Copyright © 2025 Pascoal, Andersson, Fischer, Manão, Oliveira, Raposo, Rosa, Roberto, Santos, Tomada and Giraldi.Introduction: Sexual distress is interrelated with mental health and relationship quality and is fundamental for establishing a diagnosis of sexual dysfunction, even though it also affects people who do not seek professional clinical help. Research on sexual distress related to partnered sexual activity is limited, and no comprehensive model exists to guide research or clinical interventions. We conducted an online cross-sectional qualitative study to: 1) explore the reasons why people experiencing sexual distress in partnered face-to-face sexual activity do not seek professional clinical help; 2) analyze the experiences of participants’ of sexual distress in partnered sexual activity; 3) reflexively compare the experiences reported by participants who seek and do not seek professional help; and 4) reflexively compare experiences across genders. Methods: We performed reflexive thematic analysis on 438 heterosexual people answers (Mage = 41.06, SD = 12.19), including 306 women (69.7%) and 132 men (30.1%). Results: Most participants (54.1%) had not sought professional clinical help but wanted to do so. Some participants (13.2%) expressed a desire for clinical consultations but reported financial or time constraints. Using the reflexive thematic analysis on the qualitative data provided, we created three themes: (1) Sexual (dys)function (It’s the function), which focuses on sexual function and lack of pleasure; (2) Intimacy dynamics (It’s us!), which discusses relationship challenges; (3) Intrapersonal struggles (It’s me!), which highlight individual factors, some influenced by social messages. Comparison across groups revealed that people who sought professional clinical help emphasise genital function and negative emotions, and women highlighted experiencing sexual pain, while men emphasised desire discrepancies and erectile disorder. Discussion: Our results demonstrate that difficulties related to sexual pleasure and with penetrative sex are important sources of distress in partnered sexual activity, which is in line with DSM and ICD frameworks of sexual dysfunction. Participants’ accounts show that pre-existing psychological characteristics, partnered communication, cognitive, and emotional factors are key factors to shape the experience of sexual distress related to sexual dysfunctions. This has implications for clinical work as interventions should target transdiagnostic individual factors that may not be sexual specific (e.g., repetitive negative thinking) as well as couple-level factors (e.g., communication). Internet-based integrative therapies directed at these factors may be a promising venue for those who experience sexual distress with partnered sexual activity and are reluctant to seek in-person sexual healthcare. The author(s) declare that financial support was received for the research and/or publication of this article. The pedagogical internship allows for reflection and confrontation with reality, representing the decisions made and the results obtained throughout the year. In the field of teaching, the methodologies and strategies adopted by the teacher aim to optimize the learning process, making it more efficient. One of the problems identified was the lack of commitment and attitude towards tasks; hence the theme of the project: "The Importance of Competition and How It Influences Practice in Physical Education Didactics." Regarding the Class Management, according to class meetings and discussions with the director, it was observed that students had various psychological issues. This observation led to the theme "Impact of Physical Activity on Children's Mental Health." In School Sports, the capacity for adaptation was deepened, according to student participation. The project was determined considering the reduced number of participants, which led to the theme "Analysis of the Reasons for Participation in School Sports." The implementation of the Full-Time Teacher project allowed for teaching different students, of varying ages, and in classes with their own specificities. The Field Trip, within the theme "50 Years of April 25th," was an important moment for both the interns and the students in terms of inclusive, eclectic, and multilateral development. In the Seminar, there was a search to address a specific topic that could raise awareness among teachers, which led to the choice of the theme "Teaching Skating: Technical and Safety Issues."The pedagogical internship allows for reflection and confrontation with reality, representing the decisions made and the results obtained throughout the year. Publisher Copyright: © 2025 by the authors. This study analyses the digital communication strategies of the radical right parties VOX (Spain) and Chega (Portugal) on the social media platforms X, Instagram, and TikTok during the electoral periods. Using a comparative content analysis with quantitative and qualitative approaches, the research reveals that both parties employ a populist discourse marked by confrontation with the political elite and the use of emotional appeals to mobilize their followers. VOX directs its attacks at the left and the Spanish Prime Minister, while Chega emphasizes criticism of the political system as a whole. The results show that polarization and the evocation of emotions such as indignation, pride, and hope are central strategies in their posts. Furthermore, messages with strong emotional charge and audiovisual elements generate a greater impact, especially on TikTok and Instagram, where virality is significantly higher than on X. The study concludes that the communication strategies of these parties are based on ‘data populism’, where interaction and visibility on social media reinforce their political narratives and consolidate their base of support

This pedagogical internship was carried out at Escola Básica 2,3 Padre Francisco Soares, part of the Madeira Torres School Group, during the 2023/2024 school year. Throughout this internship report, the four main areas are covered (Teaching, Class Management, School Sports and Seminar). In the area of Teaching, strategies were related and applied to develop and resolve the difficulties presented by the class. These were explored throughout the academic year, as well as with the introduction of the project “Conducting the Football Ball”, applied to develop skills in technical gestures in the field of Football and encourage cooperative work. In the area of Class Management, it is explained all the support to the class director in Citizenship classes and bureaucratic work in all areas of class council meetings and with those in charge of education, directing the project in this area “I am what I eat, the benefits and harms of my diet, combined with physical activity” for the importance of a healthy diet and its benefits associated with physical activity. The Field Trip was an activity that culminated in the transfer of knowledge to a different practice associated with the practice of physical activity outside the context, interdisciplinarity and cooperative work. In the area of School Sports, the knowledge of Volleyball was intensified and contributed to the development of the athletes' technical-tactical skills through the project “The underhand service and the movements towards the ball's drop point, working to develop the skills of students". In the Seminar area, an investigation was developed with the aim of acting on the problems identified in the internship class and through the responses to the interview carried out with teachers from the Physical Education Sub-Department, associated with the theme “The relationship with the Soccer ball from the 5th to the 10th year of education”

