The crucial relationship among energy commodity prices: evidence from the spanish electricity market
The main purpose of this article is twofold to analyze: (a) the long-term relation among the
commodities prices and between spot electricity market price and commodity prices, and (b) the
short-term dynamics among commodity prices and between electricity prices and commodity prices.
Data between 2002 and 2005 from the Spanish electricity market was used. Econometric methods were used in the analysis of the commodity spot price, namely the vector autoregression model, the vector error correction model and the granger causality test. The co-integration approach was used to analyze the long-term relationship between the common stochastic trends of four fossil fuel prices. One of the findings in the long-term relation is that the prices of fuel and the prices of Brent are intertwined, though the prices of Brent ten to ‘‘move’’ to reestablish the price equilibrium. Another finding is that the price of electricity is explained by the evolution of the natural gas series.Commodities, Electricity and fuel prices, Co-integrationinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The influence of ecological concern on green purchase behavior
The present paper seeks to address a gap in the literature regarding green marketing and examines the relationship between ecological concern, inward and outward environmental attitudes, purchasing behavior and environmental behavior as antecedents of green purchasing behavior. The data was gathered through an online survey carried out in Portugal with 530 valid answers. Structural Equation Modelling Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) was used to evaluate the model. A t-test was applied to identify differences between men and women. The results show that ecological concern, environmental attitude, environmental behavior and purchase intention are good predictors of green purchase behavior. Women scored higher than men on all variables, meaning that they are indeed superior environmentalists than men. Green purchase behavior is strongly influenced by both purchase intention and environmental behavior, so green brands should focus on targeting individuals that already take some actions in what concerns the environment, or to those who intend to do so.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Halting seagrass loss to protect tourism in the Ria Formosa
Strategic fit between innovation strategies and supply chain strategies: a conceptual study
Considering the importance of innovation and supply chain (SC) management for firms’ competitiveness and the growing interest for the relationship between these two areas, this conceptual paper aims to answer the following research question: how does the fit between the different innovation strategies and SC strategies influence business performance? A literature review was conducted as the basis for developing a conceptual framework, using the principles of resource-based view and contingency theory. Different
innovation and SC strategies are studied and discussed with respect to the expected effects of fit on business performance. Five propositions and a conceptual framework are presented showing the complexity of the relationship between both strategies. The conceptual model put forward helps to advance research in the area allowing for an interrelationship between innovation and SC strategies, something that has not been adequately researched, and provides insights for managers who are seeking substantive improvement of business performance.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
The social as the heart of social innovation and social entrepreneurship: An emerging area or an old crossroads?
This paper aims to contribute to the conceptual debate on the connection between social innovation and social entrepreneurship, considering the role of the ‘social’ within this
connection. Supported by a systematic literature review (SLR) with an in-depth analysis of
34 articles from Scopus-indexed and Web of Science databases journals, this paper identifies,
analyzes and describes the difficulties and opportunities in the social innovation and
social entrepreneurship literature. Little is known about the link between both concepts
and the influence of the ‘social’ in their development and implementation. This SLR was
conducted to identify and describe definitions and patterns. Results show that the
connection between social innovation and social entrepreneurship is in its take-off phase,
but it still is a fragmented field with a huge lack of consensus. Thus, it will be important to
see where the field will head, as this paper aims to be a first step in the understanding of
social innovation and social entrepreneurship through a collective and integrated
perspective, providing an elucidation of the different perspectives of the literature.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Competitiveness framework to support regional-level decision-making in the wine industry: a systematic literature review
This study aims to identify the main performance indicators and group them in dimensions within a regional competitiveness framework to support decisionmaking in the wine industry. For this research, a systematic literature review (SLR) was conducted in the Scopus database. There is a limited number of studies identifying indicators with impact on the performance of wine regions, and even fewer studies including indicators in an integrated approach to measure the different dimensions of wine regions’ performance. From a set of 85 papers, only 9 studies related to performance indicators with a specific focus on the regional level were considered. We document that under a convention framework, economic and territorial indicators cover 84.90% of all SLR indicators analysed, and under a regional competitiveness framework, infrastructure and innovation and intellectual capital indicators fill 81.25% of all the indicators. As this group of indicators is limited to a set of sub-dimensions, we found that several groups of indicators are misrepresented, such as the ones related to
human and socio-cultural capital areas, which play a crucial role in the regional competitiveness
of the wine industry. This paper contributes to the literature identifying indicators according to convention and regional competitiveness frameworks in three dimensions – economic, environmental and territorial dimensions and five main areas – productive capital, human capital, socio-cultural capital, infrastructure and intellectual capital. These indicators are to be used at regional-level to support decision-making in the wine industry. For regional entities, it discloses the most pertinent indicators which need improvement to craft regional strategies. This framework is of added value for policymakers to customize their support programmes so that specific producers can enhance their competitive strategies. It could also be deployed in teaching programmes as a tool to address the importance of aligning different types of indicators to
achieve better performance in the wine industry.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Exploring the meaning of social innovation: a categorisation scheme based on the level of policy intervention, profit orientation and geographical scale
There has been a growing interest in academia regarding the term ‘social innovation’, including in disciplines such as sociology, administration, history, management, psychology, and economics. The literature highlights the lack of scientific clarity in the use of the term, and some scholars argue that the term is no more than a ‘buzzword’ or a ‘fad’. This article focusses on the analysis of the conceptualizations of social innovation, contrasting sociological and economical approaches, and adopts an integrative approach to propose a categorization scheme of social innovation projects based on three distinct variables, namely the level of policy support, the profit orientation and the geographical scale. We argue that government support and the scalability of social innovations should be carefully pondered depending on the characteristics of the social innovation initiatives. We conclude that policy support should privilege social innovation initiatives that, while having the potential to deliver social good, are constrained by market failures. In addition, we also argue in favour of policy support for small bottom-up initiatives that have a profit-logic but are not sufficiently robust to survive on their own due to the liabilities of smallness and newness.
Finally, we advise caution in public policies supporting scale-up strategies and highlighted the inherent challenges.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
