Relationships between universities and enterprises: the perspective of small and medium-sized firms
No full textThe university-enterprise (U-E) relationship is a topic that has gathered much interest in the academic world. Universities seek to offer services and technology that help firms to build and foster a harmonious U-E relationship, allowing firms to continually renew their involvement in the relationship. This chapter seeks to analyze the role played by various factors—satisfaction, commitment as perceived by firms, perceived commitment by universities, trust, and reputation—in encouraging firms to continuously renew their involvement in the university relationship. A questionnaire was produced drawing on a literature review looking at U-E relationships, the results of which were then analyzed using partial least squares – structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM). Afyer analyzing 80 responses from firms involved in U-E relationships, it was possible to conclude that commitment of firms, reputation, and the perceived commitment of the universities are very important in the continuous participation of firms in U-E relationships.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The intellectual structure of the relationship between innovation and supply chain management
No full textInnovation is recognised as an important source of competitive advantage by both academics and managers. Nowadays, supply chain partners play a crucial part in driving many aspects of innovation, from the definition of the product concept to the launch to the market. This chapter analyzes how the relationship between supply chain management and the innovation process is addressed in the literature and discuss ways to improve the performance by means of this relationship. A bibliometric analysis—including citation and co-citation analysis—is carried out to study the intellectual structure of the topic. No full textEste capítulo traça percursos da ação coletiva de Afro-descendentes em Portugal, desde meados da década de 1970 até ao presente, atendendo aos contextos sociais e políticos que moldam a sua atuação e identificando reivindicações, discursos e práticas. Procuro contar uma história coletiva construída sobre muitas histórias que precisam de ser descobertas e partilhadas, como forma de confrontar o silêncio e a negação do racismo em Portugal. Histórias que permitem o reconhecimento da ação política dos Afro-descendentes, sobretudo os seus contributos para os direitos humanos e para a democracia em Portugal.This chapter traces a history of collective action by Afro-descendants in Portugal, from the mid-1970s to the present, paying attention to the social and political contexts that frame agency and identifying claims, discourses, and practices. I seek to tell a collective story built on many stories that need to be uncovered and shared, as a way of confronting the silence and denial about racism in Portugal. This enables the recognition of the political agency of Afro-descendants, most importantly their contributions to human rights and democracy in Portugal

No full textDissertação de Mestrado em Gestão da Informação e Bibliotecas Escolares, apresentada à Universidade AbertaNo presente trabalho efetuou-se uma abordagem analítica e reflexiva dos nexos de causalidade entre a dimensão holística que o conceito de Educação granjeou ao longo dos tempos e as diversas reestruturações educativas que têm transcorrido no cenário português. Nessa prossecução e contexto, elencou-se a alteração de atribuições das Bibliotecas Escolares no contexto dos processos de ensino e de aprendizagem, por forma a contribuir para o entendimento dos mecanismos que têm estado na base dessa mesma alteração e para a sua renovação/evolução, incrementando, por conseguinte, o dinamismo do contributo das Bibliotecas Escolares para a construção do conhecimento dos seus utilizadores.
O presente estudo focado nas Bibliotecas Escolares e no seu papel dentro do contexto educacional, enquadra-se e justifica-se, uma vez que tem expressão e representação nas grandes áreas temáticas da Educação, enquanto instrumentos de desenvolvimento da educação formal e informal e das literacias digital e informacional.
Nesta prossecução, foi desenvolvida uma investigação na qual se procedeu à identificação das competências e atribuições imputadas às Bibliotecas Escolares a par das várias reestruturações educativas implementadas no sistema de ensino português, alavancadas pela alteração conceptual da Educação e efetuando a sua vinculação ao contexto temporal e historiográfico. Para a efetivação do presente estudo foram traçados objetivos específicos que permitiram dar resposta à questão base da investigação e perquirições afiliadas.
O estudo empírico foi desenvolvido recorrendo a uma metodologia mista, de natureza qualitativa e quantitativa, privilegiando como instrumento de recolha de dados a análise documental, consubstanciada na avaliação crítica dos seus conteúdos, como método para a análise dos dados.The present work carries out an analytical and reflective approach to the causal links between the holistic dimension that the concept of Education has gained over time and the various educational restructurings that have taken place in the Portuguese scenario. In this pursuit and context, was listed the change in the attributions of the School Libraries in the context of the teaching and learning processes, in order to contribute to the understanding of the mechanisms that have been at the base of this change and to their renewal/evolution thus increasing the dynamism of the contribution of School Libraries for the construction of knowledge of its users.
