"To be a fully fledged drag queen and be straight is like crazy to me" : En multimodal kritisk diskursanalys om normer, maskulinitet och femininitet i RuPaul's Drag Race
The purpose of this study is to investigate what norms are prominent around the drag culture as well as how masculinity and femininity is represented in the fourteenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race (RPDR). This has been done with a multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA) where I have analysed the lexical choices as well as the visual attributes that contribute to the norms. I have applied Connells (2005) masculinity theory, Skeggs (2000) femininity theory and Duggans (2003) theory about homonormativity. The analysis has shown how RuPaul’s Drag Race represents a norm that drag queens are supposed to desire men rather than the norm of being a homosexual man, even though the norm of being a homosexual man still occurs. Furthermore the analysis has shown that the series reproduces a norm that one should strive to be thin as well as being young. Being old is something that should be hidden. In reference to how masculinity is depicted, the study has shown how the hegemonic masculinity is the homosexual one and how masculinity is done differently in the context of RuPaul’s Drag Race compared to life outside of the series. Lastly the study’s analysis has shown how the normative femininity is created in opposition to the deviant femininity by the drag queens appearance and behaviours.
Travelling through time in a process drama on plastic pollution – temporality in teaching about the complexity of wicked problems
The understanding of sustainability issues and preparedness to take action towards a sustainable future involves abilities to navigate between past, present, and future. This paper explores how the use of imaginary transitions in time – in the form of historying, and futuring in process drama – may afford student understanding of the wicked problem of plastics. The study draws on a design-based research study on process drama in upper-secondary school chemistry teaching which was conducted in collaboration with two teachers. During the process drama, the students and teachers travel in time to explore the uses of plastic; the motives and needs for using plastic as well as the consequences of plastic use in the form of plastic pollution today and in the future. The collected data consist of video- and audio recordings, which were analysed through qualitative content analysis that discerned how the students connected the temporalities, and which dimensions of the plastic problem were made visible in the temporal movements in the process drama. Our findings indicate that the temporal transitions made visible several dimensions of the plastic issue, and contributed to adding layers of complexity to the issue of plastics
Narrating the house : Space and Metafiction in "Dodecaedro" by Caio Fernando Abreu
Os principais textos teóricos utilizados para efetuar esta análise são Narratology: an introduction to theory of narrative, de Mieke Bal, e, Metafiction: The Theory and Practice of Self-Conscious Fiction, de Patricia Waugh. This thesis presents an analysis of Caio Fernando Abreu's novel Dodecaedro, which tells the story of twelve people who lock themselves inside a house because, supposedly, some mad dogs have been let loose outside. There is also a thirteenth voice, located outside the house, which comments on what is happening inside, oscillating between the roles of someone who was once part of the group inside the house and the creator of the narrative. The aim of this thesis is, through a narratological analysis, to verify how the notion of space is altered by metafictional aspects throughout the novel, based on a dialectic between outside and inside. As a result, I will also analyse the motives for fictionalisation, looking at metafiction as a tool for exploring certain themes, as well as the narratological aspects of the novel's structure. The main theoretical texts used to carry out this analysis are Narratology: an introduction to theory of narrative, by Mieke Bal, and Metafiction: The Theory and Practice of Self-Conscious Fiction, by Patricia Waugh.
