    No full text
The Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE) is an active non-governmental organization in Ethiopia. The Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia, hereafter referred to as FGAE, works to promote family planning and to create a safe environment for openness around family planning, contraceptives, and accessibility. However, there are still some challenges that remain. Reproductive health in Ethiopia is influenced by a range of factors such as healthcare, education, and cultural and traditional values. To improve the situation, a holistic approach is needed—one that includes education, healthcare, and a change in social norms. Working for family planning in Africa, but also in Ethiopia, is very important, because one can see women's desire for independence, education, work, economic security and well-being. The study shows that family planning is about more than providing contraception - it is about creating awareness and knowledge about family planning among both women and men. By educating and informing, FGAE works to strengthen women's right to make decisions about their reproductive health. The study was conducted using qualitative interview methods; two groups were interviewed. One group consisted of women who are involved with FGAE, and the other group consisted of employees working within FGAE. Most of the women interviewed married young and had low education and limited knowledge about family planning and contraception. FGAE works to raise awareness about these topics, despite challenges such as low education among the population and lack of resources. Many women often receive information about family planning and contraception through conversations with those around them. Even though the subject is sensitive and taboo in the country, FGAE has been successful in spreading knowledge, although there are still challenges in reaching the entire country. All of the women interviewed were positive about family planning and contraception.

Like Peeking Through the Door : An Essay on Librarians, Reading Memories, and Reading lives

This scholarly essay focuses on librarians and fiction. It is based on a workshop exercise called "The Bibliotherapeutic Lifeline." In the essay, four librarians share their bibliotherapeutic lifelines, which explore their experiences with reading, fiction, and professional practice. The presentation of their stories focuses how their reading memories and relationship with literature influence their professional roles and their work with literary mediation. The librarians’ stories are connected to the novel A Friendship by Silvia Avallone, which deals with reading and fiction. The presentation is inspired by narrative theory, where stories are viewed as carriers of both individual experiences and shared cultural notions. The essay aims to examine the norms and values surrounding librarian practice and fiction reading. It explores ideas about the librarian and the myth of "good literature." The analysis is situated within a field of voices from various research areas: the theory of practical knowledge, library and information science, and literary studies. Writings by Simone de Beauvoir, Aristotle, Jenny Lindberg, and Sven Anders Johansson provide perspectives on librarian practice, professional knowledge, and the meaning and value of fiction

Decisionmakers’ experiences of clinical IT-support for agility and resilience during and after Covid-19 : A case study on experiences and the role of clinical IT-supported decision-making within IT-reliant work processes at a university hospital

To ensure an organization's ability to survive external changes in the environment, it is imperative for organizations to achieve digital resilience through agility. Consequently with the spread of Covid-19, healthcare as an organization have been required to make constant decisions to maintain a resilience against the evolving change. To delve deeper into the following topic this study focuses on perioperative medicine and intensive care unit (PMICU) at a university hospital during and after Covid-19 to understand the decision makers experiences of agility and digital resilience with Clinical IT-Supported Decision-Making Process for their decision processes. This research applies an interpretative qualitative methodology to understand individuals experiences with deep-interviews. To ensure quality with the interviews a conceptual deductive framework was developed based on theories of knowledge management, interpunctuated socio-technical change, and process-oriented dynamic capabilities. The empirical data gathered through means of recordings are used to inductively analyze various deeper reasons and meanings for the lived experiences. To ensure nuanced perspectives this study interviews various clinical practitioners ranging from specialists to managers with various roles and responsibilities. The results show varied experiences regarding the role of clinical IT-supported decision making for agility and digital resilience due to mixed receptions with interoperability and expertise. These experiences illustrate a mix of both positive and negative distinctions with the role and interoperability, and its relevance for healthcares ability to attain a digital resilience through agile decision making. Alongside mixed receptions with Clinical IT-Supported Decision-Making Process, learning and knowledge have been perceived by the interviewees as crucial for agility, but certain knowledge are interpreted as situation dependent among some interviewees

