E o mundo avança: a missão de internacionalização acadêmica

    No full text

The impact of supply chain fit on business and innovation performance in Brazilian companies

    No full text
Purpose – This paper investigates the effect of the fit between supply and demand uncertainty (SDU) and supply chain responsiveness (SCR) (SC fit) on business and innovation performance in Brazilian companies. Design/methodology/approach – The study presented an analysis carried out on an empirical study based on a sample of 150 manufacturing companies. Business and innovation performance of companies with different types of SC fit ( high–high and low–low fits) and misfit (positive and negative) are compared and discussed. Findings – The results indicated that SC fit had a positive effect on both business and innovation performance. Further analyses suggested that companies with SC fit present similar business performance, independent of the level of SDU that characterizes the environment where they compete, while companies in environments with higher levels of uncertainty tend to present superior innovation performance. Companies with positive and negative misfit present similar performance. Originality/value – An analysis of the literature showed that there is no consensus when it comes to the definitions and measurements of SC fit. The paper investigates the effects of SC fit on business and innovation performance, while previous empirical studies have mainly addressed its impact on financial performance. Moreover, this study compares the effects of two types of fit and two types of misfit and assesses SC fit in Brazilian manufacturing companies, analyzing the context of an under-researched reality. This work is financed by National Funds through the Portuguese funding agency, FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, within project UIDB/50014/2020.

    No full text
Human development constitutes as a categorical imperative of humanity in all its manifestations and existential dimensions, like the economy, politics, environment, culture, science, and religion. Such urgency and relevance becomes relevant especially if we take into account the requirements of a development that is sustainable. The requirements of sustainable development are well reflected in the multiplicity of its leading axes in the following dimensions: environmental, social, economic, cultural and political-institutional. The Social Ministry in its mission and vision is in this context of responding to the challenges of sustainability and social development, particularly in its specificity to transform societies in places of cohesion, harmony and inclusion, with the reduction of inequalities and social exclusion. Here lies the challenge of awareness of social pastoral agents with regard to social responsibility and education for sustainable development, which is our fundamental proposal, implementing more systematic manner in Small Christian Communities (SCC). Our studywill havemoments ofliterature, meeting thesecondary sources, consultation and detailed studyof official documents andstatisticsindocumentary researchphase The inductive perspective that we print in our study will lead us to ethnographic research, searching multiple sources of information, data and evidence, through the respective techniques, according to the requirements and procedures. This style of “research on- site " , will enable us to be more immersed in the life of Lubango Archdiocese and Huila Province itself, which constitute the subject matter of our thesis and print objectivity before subjectivism risks. Social pastoral is the means by which the Church, in her social responsibility, reaches out to those who are on the fringe of the journey, those who have no voice in the process of development with all its challenges of sustainability. In the present work, mainly in its second part, we note that the Archdiocese of Lubango has been and is taking steps in the transformation of society, that is, it has developed a work not only ad intra but also ad extra. We must mention here, as an example, the work that the missionary schools, the Medium and Major Seminars do in training qualified staff in Angola and beyond. In the Interview with the Ordinary of the Current Place, namely the Archbishop Dom Gabriel Mbilingi and in the empirical approach with PROMAICA of the Cathedral and of Nossa Senhora das Dores/Missão do Lubango and the School of the Immaculate Conception, it was illustrated how this local Church participates in the great task of serving men and women without seeing their ideology, color, tribe even their religious confession. As a result, we can guarantee that the Catholic Church is in fact a privileged partner of the Government of Angola

Involving suppliers in collaborative new product development: comparing large and small firms

    No full text
The main purpose of this article is to investigate early supplier involvement (ESI) in collaborative new product development (CNPD). For that a comparative study between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and large firms was implemented according to the generated innovation. It is based on an exploratory approach, based on case studies involving four firms that involve their suppliers in CNPD. Results show that ESI in CNPD takes place when large firms seek to differentiate their products and SMEs aim to increase their efficiency. The paper further shows the radical innovation promotes ESI in CNPD, both regarding SMEs and large firms. This study contributes to the body knowledge regarding the influence of radical innovation in early supplier involvement in CNPD, by adding a comparative perspective between SMEs and large firms.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Competitive dynamics of strategic groups in the Portuguese banking industry

    No full text
2014–2016), by taking into account the financial and economic assistance programme (FEAP) – monitored by the European Commission, the European Central Bank and the International Monetary Fund – that Portugal went through and that started in 2011. With competitive dynamics it is possible to understand the evolution of competitive strategies of the institutions of a strategic group within a given time horizon. Data were collected after consultation of reports and accounts of Banks from Banco de Portugal database. The results were analysed and discussed in light of the theory of strategic groups and their competitive dynamics allows us to conclude that: Banks implemented different competitive strategies; Strategic groups have dissimilar resources; and Strategic groups display different strategies. The 2008–2010 period can be considered as a ‘deregulated’ period, the 2011–2013 as a period of ‘imposed regulation’, and the 2014–2016 as a period of ‘strategic consolidation’ with strategic changes that have prompted strategic groupings of the various institutions as consequence of a low mobility barrier strategy. The authors were supported by the Research Unit GOVCOPP and Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), through the Center for Research and Development in Mathematics and Applications (CIDMA), within project UID/MAT/04106/2019.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Integrating prey monitoring and stable isotope analysis to assess the diet of Octopus vulgaris in Portuguese coastal water

    No full text
This study explores the feeding ecology of Octopus vulgaris in the Cascais region through a combined approach of long-term prey monitoring and stable isotope analysis. Over several months, we worked with local fishermen to observe and record prey items found in octopus pots and those carried by octopuses at the time of capture. These field observations enabled the identification of key prey species, which were subsequently analysed isotopically to estimate their contribution to the octopus diet. The results show that Atrina fragilis is the main prey, making up about 70 %, followed by Polybius henslowii (18 %), with Cymbium olla and Cepola macrophthalma contributing smaller amounts. Our findings highlight the limitations of traditional stomach content analysis, which often underestimates soft-bodied or highly digested prey, and emphasise the importance of isotopic methods to provide a more comprehensive and long-term view of trophic interactions. This integrated approach enhances our understanding of O. vulgaris feeding strategies and has significant implications for ecological research and the sustainable management of fisheries in the region.Marine and Environmental Research Centre (MARE) doi:10.54499/UIDB/04292/2020 and Associated Laboratory Aquatic Research Network (ARNET) doi:10.5 4499/LA/P/0069/202