Collecting Plants and Prints : Botanical Herbaria and literature among women in the Vasa dynasty circa 1550–1650
The Vasa dynasty’s attempts to manifest and legitimate their power through representative building, art collections, and other dynastic efforts are established facts within the research of early modern Swedish art history. As has been noted in previous research, these aspirations included efforts to introduce continental garden design through invitations renowned gardeners and architects. The kings Gustav I, Eric XIV, John III, and Karl IX are known to have cultivated gardens surrounding the palaces in Stockholm, Uppsala, Gripsholm, and Nyköpingshus, and invited gardeners from Germany and France to expand the horticultural knowledge in Sweden. However, gardening and interest in botany was not a solely male activity in the early modern period, nor in the Vasa family and the royal collections bear witness of this interest among the women around the throne. For example, Elisabet Vasa (1549–1597, daughter of Gustav I and Margareta Leijonhufvud) had a printed copy of Adam Lonitzer’s Kreuterbuch first printed in Frankfurtam Main in 1557 in her private library, and her niece Anna Vasa (1568–1625, daughter of Johan III and Catherine Jagiellon) held a medicinal interest in botany and financed the print of Simon Syrenius’ influential Herbarium (1613) in Poland. Later, queen Christina (1626–1689) incorporated volumes of Leonhard Rauwolf’s renowned herbaria with dried specimens, part of the war booty from Prague, into the royal collection. This paper therefore seeks to illuminate the botanical and horticultural interest—and in some casest heir direct contributions to the field—by women in the royal family circa 1550–1650 through sources in their libraries and collections and thereby put emphasis on cultural exchange relating to botany and garden culture between Sweden and the continent during the early modern period
Parental support and smoking in Swedish adolescents: Does this association differ by parental education? : A cross-sectional study in Stockholm
Background: Adolescent smoking is a persistent public health issue and parental involvement, and support are some important aspects that could alleviate health risk behaviors like smoking in adolescent children. This study investigates the association between parental support and adolescent smoking behaviour and the moderating effect of parental education on this relationship within a Swedish context. Methods: This cross-sectional quantitative study included 14,708 Swedish adolescent students in years 9 and 11 who participated Stockholm School Survey in 2024. Descriptive statistics, mean comparisons, and logistic regression were used to examine associations between parental support and adolescent smoking controlling for sociodemographic and family related variables. Interaction analysis assessed whether the association between parental support and smoking varied by parental education level. Results: The smoking prevalence was 8.8%. Smoking was more common among older students (year 11), girls, those from non-traditional families, and those with family members who smoked. Smokers reported lower parental support (mean 9.28, SD 2.55) than non-smokers (mean 9.89, SD 2.33) (p < 0.001). Higher parental support and lower parental education were associated with lower odds of smoking. Logistic regression showed that being in year 11, female gender, non-intact family structure, and family smoking were all associated with increased smoking risk, while parental support was protective (adjusted OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.89–0.93). Interaction analysis revealed no significant interaction between parental support and highest parental education level in relation to adolescent smoking (p = 0.51), indicating that the protective effect of parental support on smoking was consistent across parental education levels. Conclusion: This study reveals that parental support plays a key role in reducing adolescent smoking. Importantly, the protective effect of parental support does not differ by parental education level. Public health initiatives may focus on empowering parents with practical tools and support, reinforcing the message that their involvement is both welcome and effective, regardless of their educational background
The Market on Autopilot : Article 12 MAR in the light of artificial intelligence
Digitalisation has rapidly transformed society, not least the financial markets. As technology has developed, it has become easier than ever for individual investors to participate in the market. In many cases, a few clicks and a couple of minutes is enough to open an investment account and start trading. However, this added simplicity has opened new doors for market manipulation to take place. Simultaneously, artificial intelligence (AI) has become an integral part of modern financial markets, both as a tool for generating and disseminating information and as an autonomous trading agent. The EU Market Abuse Regulation (MAR) is largely constructed around the assumption that humans make trading decisions on the market, leading to new questions regarding manipulation being presented when machines enter the markets as well. This thesis examines to what extent the elements of Article 12 MAR can be understood and applied when market manipulation occurs through AI-generated information and AI-driven trading. The analysis shows that the wording of Article 12.1 a)-c) MAR is sufficiently broad and technologically neutral enough to cover behaviours generated by AI systems on both transaction-based and information-based side. However, AI challenges several underlying assumptions of the regulation. The speed, opacity and autonomy of AI systems make it more difficult to assess when signals are "misleading", to distinguish commercially motivated trading from manipulative behaviours, and to prove price impacts on the market. In particular, the traditional view of the reasonable investor and the idea of a functioning market integrity is strained in an environment where a substantial part of price formations result from interactions between systems rather than between humans. The thesis concludes that Article 12 MAR remains a viable framework for addressing market manipulation in an AI-driven environment, but that its effectiveness is conditional on how its key concepts are interpreted in light of new AI developments. In particular, the analysis highlights the issues of the continued use of a human reasonable investor in a market increasingly shaped by interactions between systems, as well as the tension between technologically neutral wording and human assumptions which are embedded in the regulation. These findings suggest that the main challenge is not that AI falls outside the scope of Article 12 MAR, but that the provision must be applied in a market structure that it was never fully designed to address
