    No full text
O presente estudo aspira contextualizar e descrever o Inventário de 1898, reintroduzir o seu autor no Estado da Arte e compreender os impactes que este documento teve no Museu Rainha Dona Leonor e na História da Arqueologia em Beja; Rainha Dona Leonor Museum: the 1898 Inventory at the heart of the early collection and its impact on the History of Archaeology in Beja - Abstract: At the end of the 19th century, Beja developed with the addition of railway lines, allowing direct contact with the cultural ideas that were emerging in the capital. The population of Beja saw education as a path to prosperity, leading to important developments in Archaeology and Museology in the region. In this context, the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Beja was inaugurated in 1892, with an initial collection supported by items from the Sesinando Cenaculano Pacense Museum and items donated by ordinary people or distinguished figures in the pacense society. In 1898, curator and librarian, Joaquim António de Vargas prepared the 1898 Inventory to catalog this initial collection. This study aims to contextualize and describe the 1898 Inventory, reintroduce its author in the State of the Art, and understand the impact this document had on the Rainha Dona Leonor Museum and the History of Archaeology in Bej

Health literacy, access to and use of health services among higher education students in the Alentejo region

Background: Health literacy (HL) and navigational health literacy (NHL) are recognised as essential and modifiable determinants of equitable healthcare access, patient autonomy, and the effective use of health systems. Among higher education students, particularly in rural regions such as Alentejo, Portugal, HL and NHL levels remain insufficiently studied. This gap is critical, given the developmental relevance of this life stage, marked by increasing autonomy and health-related responsibilities. This thesis investigates HL and NHL among higher education students in Portugal’s Alentejo region, with a particular focus on their access to and use of healthcare services. The study also aims to co-design and prioritise collaborative, context-sensitive strategies to improve health literacy among this population. Methods: A sequential mixed-methods design was adopted across five interconnected empirical studies. Study 1 comprised a systematic review of HL interventions in academic settings. Studies 2 and 3 implemented cross-sectional surveys to assess HL and NHL levels and their associations with demographic, academic, and health-related variables. Study 4 employed qualitative methods to explore students’ experiences of accessing and navigating healthcare. Study 5 used a participatory approach to co-design sexual and reproductive health literacy interventions with students and key stakeholders. Results: A substantial proportion of students demonstrated limited HL (82.3%), and inadequate NHL (75.6%), particularly among those reporting financial hardship or chronic illness. Reported barriers to healthcare access included stigma, systemic opacity, service fragmentation, and informational asymmetry. Five co-created strategies were identified as contextually relevant and operationally feasible, highlighting the importance of peer support and the mediating role of nursing. Conclusion: Improving HL and NHL among higher education students requires integrated, participatory, and equity-oriented approaches. Nurses play a key role as mediators between students and healthcare systems.

O caso clínico descrito ilustra a complexidade do maneio dos gatos com sinais do trato urinário inferior, realçando a importância de uma abordagem individualizada, que considere fatores ambientais, comportamentais e clínicos; - Abstract: Literature Review and Clinical Case Report of Urethral Obstruction This internship report addresses Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease, a common clinical condition in feline medicine, characterised by signs such as dysuria, stranguria, haematuria, and, in some cases, urethral obstruction. It is a multifactorial and often recurrent condition that poses a clinical challenge due to the variety of underlying causes and its impact on animal welfare. This internship report is divided into three parts: a case analysis based on clinical experience during a curricular internship at the Ticino Animal Hospital in Switzerland; an updated literature review on the main causes of lower urinary tract signs in cats; and the presentation of a representative clinical case of urethral obstruction. The clinical case described illustrates the complexity of managing cats with lower urinary tract signs and highlights the importance of an individualised approach that considers clinical, environmental, and behavioural factors

Where Are We? Performative Strategies of Encounter

    No full text
This chapter is a visual, aural, and written iteration of the performative walk “Where are we? Performing the city, slowing down time” developed and presented by the artists Beatriz Cantinho and Susana Mendes Silva in the context of the “Elia Academy 2023: exploring situatedness” that took place in the University of Évora in May. The aesthetic focus of this performative walk was a reflection on how one can create connections with the place where one is, and how one can look and unveil lost, forgotten, or erased stories of a given territory. The territory was the city of Évora, where Cantinho and Mendes Silva wanted participants to experience its history, landscape and soundscape, and their own bodies, their own presence from a situated perspective. The authors also wanted to trigger a conscious experience that contrasted with the touristic way of experiencing this World Heritage city and its water systems

Os resultados sublinham a importância de considerar interações entre espécies nativas e invasoras em esforços de conservação, particularmente perante alterações climáticas; - Abstract: Title: Behavioural trade-offs between native and invasive fish species This study examined the effects of the invasive species Gambusia holbrooki and Lepomis gibbosus on the behavior and physiology of Squalius alburnoides under baseline, high-density, and temperature variation conditions. Behavioral assays in mixed and control tanks analyzed aggression and submission. G. holbrooki significantly increased aggressive and evasive behaviors in S. alburnoides, while L. gibbosus showed no significant behavioral effects but was linked to an increased DOPAC/DA ratio, which together with a visual increase of cortisol may indicate a rise of stress. Under high-density conditions, both invaders intensified intra-specific aggression, especially L. gibbosus. Temperature variation further amplified aggression, notably during maximum temperature phases. Cortisol and monoamine analysis reinforced the differential impacts of these invasive species. These findings highlight the importance of understanding invasive-native interactions for conservation, particularly in light of climate change

