Visual core description of IODP Hole 389-M0106A
Collection of visual core description (VCD) sheets (hand drawn originals) and digital lithostratigraphic logs from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs). VCD was performed on unsampled archive halves of split core sections directly after line scan imaging, during the onshore phase of expedition 389, which took place between 2025-02-06 to 2025-02-26 at the Bremen Core Repository (BCR) hosted at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen. The lithology of each core section is represented on the hand drawn VCDs by graphic patterns next to the line scan image of the archive-half core section. Further, a wide variety of features that characterize the sediment are indicated in additional columns. The information from the hand-drawn VCD sheets was then transferred into the mobile Drilling Information System database, from where it could be accessed semi-automated to produce digital lithologic columns using Strater 5 software (by Golden Software). The dataset is accompanied by a composite plot of core images acquired by optical line scanning. For the original images see corresponding data set 'Line scan images of IODP Hole 389-M00##'.

Hyperspectral data of individual slab samples from IODP Hole 389-M0102A
Hyperspectral data from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs) acquired by TheiaX GmbH during the onshore phase of the expedition, which was held between 2025-02-06 to 2025-02-26 at the Bremen Core Repository (BCR) hosted at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen. Acquisition of hyperspectral image data took place on all Archive halves and selected core slabs using a SisuROCK drill-core scanner (Spectral Imaging Ltd., Oulu, Finland) equipped with an AisaFENIX hyperspectral sensor to cover the visible and near-infrared (VNIR) as well as short-wave infrared (SWIR) regions of the electromagnetically spectrum. In addition to the routine scans of each core section, individual paleoclimate coral slab samples were scanned and spectral indices-based carbonate maps produced for each individual slab sample.

X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) of discrete samples from IODP Hole 389-M0102C
Results of X-Ray fluorescence (XRF) on discrete samples from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs). The offshore phase of this expedition took place between 2023-08-31 and 2023-10-31 onboard multipurpose vessel MMA Valour sailing from and to Barbers Point Harbor, Hawai'i, USA, followed by the onshore phase from 2025-02-06 to 2025-02-26 at the Bremen Core Repository (BCR) hosted at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen. During the onshore phase a set of solid-phase samples were taken from the work halves of core sections, with a volume of approx. 10 cubic centimeters each, were taken with the purpose to be later on split into aliquots for the following three analyses: X-ray diffraction, carbon and X-ray fluorescence. Bulk samples were subsequently freeze-dried, ground and homogenized to a fine powder (<20 µm particle size) by ECORD Science Operator staff using a pestle and an agate mortar or a ball mill. For elemental composition analyses an aliquot of approx. 4 g (±0.2 g) powdered and homogenized sample was weight into a plastic cuvette consisting of a Mylar foil bottom covered with polypropylene film ad compacted twice with a force of approx. 25 kg/cm3 on a plastic piston to obtain a smooth surface. Elemental concentrations were then determined by ED-XRF spectroscopy utilizing a PANalytical Epsilon 3-XLE benchtop ED-XRF spectrometer operated in the MARUM sediment geochemistry laboratory. Quality flag "#0" indicates the measurements' result was below detection limit.

Interstitial water geochemistry results of IODP Hole 389-M0102A
Results of interstitial water (IW) geochemistry analyses from the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs). The offshore phase of this expedition took place between 2023-08-31 and 2023-10-31 onboard multipurpose vessel MMA Valour sailing from and to Barbers Point Harbor, Hawai'i, USA, followed by the onshore phase from 2025-02-06 to 2025-02-26 at the Bremen Core Repository (BCR) hosted at MARUM – Center for Marine Environmental Sciences, University of Bremen. Sampling for IW geochemistry took place offshore immediately upon core recovery where soft sediments where recovered and using Rhizon samplers. The Rhizone samplers were left in the sediment for extraction of interstitial water for a minimum of 2 hours, aiming at drawing enough IW per sample from the core sections to fulfill the IODP standard IW sample splitting plan that included as many eight fractions. In addition to IW from the core sections, reference samples of the surface seawater (SSW) were collected (s. dataset "Surface seawater geochemistry results of IODP Expedition 389 (Hawaiian Drowned Reefs)"). Quality flag "#0" indicates the measurements' result was below detection limit.

Magnetic data of profile MSM122_P08-2 over the Oceanographer transform fault, North Atlantic, of MARIA S. MERIAN cruise MSM122
During the cruise MSM122 of the German research vessel MARIA S. MERIAN, we recorded densely spaced magnetic field measurement over the Oceanographer and Hayes transform faults in the North Atlantic to the Southwest of the Azores and hence at segment boundries offseting the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Additional data were recorded to the south of Hayes transform and on the transits to Halifax outside of any territorial water.
The total magnetic field was measured using two SeaSpy magnetometers which were towed at 350 m and 450 m, respectively, behind the stern of the ship, sampling the data continuously every 2 seconds. The ships navigation was corrected to match the position of the first magnetic sensor at 350 m behind the vessel. Uncorrected total field magnetic data are available in text/ascii format