    No full text
Subject: Business Administration with specialization in finance - Bachelor thesis Purpose: The purpose of the study is to analyze the relationship between dividend growth and profit growth in dividend-based companies on the OMX Stockholm PI, as well as to analyze whether dividend growth correlates with other selected financial key figures. Theory: The study is based on two main theoretical frameworks concerning the relevance or irrelevance of dividends. Within the theory of dividend relevance, three underlying sub-theories are included, while the theory of irrelevance challenges these assumptions. The analysis also relates to five selected financial key ratios. Method: The study adopts an abductive approach, in which established theories and previous research are examined, while new data is generated and analyzed with the aim of investigating whether dividend growth exhibits a relationship with other financial key ratios. The analysis is conducted using four statistical models: two correlation analyses and two regression analyses. Empirics: The study analyzes a total of 100 dividend-based companies listed on the OMX Stockholm PI in 2025, over a period from 2020 to 2024. In total, 100 observations are included, with each company linked to five financial key ratios. The sample is analyzed both as a whole and sector-specific, to identify potential relationships between dividend growth and the other key ratios. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that dividend growth is a multifaceted phenomenon that cannot be explained by individual financial indicators alone. The results suggest that the relationship with earnings growth is statistically significant, but weak, and that sectoral variations play an important role. A composite model incorporating multiple variables provides a more accurate representation, highlighting the need for methodological breadth and a holistic perspective when analyzing dividend polic

    No full text

Beneath the Military Horizon : Measuring Stone Age Hunter Weapon Point Technology at the Ecological Scale

    No full text
Stone Age hunter-gatherer weapon studies should hold a more central position within war studies since the vast majority of human weapons ever in existence were once used by these types of societies. Among these weapons, the projectile, or the weapon point, is arguably the most numerous and well-studied in both archaeological and ethnographical contexts. However, from a warfare and conflict perspective, the study of weapon points in Stone Age and hunter-gatherer societies is beset by two substantial and intertwined issues: (i) the problem of categorizing and defining violent activities and (ii) the problem of identifying functions for weapon points.  The thesis of this paper is that by turning to the ecological scale, i.e. the epistemology and ontology of Ecological Psychology and Dynamic Systems Theory (EP DST), these issues can be approached constructively. The ecological scale offers a consistent relational framework to quantitatively address weapon point property variation, covariation, historical and practical specificity, as well as experimental principles to quantitatively study emergent patterns in human-weapon point-environment relations. Archaeological studies and experiments with EP DST principles could potentially reveal how organisms, environment and emergent patterns affect the properties of a weapon point in traditional hunter-gatherer societies, given the typically intimate relationship between craft, body and usage. How this could be accomplished is exemplified with the Northern Eurasian inset point, an object that has been found in association with human bodies in Mesolithic Scandinavia. Hence, through EP DST perspectives and approaches, weapons points can be re-socialised in order to reveal their more specific or contextual conflict related dimensions

Geopolitikens irrvägar : Kjelléns eftermäle i världen

    No full text
The stray ways of geopolitics. Rudolf Kjellén’s posthumous world-wide reputation. The text is an overview and analysis of how Kjellén’s concept of geopolitics has beeninterpreted and valued. After his death in 1922, Kjellén’s repute grew in Germanythrough the translations of his The State as a form of life and the last version ofThe Great Powers with Karl Haushofer’s revisions using Kjellén’s name. With theNazi take-over Kjellén’s legacy waned but was kept alive by geographers in Estonia,Denmark and Switzerland. After World War II, two scholars, Grabowsky and Kristof, both in 1960, publishedreviews of Kjellén’s work, explaining his world view and freeing him from allegationsof being a proto-Nazi. In Scandinavia and Finland his ideas were only occasionallymentioned. With the resurgence of geopolitics, Kjellén has been cited and evaluated indiverse ways. In Russia, Central Europe and Latin America Kjellén has for better orfor worse been mentioned as giving the state a wider role beyond its constitution, including that of performing geopolitics. In the English-speaking world Kjellén has, with some remarkable exceptions, only been given a short reference as the creatorof the concept of geopolitics, often misinterpreted as something fundamentallyaggressive, territorial states fighting for power

Journalistic practice in times of crisis : A scoping review of role shifts and challenges tied to news production under extraordinary conditions

    No full text
This scoping review examines research on journalistic practices in the Nordic countries during societal crises, focusing on how such events disrupt newsroom routines and shape journalistic roles. Mapping the extent and focus of research on crises like the global Covid-19 pandemic, the 2011 Utøya terror attack in Norway, and the Jokela school shooting in Finland, the review identifies key challenges faced by journalists. These include balancing service and watchdog roles, navigating ethical dilemmas, and managing the growing influence of social media. The 32 studies (2007–2024) reveal a modest but growing research focus on journalistic practice during crises in the Nordic region. Findings show that, particularly in the acute phase, journalists prioritise information dissemination over critical scrutiny, often aligning with government messaging. While crises drive technological innovation and accelerate digital adaptation, they also raise ethical challenges, such as how to approach those affected and verify user-generated content. Furthermore, the findings show that the Nordic media systems demonstrated resilience and adaptability during crises
