reflections and approaches. From a holistic, properly contextualized perspective, the EdSeX project presents well-founded work suggestions that make us think about what is expected from sexual education, from childhood to higher education, reflecting the training of professionals who work in area of health and education. There are many issues associated with sexuality that continue to concern us and that need to be addressed from childhood. Sexual identity begins to be defined early, and it is also early that stereotypical ideas begin to be constructed. After many years in which biological determinism prevailed that considered the nature of men to be different from the nature of women, the concept of gender considers that the cultural issues associated with sexual identity are a social construct. Conceiving the definition of gender, in a broad, multidimensional sense, taking into account identity, sexual orientation, personal skills and interests, the deconstruction of stereotypical ideas is the basis for building greater equity between everyone from childhood. This process implies that sexual education begins by building a critical knowledge of oneself and of others, in the recognition of diversity, from a citizenship perspective. Knowledge of oneself and of the other is also the basis for understanding the social context and the variables that characterize it, namely the risks that an uninformed sexuality can entail. The prevention of sexual and emotional violence starts early and must be worked on constructively at the various levels of education, without forgetting higher education and the training of future health and education professionals who will have to do this work with increasingly diverse audiences. In this complex context, having a support script based on diverse experiences is excellent guidance that the EdSeX project provides us. This Guide promotes sexual education as a dynamic learning process, from a dialogical perspective, giving visibility to sexual, linguistic and cultural diversity, using digital media in a constructive and critical way. In addition to the work resources provided, the project has the added value of the methodological part built that leaves the way open for the development of the work already started in the different countries involved, in terms of training and research. May the EdSeX project be the basis for the construction of many more projects!info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