The present study, focused on School Libraries and their role within the educational context, fits and is justified, since it has expression and representation in the major thematic areas of Education, as instruments for the development of formal and informal education and digital and informational literacies.
In this pursuit, an investigation was carried out in which the School Libraries skills and attributions were identified, along with the various educational restructurings implemented in the Portuguese education system, leveraged by the conceptual change in Education and linking them to the temporal and historiographical context. For the accomplishment of the present study, specific objectives were outlined that allowed answering the basic question of the investigation and affiliated inquiries.
The empirical study was developed using a mixed methodology, of a qualitative and quantitative nature, privileging document analysis as a data collection instrument, embodied in the critical evaluation of its contents, as a method for data analysis
Export performance and the internationalisation of SMEs
No full textThis paper proposes a conceptual model that analyses the factors influencing the export performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and integrates international entrepreneurship theory and international strategies. Rooted in an extensive bibliography that provides the basis for key constructs, the proposed model brings together the fundamentals of SMEs’ internationalisation processes that influence these enterprises’ export performance. The model highlights three important factors: industry-,
environment- and firm-related aspects affecting firms’ entrepreneurial orientation. The model contributes to a better understanding of the key factors affecting the export performance of SMEs, providing a simple structure that can be strategically used by entrepreneurs when launching their firms into international markets. Processos de construções identitárias em contextos atuais e fronteiriços: um estudo etnográfico sobre as manifestações culturais e artísticas do Campo de Gibraltar
No full textTese de Doutoramento em Relações Interculturais, apresentada à Universidade AbertaA compreensão dos processos de construção identitária exige uma perspetiva situada, capaz de articular os contextos históricos, sociais e simbólicos que se manifestam nas experiências individuais e coletivas. Situado no sul de Espanha, o Campo de Gibraltar constitui um espaço de contrastes, cuja dinâmica reflete a sua condição de território transfronteiriço e coloca a região num processo contínuo de reconfiguração, no qual se entrelaçam tradição e modernidade, tensões fronteiriças e interações sociais.
Considerando o carácter plural da região – moldado pela influência do território britânico de Gibraltar e pelos costumes enraizados na cultura andaluza –, procedeu-se à análise das manifestações culturais e artísticas mais representativas das localidades mais permeadas pelas dinâmicas fronteiriças, nomeadamente: Los Barrios, São Roque, Algeciras e La Línea. Mediante uma abordagem qualitativa e um estudo etnográfico, procurou-se compreender de que modo valores, crenças e práticas simbólicas produzem significados partilhados e reforçam os laços identitários coletivos.
Os resultados evidenciam a existência de uma identidade comum campogibraltarina, sustentada pela presença das instituições locais na preservação das suas festividades mais significativas – tanto religiosas como profanas – e de expressões artísticas de matriz andaluza, como o flamenco. Esta dinâmica garante não apenas a salvaguarda da memória coletiva, como sua renovação geracional. Tais manifestações consolidam o imaginário coletivo e promovem uma idiossincrasia localizada. Esta condição liminar, situada entre o pertencimento e a deslocação, confere à região um carácter híbrido e relacional, em que as fronteiras deixam de representar uma mera separação e assumem-se como pontes simbólicas entre mundos culturais distintos.Understanding the processes of identity construction requires a situated perspective capable of articulating the historical, social, and symbolic contexts manifested in individual and collective experiences. Located in southern Spain, the Campo de Gibraltar constitutes a space of contrasts whose dynamics reflect its condition as a cross-border territory, placing the region in a continuous process of reconfiguration in which tradition and modernity, border tensions, and social interactions intertwine.
Considering the plural character of the region – shaped by the influence of the British territory of Gibraltar and by customs deeply rooted in Andalusian culture – this study analyses the most representative cultural and artistic manifestations of the localities most permeated by border dynamics, namely Los Barrios, San Roque, Algeciras, and La Línea. Through a qualitative approach and an ethnographic study, the research seeks to understand how values, beliefs, and symbolic practices produce shared meanings and reinforce collective identity bonds.
