Kulinarisk turism : Skärgårdsmat i Stockholms skärgård

    No full text

Tragedy, Then Farce : Slavoj Žižek’s Theory of Populism

    No full text
Slavoj Žižek is frequently portrayed as the paradigmatic antipopulistthinker. Yet he is also routinely criticized for endorsing populistcauses in contemporary politics, not least after his infamous remarksconcerning Donald Trump during the 2016 U.S. presidential election. Thisarticle aims to approach this supposed contradiction by examining Žižek’stheory of populism. Rather than reading his debate with Ernesto Laclau asprimarily a confrontation between reformist populism and revolutionarycommunism, the article approaches it as a fundamental disagreementover the relationship between theory and political practice. Through aclose reading of Žižek’s engagement with Laclau, the analysis revealshow Žižek critiques what he perceives as a fetishistic tendency in Laclau’sthought which ultimately produces a deficient account of universalizationand results in the domestication of the constitutive negativity marked bythe Lacanian objet a

De förbisedda barnen - Hälso- och sjukvårdskuratorers stöd till efterlevande barn vid vuxnas suicid : En enkätstudie

    No full text
The aim of this study was to examine how healthcare social workers in psychiatry and emergency care describe the support they provide to children (0–18 years) who have lost a parent or another cohabiting adult to suicide, focusing on interventions provided shortly after the death. The study was conducted as a simplified cross-sectional design with a strategic sample and elements of self-selection. Data were collected through a 40-item web survey distributed via social media and direct contact with healthcare units, and analysed using descriptive statistics, ANOVA, t-tests, Pearson’s r, and a basic thematic analysis. The results showed that social workers to some extent come into contact with suicide-bereaved children despite lacking a formal mandate. Reported interventions included conversations about emotions, reactions, recovery strategies, and information tailored to the child’s level of understanding. Barriers to providing support included parental refusal, lack of interprofessional communication, and unclear division of responsibilities. Participants requested suicide-specific training, clearer routines, and in some cases, external expertise. The findings suggest that structural factors, rather than insufficient competence, limit the support offered. In conclusion, many children risk not being identified or offered support, leaving suicide-bereaved children at risk of remaining an overlooked group within healthcare

A Comparative Analysis of the Foreign Aid Motives, Strategies, and Methods of the U.S. and China in Sub-Saharan Africa : Foreign Aid as Soft Power

    No full text
This study critically examines the foreign aid motives, strategies, and methods of the U.S. and China in sub-Saharan Africa during the period 2001–2024. Two theories have been used to provide a theoretical framework—realist theory and soft power. This study argues that both nations’ foreign aid policies are driven by national interests—reflecting the realist perspective—and are operationalized through soft power strategies, where aid is used as a practical tool reflecting the donor’s national interest. A soft power strategy increases the legitimacy of the donor and its influence on the African continent. Using a qualitative comparative analysis, this study has examined official governmental documents, scholarly books, and peer-reviewed articles. The results show that the strategies and methods employed by the U.S. and China differ significantly, while their motives do not differ as much. The interest in African resources is a common motive shared by both countries. The U.S. tends to set political requirements, such as the promotion of democracy and human rights, for recipient countries in order for aid to be disbursed, while China uses its "non-interference policy," offering aid without conditions. These different aid strategies reflect both ideological and historical differences. China is characterized by its non-colonial legacy, and the U.S. is characterized by its dominance within financial institutions (IMF and World Bank), which shape the global political economy. This research paper concludes that foreign aid is often framed as humanitarian, but it can be seen as a mask through which donor countries are driven by self-interest, reinforcing the realist assumption. Both the U.S. and China use aid to form political alliances and promote economic interests

Sumak Kawsay/Buen Vivir, a Flying River : A Decolonial Approach to Tinkuy and Social Justice

    No full text
This chapter explores the Indigenous moral-philosophical conceptualization of Buen Vivir (Vivir Bien/ Sumak Kawsay/Suma Qamaña) as a decolonial framework for social justice and ecological harmony, rooted in Indigenous epistemologies from the Andes and Amazon. It emphasizes the term Tinkuy, representing encounters and confrontations among diverse knowledge systems, which underscores Indigenous resistance against colonial legacies. The authors analyze the constitutional recognition of Indigenous rights in Ecuador and Bolivia, positioning Buen Vivir as a response to capitalist development models. The chapter argues for a multidimensional understanding of Buen Vivir, integrating class/justice, culture/ethnicity/ontology/epistemology, and ecologism to address the complexities of Indigenous struggles. Through comparative analysis of Indigenous and non-Indigenous perspectives, the authors highlight the importance of ethnographic research in capturing diverse voices. The political implications of Buen Vivir are examined, revealing tensions between Indigenous movements and state policies, particularly regarding extractivism. The authors advocate for recognizing the duality of particularistic and universalistic goals within Indigenous movements, framing Buen Vivir as a floating and plural conceptualization, a "flying river" that adapts to local contexts while promoting social justice. Ultimately, the chapter calls for a holistic understanding of Buen Vivir that encompasses both cultural preservation and broader socio-economic justice, underscoring its relevance in contemporary struggles for ecological sustainability and equity

Occupational safety amongst journalists in Mexico : A qualitative study of journalists' perceived occupational safety in Mexico

    No full text
Over the past two decades, Mexico has become known as one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists. Previous studies have largely focused on physical violence, while occupational safety has rarely been examined from a holistic perspective, one that also considers digital, financial, and psychological safety. This study explores occupational safety and the effects of threats to occupational safety using a comprehensive approach, based on ten long-form qualitative interviews with journalists working in Mexico. It also examines the impact of occupational threats on professional practice and emotional well-being. Through thematic analysis of the transcribed interviews, five key themes emerged: A) Physical threat: Regional differences, gendered violence, and safety equipment as a double-edged sword, B) Digital threat: Digital surveillance: a vague but common problem, C) Financial threat: Precarity and inequality D) Psychological threats and the effects of threat on emotional well-being: Psychological distress resulting from exposure to threats, coverage of traumatic events, and strained relationships with editors, and E) Coping and the effects of threats to occupational safety on professional practice: Self-censorship, distancing, support networks, and collective collaboration. The results of this study show that different forms of threats to occupational safety are interconnected, making certain groups such as freelancers and investigative journalists particularly vulnerable. The findings also demonstrate that threats affect journalists' professional practice at every stage, from idea development to publication, and that exposure to threats negatively impacts their emotional well-being, regardless of the type of threat involved

    Digitaliseringens påverkan på hållbarhetsarbete

    No full text
This bachelor thesis seeks to explore the convergence between sustainability and digitalization within the corporate business sector. As these two trends continue to grow and merge they change how organisations work, communicate and how they are structured. The purpose of this thesis is to investigate how the correlation between digitalization and sustainability works and how it can be useful to strengthen the organisations effort in terms of sustainability.   In order to examine this we used two questions: “How is corporate sustainability work affected by digitalization”? and “How can digitalization be utilized to enhance these efforts”? To analyze this we have used a theoretical framework combined with a qualitative approach combined with interviews. The theory provides us with guidance on how to analyze how digitalization is used as a strategic resource and how the organisations can adapt to external changes and how they work to live up to regulations like the Corporate Reporting Directive. We have gathered primary data from interviews with large listed companies from Nasdaq. This sample allows us to compare our results from different sectors such as banking and more traditional industrial companies. The results say that digitalization is a necessity for reliable and efficient sustainability work, through automation and more efficient processes makes the data collection and the traceability both easier and dependable. We have also found that it comes with certain difficulties, mostly in terms of implementation challenges like systematical integration and changes in the culture within the organisation.
