    Master track of ALKOR cruise AL632 in 1 sec resolution (zipped, 45 MB)

    Raw data acquired by position sensors on board RV Alkor during expedition AL632 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. During AL632 data from the Seapath 330 system, the Furuno GP-170 and the Furuno GP-150 GPS receivers were used to calculate the mastertrack. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (http://dship.bsh.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processing and evaluation of the data is outlined in the data processing report. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution derived from the position sensors' data selected by priority and a generalized track with a reduced set of the most significant positions of the master track

    Carbonate chemistry from a long-term (12-months) multiple driver aquarium experiment with the cold-water coral Desmophyllum pertusum

    We conducted a long-term (12 months) multiple driver aquarium experiment under future environmental conditions at St Abbs Marine Station (UK) with the cold-water coral Lophelia pertusa (syn. Desmophyllum pertusum) sampled from Tisler Reef (Skagerrak). The experiment consisted of four different treatments to investigate the combined effect of ocean acidification, warming, deoxygenation and food limitation on their physiology: 1) control (9 °C, pH 8.1, 100 % oxygen, 100 % food availability), 2) multiple stressor with high feeding (HF; 12 °C, pH 7.7, 90 % oxygen, 100 % food availability), 3) multiple stressor with low feeding (LF; 12 °C, pH 7.7, 90 % oxygen, 50 % food availability) and 4) reduced oxygen (9 °C, pH 8.1, 90 % oxygen, 100 % food availability). Every treatment consisted of three replicate tanks with four live corals (12 in total). Water parameters (temperature, salinity, pH and oxygen concentration) were measured five times per week in every coral tank. Total alkalinity (TA) samples were taken from every coral tank biweekly in order to determine the whole carbonate system using the programme CO2SYS (Pierrot et al., 2006) to calculate carbonate chemistry from measured TA and pHT according to Hoppe et al. (2012) with the dissociation constants of carbonic acid in seawater (K1 and K2) from Lueker et al. (2000), the dissociation constants of hydrogen sulphate from Dickson (1990) and boric acid from Uppström (1974) and pHT

    The AL561 cruise was conducted in the framework of the project APOC ("Anthropogenic impacts on Particulate Organic Carbon cycling in the North Sea"). This collaborative project between GEOMAR, AWI, HEREON, UHH, and BUND is to understand how particulate organic carbon (POC) cycling contributes to carbon sequestration in the North Sea and how this ecosystem service is compromised and interlinked with global change and a range of human pressures include fisheries (pelagic fisheries, bottom trawling), resource extraction (sand mining), sediment management (dredging and disposal of dredged sediments) and eutrophication. The main aim of the sampling activity during AL561 cruise was to recover undisturbed sediment from high accumulation sites in the Skagerrak/Kattegat and to subsample sediment/porewater at high resolution in order to investigate sedimentation transport processes, origin of sediment/POC and mineralization processes over the last 100- 200 years. Moreover, the actual processes of sedimentation and POC degradation in the water column and benthic layer will be addressed by sampling with CTD and Lander devices. In total 9 hydroacoustic surveys (59 profiles), 4 Gravity Corer, 7 Multicorer, 3 BIGO Lander and 3 CTD stations were successfully conducted during the AL561 cruise

    This dataset contains airborne radar data acquired using the AWI EMR system (Nixdorf et al., 1999) during the Arctic season of 2015. The profiles extend western DML over the Maud Belt and Ekström Ice Shelf to investigate the geodynamic evolution of East Antarctica, the Forster magnetic anomaly (GEA-V-FMA). The data are available as netCDF files (including waveforms and metadata), KML files of the profile line locations, and quicklook images of the radargrams

    Raw data acquired by position sensors on board RV MERIAN during expedition MSM139 were processed to receive a validated master track which can be used as reference of further expedition data. During MSM139 the motion reference unit Kongsberg SeaTex AS MRU-5 combined with Kongsberg SeaTex AS Seapath 320 and the GPS receivers Trimble SPS855 and SAAB R4 were used as navigation sensors. Data were downloaded from DAVIS SHIP data base (http://dship.bsh.de) with a resolution of 1 sec. Processing and evaluation of the data is outlined in the data processing report. Processed data are provided as a master track with 1 sec resolution derived from the position sensors' data selected by priority and a generalized track with a reduced set of the most significant positions of the master track