Business judgment rule och svenskt styrelseansvar : Balansen mellan handlingsfrihet och ansvar i styrelseorganet
This thesis examines the balance between managerial discretion and legal accountability in corporate governance through an analysis of the American business judgment rule (BJR) and the Swedish system of director liability under the aktiebolagslag (2005:551) (ABL). Using a doctrinal method with a functional comparative approach, the study investigates whether Swedish law already exhibits mechanisms analogous to the BJR and whether a formal introduction of a BJR-like rule would fit in the Swedish system. The analysis allows that while the BJR operates a procedural presumption that prevents judicial review of board decisions made in good faith, on an informed basis, and without conflicts of interest, Swedish law instead relies on a substantive negligence assessment under Chapter 29 ABL and the institutional mechanism of discharge from liability, ansvarsfrihetsinstitutet. Although Swedish courts demonstrate a restraint similar in effect to the BJR, this restraint is not rooted in a formal presumption but in a cautious application of the culpa-standard. Functionally, the Swedish discharge procedure creates a procedural barrier comparable to the BJR, albeit one vested in the general meeting rather than the courts. The thesis argues that the strongest convergence between the two systems emerges when comparing the exceptions to BJR, fraud, bad faith, loyalty breaches and corporate waste, with the exceptions to discharge under Chapter 29 Section 11 ABL. A de lege ferenda analysis suggests that incorporating explicit exceptions for fraud, disloyal conduct and waste-like transactions into Swedish law would achieve a functional alignment with the BJR without requiring a formal codification of the rule. Such a reform would refine the Swedish model by ensuring that discharge does not bar claims in situations where fundamental trust conditions are violated. Overall, the study concludes that Swedish law already provides substantial protection for informed and loyal business decisions and that the core differences between the systems are procedural and institutional rather than substantive. Both models ultimately seek to safeguard legitimate risk-taking while preserving mechanisms for accountability, reflecting different but converging corporate law cultures.
Monitoring Landslide Risk in Västra Götaland: Assessing Surface Deformation Using SBAS InSAR Time Series Analysis
This study evaluates the use of Small Baseline Subset (SBAS) InSAR for monitoring ground deformation in landslide-prone areas, with parts of Västra Götaland, Sweden, as a case study. The main objectives are to examine the detection and monitoring of surface displacement with SBAS-InSAR time-series analysis, to identify limitations of the method, and to determine its potential usefulness in improving landslide risk mapping. Sentinel-1 C-band data (2017–2021) were acquired via ASF HyP3 and processed in MintPy on ASF’s OpenSARLab, producing ascending and descending interferogram stacks with a 6-day temporal baseline (with a seasonal gap over the winter months) and a 200 m perpendicular threshold. The two geometries were averaged to reduce line-ofsight (LOS) bias and mitigate geometric distortions such as layover and shadow. Zonal statistics of soil data revealed four main soil types; post-glacial fine sediment, clay-silt sediment, sandy sediment, and glacial sediment where subsidence were greatest. A slope analysis revealed that flatter areas experienced more subsidence than steeper terrain. Comparisons with the Swedish Geological Survey’s national susceptibility map revealed strong spatial agreement in high-risk areas, while SBAS also detected previously unmapped subsidence areas. Analysis of the Göta River valley, one of Sweden’s most vulnerable areas, was also made that exposed SBAS limitations: its resolution and coherence constraints mean it cannot replace field surveys, but it effectively detects areas needing further investigation. The error and coherence analysis support the overall reliability of the time series. These results demonstrate the usefulness of SBAS-InSAR as a complementary tool for landslide monitoring and risk assessment at a regional scale.
Initial framework of active ownership of a public e-service within transformational government
E-government success factors and challenges are often examined from the perspective of an external observer who concludes on the current state of affairs. The success of e-services, however, needs to be actively developed. In order to make the e-government success influencers more actionable, we propose a framework of active ownership of a public e-service. The framework identifies “digitalization leadership within a public organization” and “private organization within a public-private partnership” as an active owner and a co-owner of a public e-service. It further specifies more than twenty tasks and a number of qualities of an active owner. The framework is grounded in a literature study. As the research progresses, we expect the framework to strengthen its positions as a reference point and practical guidelines for developing thriving e-services