    No full text
Pregnancy length is a critical aspect in reproductive management, influencing not only the maternal health, but also litter viability. Understanding the factors influencing pregnancy length is imperative for effective reproductive management. Pregnancy length is generally consistent within species, yet various inherent factors related to reproductive processes, the dam and the litter can influence it. The present study aimed to determine whether variables such as breed, maternal size, maternal age, parity, semen type, insemination method and litter size influence the gestational period in dogs. To achieve this, clinical data from 81 bitches from 23 different breeds were collected, organized and subjected to statistical analysis. From the statistical analysis of the sample, the breed was found to significantly influence pregnancy length, with the Flat Coated Retriever breed exhibiting a longer gestational period compared to other breeds such as Bullmastiff and Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. Maternal age did not prove to be a relevant factor, consistent with previous studies. Additionally, litters with only one puppy were observed to have longer pregnancies. Conversely, there was no evidence found that maternal size, parity, semen type, or insemination method influence the gestational duration, in contradiction to some prior conclusions in the literature

Introduction: This dissertation had two objectives: to carry out a rapid systematic review of the literature, which analyzed the relationship between lifestyle and physical fitness in young athletes; and carry out a cross-sectional observational study to analyze the relationship between lifestyle and physical fitness in young volleyball athletes between 14 and 17 years old. Method: The Pubmed database was used in the systematic review. In total, nine studies met the pre-defined inclusion and exclusion criteria. The cross-sectional study included 31 athletes from the Lusófona Volleyball Club, from the cadet and youth categories, with a mean age of 15.84±0.81 years. Result: The systematic review found that even among young athletes, less than 30% meet the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendations for physical activity of moderate to vigorous intensity. In the cross-sectional study, there was a significant association between the muscular component and screen time on the weekend. Conclusion: Participation in organized sports is positively associated with physical fitness. While most athletes meet WHO physical activity recommendations, this is not the case for other components of their lifestyle, namely sleep and screen time

Publisher Copyright: © 2025 by the authors. Licensee MDPI, Basel, Switzerland.Introduction: The main purpose of this study was to test a hierarchical model of motivation that integrates Achievement Goal Theory and Self-Determination Theory to explain and predict exercise adherence. Method: In total, 2180 exercisers (1020 female, 1160 male) aged between 18 and 60 years, from different gyms and health clubs, completed several scales validated in exercise settings, regarding perceived motivational climate, basic psychological need satisfaction, behavioral regulation, and exercise adherence. For the last measure, weekly computer access to a control system over a 6-month period before and after data collection was consulted. Results: Through structural equation models (SEM), it was verified that (1) task-involving climate positively predicted basic psychological needs. In turn, the satisfaction of these needs predicted autonomous motivation, which led to a positive prediction of adherence; (2) a small variation in exercise adherence was explained by the motivational model under analysis. Nevertheless, models significantly improved their analytical power when past adherence was inserted in the model increasing the explained variance in future behavior from 9.2% to 64%. Conclusions: In conclusion, autonomous motivation can predict people’s exercise adherence, and past behavior increases that predictive effect. The present study brings scientific evidence to the popular saying “tell me what you’ve done and, and I’ll predict what you’ll do”.This work was funded by National Funds by FCT—Foundation for Science and Technology under the following project UID/04045: Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences, and Human Development

Osteoarthritis is one of the most common pathological conditions in dogs, characterized by a progressive degeneration of the joints that leads to a decrease in the animal's quality of life. Its diagnosis is obtained through anamnesis, physical examination, orthopedic and neurological assessments, as well as imaging tests. Osteoarthritis is a complex, chronic condition for which there is no definitive cure. Treatment is based on a multimodal therapeutic approach, with the primary objective of improving the quality of life. Ozone therapy has been increasingly used in integrative veterinary medicine due to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, analgesic and immunomodulatory properties. This treatment offers therapeutic benefits without side effects, promoting an improvement in in the quality of life of patients. The present study aimed to report the results obtained from three clinical cases observed during the internship period, where ozone therapy was used as a therapeutic modality. It was administered subcutaneously, intramuscularly and paravertebrally. The results demonstrated a significant reduction in osteoarticular pain levels after the ozone therapy sessions, demonstrating its effectiveness as a complementary therapeutic option in the management of osteoarticular pain in dogs

    No full text
Publisher Copyright: © 2025 ALIES. All rights reserved. In: Biomedical and biopharmaceutical research : jornal de investigação biomédica e biofarmacêutica.Diabetes mellitus (DM) is the second most common endocrine disease reported for the domestic cat, following hyperthyroidism. DM has a significant impact on the welfare of affected animals and their domestic environment. It is estimated that 30% of affected cats are euthanized within the first year after diagnosis, which reveals the profound impact of this disease on the quality of life and well-being of animals and owners. Hence, the search for early biomarkers of prediabetes or subclinical diabetes, although needed, has not been fully achieved. This scoping review was assembled from an online search in major scientific databases, from which a total of 681 articles were chosen. From this pool, twenty-three articles aligned with the study objectives and were included in the review. Levels of fasting blood glucose, fructosamine, triglycerides, albumin, and insulin have been identified in the literature as parameters reflecting an altered glucose metabolism, while predisposal risk factors for cats also exist. However, a practical and rigorous early diagnostic tool with markers and methods to enable early detection of prediabetes is not yet available
