Off to the woods : a study of radicalsloyd as a practice for pedagogy
Tactile Stories : My Collection of Embodied Memories From an Act of Learning
In my thesis project, I am questioning how we, as interior architects, can design and use material in a creative, sustainable and sensory way when the common workflow of our practice is becoming increasingly more digital and distanced, when quality and prices are being pressured by the consumer system and when production, to a great extent, has moved to developing countries. I believe that when we distance ourselves from the practical knowledge and process of making, we are also distancing ourselves from understanding how our bodies inhabit the world. How are we to design meaningful and multi-sensory spatial experiences, create something to connect and care for, when we are working from a distance, far away beyond the horizon? In my view, all spatial experiences are multi-sensory, meaning that we experience them through more senses than our gaze. Therefore, I believe it is important to practice as an interior architect through embodied methods of making, not limiting our understanding of space to two-dimensional representations such as computer models or drawings. Through tactile, slow and repetitive hands-on practice, I learn about the material wood and its sensory qualities and let the material guide me in my process. My project shows my collection of embodied memories from that learning process in an archive of wooden pieces and three pieces of furniture. All telling a tactile story of their own to be experienced with our senses
Quiet, quiet,_____ Speaking! : Alternative futuring and The missing chair in Swedish Parliament
In this project, I speculate about a parallel world where a parliament chair for more-than-humans to ‘speak up’ exists within a human fabricated democratic construct. Along the narrative, we are to notice the grammar of other beings and to relearn the ethic of respect and interdependency by ‘deep listening’ to our often ‘quiet’ neighbors on this planet. The intention is to take a closer look at the actant nature of other-than-human beings, at the political of them through exploring the tension between power and empathy. The project adopts voting cards as a probing tool for humans’ involvement in the scenario. It explores the balance between chairs’ power connotation and the materiality of paper as well as the emotional character of sounds. It is an invitation of entering an alternative reality where imagination and affection towards a more inclusive and attentive relation with other-than-humans could be envisioned and questioned.
Endogenic Production : subjective matter and bodily involvement
The word endogenic means growing or proceeding from within, it is commonly used to describe the process of tectonic movement and earth crust formation caused by the extrusion of magmatic material. My project is a metaphorical exploration of the geological term “endogenic process” as well as an exploration of a design approach based on the term. The work explores soft form-bearing structures and textile bodies that contrast in relation to the hard framework of the rectangular room. It touches on material hierarchies in the living environment and the field of spatial design. The research explores the relationship between interior bodies and spatial frameworks. It aims to highlight the importance of the subject within the framework of the rectangular space that divides the interior of most buildings. My work involves exploring the endogenic process as a way of relating to the creative process and through the use of soft structures and drapery creating furniture that engages people with the spatial framework of the rectangular room. It is an exploration of spatial furniture that constitutes a connection and physical involvement between bodies and space, a kind of furniture providing a multiplicity of possibilities
In 2018, residents in Björkhagen, south of Stockholm, started the association “Björkhagens Hjärta”. The lack of a communal space spurred their desire to develop a community center in a disused abandoned and demolition-threatened local heating plant, the property “Åskvädret 2”. In a Google-search for local heating plants in Stockholm, it became apparent that many others in the area are in a similar situation. These buildings served their purpose in the 1960s and 70s, after the transition to district heating, however, they were left empty or rented out to businesses on short and temporary contracts. As the land where these plants are located has become more valuable and municipalities need land for housing, there is often a threat of demolition linked to these buildings. In my master's thesis I investigate specifically the heating plant Åskvädret 2 as a possible community centre for residents in the Björkhagen area, additionally I speculate further whether the strategies I test could be used to develop and create similar spaces in other disused heating plats. The large scale and industrial character of these spaces, often located centrally in residential areas, was recognized as a potential that I became curious to explore. What happens if we start off with something that already exsist and adapt activities and architectural additions based on that? By using minimal funds to change and manage the material that already exists and has existed on the site, the project wants to include both social and ecological sustainability with the goal of reactivating the city's space for democracy. Today we see an urban planning that focuses mostly on maximizing the number of square meters of living space. We need more housing, but where are the places for socializing, dance, play and debate

Elastica Symbiotica : I sökandet av fiberfröjdens trädgård
This paper explores how craft in general, and the tradition of machine knitting in particular, can act as support and an alternative method within healing processes connected to stress and burn-out. The paper uses creative writing and an intimate approach to reach for and highlight metaphors and epiphanies within the making of craft, discussed from micro and macro perspectives. The search for the garden of fiber delights includes discussions and reflections about the artistic practice in relation to thinkers as sociologists Bruno Latour and the actor-network theory, and Hartmut Rosa, and his theory about an accelerating society and the need for resonance. Some of the artists referenced in the paper are Hilma af Klint, Yayoi Kusama and Niki de Saint Phalle. The main wonder of this project and paper is: what will happen when I as an artist start to respond to the seed of resonance within, and not follow the norms and expectations emerged by capitalism causing stress? How can this knowledge be applied in the meeting with other people in need of healing and rest
Unravelling the Monstrosities Within : How can characters in stop motion animation illustrate the monstrosities that live inside us and help us to be kind to them?
This paper looks upon monsters as a medium; how concentration of fear can result in the demonisation of individuals. It explores how the use of craft, with a focus on stop motion animation, can be used as a tool to build empathy and help to heal fragmentations of society. Working with contemporary mythologies, crafted techniques are metaphorically related to the fragility of societal structures and collective narratives. Hand crafting references relics of consumer culture and explores variable autonomies over personal narrative, investigating imbalances of power