    ANTONIO BEATO. RITORNO A VENEZIA

    No full text
Over the course of almost two centuries of life, photogra- phy has undergone a progressive transformation of its disciplinary status. In this period of time it has acquired a predominant role in visual communication, but it has also significantly contributed to the development of an active dialogue between what in Italian are the terms rile-vazione and rivelazione, namely detection and revelation, between presenting the world as it is and suggesting to us the many ways in which it wants to, or can, be. Antonio Beato. Return to Venice is also, necessarily, immersed in this dialectic. The book traces Antonio Beato's photographic journey, beginning with his and his brother Felice's encounter with their future brother-in-law the British photographer and engraver James Robertson in Constantinople in the early 1850s. There is no definitive certainty about the origins of the Beato brothers, Antonio and Felice, but were probably born between 1832-35 either in Venice or in a territory that was once under the rule of the Serenissima, such as Corfu. Almost two hundred years have passed since their birth, and more than forty years since the first exhibition dedicated to them which took place at the Ikona Photo Gallery in Venice in 1983. The research that has led to the present book/catalogue began in 2021 when a significant group of photographs by Antonio Beato was rediscovered within two Albums from the archives of the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia. These photographs form the core of the exhibition, which benefits from loans from other fourteen different national and international institutions with the aim to provide a broader historical overview. The offers also essays from renown historians such as Nassar Rabbat, Angelo Maggi, Cristina da Roit and Emanuele Ciampini.Fondazione Musei Civici Venezia. Embaixada de Portugal em Itáli

Describing Land Cover Changes via Multi-Temporal Remote Sensing Image Captioning Using LLM, ViT, and LoRA

    No full text
Describing land cover changes from multi-temporal remote sensing imagery requires capturing both visual transformations and their semantic meaning in natural language. Existing methods often struggle to balance visual accuracy with descriptive coherence. We propose MVLT-LoRA-CC (Multi-modal Vision Language Transformer with Low-Rank Adaptation for Change Captioning), a framework that integrates a Vision Transformer (ViT), a Large Language Model (LLM), and Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) for efficient multi-modal learning. The model processes paired temporal images through patch embeddings and transformer blocks, aligning visual and textual representations via a multi-modal adapter. To improve efficiency and avoid unnecessary parameter growth, LoRA modules are selectively inserted only into the attention projection layers and cross-modal adapter blocks rather than being uniformly applied to all linear layers. This targeted design preserves general linguistic knowledge while enabling effective adaptation to remote sensing change description. To assess performance, we introduce the Complementary Consistency Score (CCS) framework, which evaluates both descriptive fidelity for change instances and classification accuracy for no change cases. Experiments on the LEVIR-CC test set demonstrate that MVLT-LoRA-CC generates semantically accurate captions, surpassing prior methods in both descriptive richness and temporal change recognition. The approach establishes a scalable solution for multi-modal land cover change description in remote sensing applications

Health gains from rehabilitation programs implemented by nurses among older people with impaired mobility and self-care deficit: A scoping review

    No full text
Introduction: Ageing is a multifactorial and progressive process that leads to a gradual decline in mental and physical function, directly impacting the ability to perform daily living activities and health-related quality of life. Thus, it is essential to develop strategies that prioritize the maintenance of the functional capacity and the enhancement of the quality of life and well-being of older adults. Objective: This scoping review intends to map the rehabilitation programs, used by rehabilitation nurses, for promoting mobility and self-care, among older adults, to identify the main health gains resulting from the rehabilitation programs implemented. Methods: This scoping review follows the JBI methodology and the results obtained are described according to the PRISMA-ScR guidelines, and was registered in the OSF (osf.io/zqkp3/). The electronic databases CINAHL Complete; Complete MEDLINE; Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials; Web of Science, Scopus, and Google Scholar, were searched in March 2025, for papers published in the last 10 years. Two researchers independently analyzed the papers for eligibility and extracted the data. Data on health gains whose association with the intervention was described were collected and synthetized, through narrative synthesis. Results: The initial search yielded a total of 15,347 records, and after screening, 12 papers were included. The evaluation of the methodological quality and levels of evidence of the studies, according to the JBI Critical Appraisal Tool, concluded that the average quality score of the studies ranged from 67% to 100%. The results revealed a variety of interventions implemented, targeting different aspects of rehabilitation, with a wide range in the duration (15 to 60 min) and frequency of sessions (three to 56), as well as the use of diverse instruments to assess the effectiveness of the interventions. The health gains associated with the musculoskeletal system were reported most frequently, followed by those related to neurocognitive enhancements. Respiratory and renal gains were only reported by one study each. Conclusions: This scoping review reinforces the evolving vision of nursing rehabilitation as a cornerstone of comprehensive healthcare, demonstrating its significant impact on enhancing health gains at several physiologic systems among older adults. Adopting a multiple physiological system-based framework for the analysis and implementation of these interventions may enhance the precision, accountability, and efficacy of care. Such poses nursing rehabilitation as an essential strategy in the continuum of care, advocating for its integration into healthcare systems and policies to support the health and sustainable recovery of the older population