The findings reveal the existence of a shared campogibraltarino identity, sustained by the role of local institutions in preserving its most significant festivities – both religious and profane– as well as Andalusian-rooted artistic expressions such as flamenco. This dynamic ensures not only the safeguarding of collective memory but also its generational renewal. Such manifestations consolidate the collective imaginary by promoting a localized idiosyncrasy. This liminal condition, situated between belonging and displacement, endows the region with a hybrid and relational character, in which borders cease to represent mere separation and instead emerge as symbolic bridges between distinct cultural worlds

No full textTese Doutoramento em Estudos Globais em parceria com a Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas (FCSH-NOVA), apresentada à Universidade AbertaEsta tese de doutoramento reconstrói a trajetória de Joana de Trastámara (1462-1530), cognominada a “Excelente Senhora” ou “la Beltraneja”, através de uma investigação multi- e interdisciplinar ancorada em dois campos convergentes: História e História da Arte. Partindo de uma análise comparada das crónicas castelhanas e portuguesas, o trabalho problematiza as estratégias de legitimação e deslegitimação que marcaram a disputa sucessória após a morte de Henrique IV, detalhando a atuação de Joana, de Isabel a Católica e de D. Afonso V ao longo da guerra de 1474-1479 e dos tratados de Alcáçovas-Toledo e das Terçarias de Moura. Paralelamente, mobiliza metodologias da História da Arte para examinar os artefactos visuais – arquitetura palatina, numismática, manuscritos iluminados, genealogias figuradas e patronato conventual – que serviram de propaganda à causa de Joana e moldaram a memória iconográfica da princesa até ao romantismo oitocentista.
Os capítulos centrais articulam fontes escritas, objetos e espaços, iluminando a casa institucional de Joana, os seus testamentos, os itinerários peninsulares, os projetos matrimoniais falhados, bem como a profissão como clarissa no mosteiro de Santa Clara, em Coimbra. O cruzamento de fontes coevas sejam elas crónicas ou documentos avulsos e iconográficos permitiu-nos demonstrar como a Joana de Trastámara, embora derrotada, foi agentiva na construção da sua própria imagem e no diálogo artístico luso-castelhano pelos finais do século XV e que perdurou até meados do século XVI.
Ao reunirmos a crítica documental e análise aturada à estética arquitetónica e pictórica, a tese oferece a primeira síntese que integra, de forma equilibrada, problemáticas historiográficas e visuais, contribuindo para o reavaliar do poder feminino na transição do medievo para a modernidade ibérica e enriquecendo o diálogo internacional sobre dinastias ibéricas contemporâneas.This doctoral thesis reconstructs the trajectory of Joanna of Trastámara (1462–1530), nicknamed the “Excellent Lady” or “La Beltraneja”, through a multi- and interdisciplinary enquiry anchored in two convergent fields: History and Art History. Beginning with a comparative analysis of Castilian and Portuguese chronicles, the study problematises the strategies of legitimation and delegitimation that shaped the succession struggle after the death of Henry IV, detailing the roles played by Joanna, Isabella the Catholic and King Afonso V during the war of 1474–1479 and in the Treaties of Alcáçovas-Toledo and the Terçarias de Moura. In parallel, it deploys art-historical methodologies to examine the visual artefacts palatine architecture, numismatics, illuminated manuscripts, figural genealogies and conventual patronage used as propaganda for Joanna’s cause and to fashion her iconographic memory up to the Romantic revival of the nineteenth century.
The central chapters interweave written sources, objects and spaces, illuminating Joanna’s institutional household, her wills, her peninsular itineraries, abortive marriage projects, and her profession as a Poor Clare in the Convent of Santa Clara, Coimbra. The intersection of contemporary evidence chronicles, miscellaneous documents and iconography demonstrates how Joanna of Trastámara, though ultimately defeated, actively shaped her own image and fostered Luso-Castilian artistic dialogue at the close of the fifteenth century, a dynamic that endured until the mid-sixteenth century.
By uniting rigorous documentary criticism with close analysis of architectural and pictorial aesthetics, the thesis offers the first synthesis that integrates historiographical and visual questions in balanced fashion, reassessing female power in the transition from the medieval to the early-modern Iberian world and enriching the international conversation on contemporary Iberian dynasties
