Social media and digital influencers on Instagram: a case study
With the emergence of social media and continuous progress and paradigm-shifting breakthroughs in new media, communication professionals need to keep up to date with what consumers are talking about online. Brands tapped into this reality and understood that to influence interactions in this digital landscape, they would need to bring digital influencers into the equation about social media. By recognising that partnerships between beauty brands and digital influencers are a marketing strategy increasingly used by brands and by resorting to Instagram as a research environment, the project presented in this article aimed to understand, through a case study, the impacts that partnerships between the beauty brand Freshly Cosmetics and several digital influencers may have on its followers in Portugal. The study was conducted during the development of a master's dissertation in Applied Communication and, despite focusing on a single brand, enabled the authors to outline the methodology that will be further explored in future work with larger samples of brands. Ten publications from different digital influencers were selected and analysed according to a set of criteria, and a focus group was conducted with ten women who knew the brand under analysis. According to the results obtained, although digital influencers have some impact on decision-making, the participants preferred brands they already knew and their opinions were formed based on research and not on digital influencers' statements. For the participants, feedback from real consumers, external research conducted on their own, and the opinions of experts in the field are responsible for the brand's image in the eye of the consumer.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Higher Education Students’ Perception Toward the Portuguese and Foreign Media Sector.
In the scope of research on media literacy, knowledge about the media sector can be understood as an advantage for the full exercise of citizenship, in the sense that it allows citizens to have a critical and enlightened relationship with the media and the media field [1]. In an era when the consumer of media products is also "the messenger, the producer, the innovator and creator" [2], it is important to know the skills of those who will be the future media professionals, one of the groups that, among other skills, should have a deep knowledge about the media sector. Having as reference the results of the project "Media Literacy in Higher Education: an exploratory study with social communication students" which is taking place at the Superior School of Education / Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, this article presents the main conclusions concerning the students' knowledge about the media sector in Portugal and worldwide. The questionnaire survey applied to students of all three years of the course in May 2021 reveals that the vast majority were able to identify the groups that own different media in Portugal. Although no significant differences were found according to the year attended, it should be noted that the 1st year students show a good knowledge of the media sector, in some cases with higher averages than those identified for the 2nd and 3rd year. In general, the results are encouraging: for all the questions concerning the identification of the belonging of the Portuguese media to the respective economic groups, the great majority of the students of the course correctly pointed out the group in question. In the questions related to the media sector in the world, the students who participated in the study also revealed good knowledge, with the great majority being able to correctly identify the nationality of the television channel "BBC" and "Fox News" and all were able to identify a French and a Spanish newspaper, with the majority mentioning "Le Monde" and "El País" respectively. The evaluation of this dimension of media literacy among higher education students of a communication sciences course reveals positive results, in the sense that the participants' perception of the media sector in Portugal and in the world is clear and consistent.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Dilemma: do they write with or without the use of ICT? - students’ perceptions
Students’ perceptions can influence their performance in writing. In the Portuguese context, the number of studies on this subject is still small and has not provided a clear overview of typical perceptions, for example, of students by year of schooling. Even more significant is the gap in international and national research on the relationships between students’ self-perceptions and their performance in writing, mainly when mediated by Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). In this sense, this descriptive-correlational study focused on study the correlations between 4th grade students’ perceptions (n=338) regarding writing knowledge, attitudes, and self-efficacy in writing and their writing performance. The results of this study allow us to state that, in general terms, there are more positive perceptions of students’ attitudes and selfefficacy in writing with ICT than those without using these tools. Even though students’ perceptions may be different from their performance, it was found that their attitudes were more optimistic than their perceptions of knowledge and self-efficacy in writing. Understanding observed differences is essential for educational professionals to know their students’ perceptions, better adjust their pedagogical practices and select the pedagogical tools for each stage of the writing process.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
New horizons in gerotranscendence interventions. Targeting nursing home staff members and other caregivers: a scoping review
Purpose – The aim of this scoping review is to describe the published gerotranscendence interventions targeting older adults’ caregivers and their outcomes.
Design/methodology/approach – Six databases were searched, and three studies were selected for analysis: one short-term quasi-experimental study and two observational studies.
Findings – The interventions consisted in an instructional moment about the gerotranscendence theory and a moment for sharing personal perceptions.
Originality/value – Gerotranscendence interventions can be essential for the caregivers to have a better relationship with the older adults, as they could improve their perception on their needs. Even though the interventions presented promising results benefiting caregivers and older adults, none of the studies confirmed that these changes persisted in the long term and additional studies are needed to robustly investigate this subject.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The present Final Internship Report marks the culmination of the entire training process in the Primary School and Preschool Education. Thus, in the first part, the aim is to describe the journey in the two contexts where the internships took place, specifically in the Primary School and in Preschool Education. The report first presents a critical reflection on the practices in these contexts, particularly on some aspects that differentiate them and the practices developed there, with a brief emphasis on practices related to children's literature books in preschool education. In the second part, an investigation is presented with the objective of identifying and analyzing the pedagogical potential and characteristics of children's literature books for children aged between 12 and 36 months. The research began with a literature review that allowed for an understanding of the pedagogical potential and appropriate characteristics of children's literature books for these ages. Through this literature review we identified criteria for analyzing the books related to: skills that can be developed in the child; format/material; illustration; content/theme; language; graphics; and overall composition of the story. Eight books were selected from the database of two municipal libraries in the Northern Region of Portugal. The books were meticulously analyzed considering the different identified criteria/characteristics. It was concluded that, in general, the eight books analyzed meet most of the identified criteria. This work can become a contribution to improving knowledge, especially among educators, but also for parents and other professionals, regarding the selection of children's books, encouraging them to choose books with more pedagogical potential and more suitable for their children
Machine Learning Methodologies, Wages Paid and the Most Relevant Predictors
The agricultural sector worldwide has an economic dimension related to the remuneration of the production factors applied in the sector, an environmental contribution associated with the sustainability of rural places and a social dimension related to the employment creation and the consequent level of remuneration of the labour. The question here is about the level of wages paid in the agricultural sector across the European Union countries and about the main factors that may be taken into account to predict the level of these wages paid to agricultural workers. This research intends to select the models with better precision to predict the wages paid in the European Union agriculture and to suggest important predictors from the enormous number of indicators that may be identified in the farms. The findings obtained may be considered relevant support for the design of social and agricultural policies in the European framework.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Olive Oil Tourism: Innovative or Traditional Form of Rural Tourism?
Olive oil tourism is a unique and rapidly growing segment of agritourism, particularly
popular in Mediterranean countries Portugal, where olive oil production has deep cultural
and historical roots. At the heart of this form of tourism is the opportunity for visitors to
explore the olive-growing process, engage in tastings, and immerse themselves in the
traditions surrounding one of the world's most ancient food products. However, modern
innovation is playing a pivotal role in revitalizing these traditions, making olive oil
tourism not just a journey into the past but a dynamic exploration of the future. Based on
a qualitative analysis of five farms of olive oil tourism, findings indicate the focus on
tradition and values of the past as the main ingredient to promote the offer of olive oil
tourism. Through this blend of old and new, olive oil tourism not only preserves heritage
but also paves the way for a sustainable and vibrant future. Innovation through tradition
is indeed a path that must be considered by scholars and practitioners in the promotion of
olive oil tourism and related products. This work is funded by National Funds through the FCT - Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P., within the scope of the project Refª UIDB/00681/2020. Furthermore we would like to thank the CERNAS Research Centre and the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu for their support.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
