Hidden within Urushi : A contemporary exploration of an ancient craft
No full textEmbarking on a hands-on, artistic journey, this project delves into an ancient method within the context of a modern world seemingly devoid of meaning. The focus is on urushi, a traditional Japanese lacquerware technique and material that has been perfected through the ages. Despite its historical significance, the respect and interest for urushi have waned, particularly in Sweden, where the material historically has been replaced to mimic its unique character.Through practical experimentation, theoretical inquiry, and reflective analysis, this thesis seeks to illuminate the significance of Urushi both as material and a carrier of values. It delves into the historical roots of Urushi, its material properties, techniques, and philosophical implications. By documenting the process of crafting Urushi objects and examining the values embedded within this craft, “Hidden Within Urushi” contributes to a deeper understanding of the enduring relevance of traditional crafts in contemporary society. The outcome of the creative process, where urushi stood as a guiding method, has resulted in a work setup containing two tables, two “furo” cabinets and a variety of tools. The initial phase of the process where the tools were created led to the creation of a chair, and a wall hung cabinet. Together this ensemble of objects becomes a micro interior that has been used during the process

No full textI mitt magisterarbete undersöker jag origamikunskap och dess tillämpning i workshopdesign. Jag utforskar hur origami, som en form av tyst kunskap, aktiveras inom en workshop som en lärandesituation. Syftet är att observera hur deltagarna tar till sig origamitekniker och använder dem inom workshopens ram. Genom att utforska origami med sina händer och kroppar, aktiverar deltagarna origamiskunskap som ett redskap för kommunikation. Denna fallstudie diskuterar olika möjligheter att förmedla origamikunskap till deltagare med olika bakgrund. Jag använder ett posthumanistiskt perspektiv för att analysera individens kroppsrörelser och kommunikationen mellan deltagarna under workshopen. Papper är ett lättillgängligt material, och pappersvikning är en kunskap som ofta används omedvetet i vardagen. Denna kunskap aktiveras av origami och kan användas för att skapa lärandesituationer för workshopdeltagare med olika bakgrund och främja social interaktion, öka kreativiteten och förbättra problemlösningsförmågan
People don’t hang around the coffee machine enough : Visual arts teachers' perceptions andexperiences of peer learning
No full textStudiens syfte är att närma sig bildlärares upplevelser och erfarenheter av kollegialt lärande samt hur det bidrar till kompetensutveckling. Vilket undersöks med frågeställningarna: Hur samtalar bildlärare på högstadiet och gymnasiet om sina upplevelser av lärande i sin yrkesroll? Hur beskriver lärarna att inslag av kollegialt lärande bidrar till deras kompetensutveckling? Genom insamlad empiri från fyra kvalitativa semistrukturerade intervjuer med undervisande bildlärare både från gymnasiet och högstadiet inom Stockholmsregionen undersöks frågeställningarna. Det empiriska materialet bearbetades och analyserades med en tematisk analysmetod samt utifrån en sociokulturell teorigrund. I resultatet lyfts tre övergripande teman: skolan som organisation och ledning, ämneslag och arbetslaget som resurs samt samspel med lärare utöver den vardagliga kontaktytan. Följande faktorer lyfts som förutsättningar för lärarnas lärande: det informella mötesrummet och utrymmet för informella samtal, vikten av administrativa tjänster och dess resurs för lärarrollen, planering, en behaglig fysisk plats, gruppsamansättningar och strukturer som påverkar arbetsbelastningen samt stöd samt engagemang från både kollegor och ledningsgrupp. Samarbete och engagemang framstår som viktiga förutsättningar för att lyckas med kollegialt lärande som kan bidra till kompetensutveckling i yrkesrollen som bildlärare

Inviting you to expand your consciousness are guides from four different animal kingdoms. Who will you be when you return? My degree project is an exploration of the natural world, and learning about the lives of organisms, while examining the effects of climate change. By experimenting with the website format, I discover its possibilities for creating storytelling that fosters a connection between non-human and human beings. My aim is to create stories about nature (and by extension us) that evoke a sense of wonder and create empathy and kinship for creatures other than ourselves

No full textc/o is a space that carries and amplifies queer voices. It's a place for organising, discussing and creating collectively, where activities will be held that promotes publishing as activism. c/o explores how queer archives and personal printed matter can be used as means for care and resistance, with the purpose to build a framework and community for publishing and activism. This is achieved through resource sharing, DIY or DIT zine culture and protest typography. I aim to document queer resistance by translating our collective histories into contemporary communication with a queered expression. I believe this to be a way to imagine/enable alternative futures that challenge conventional ideals in favour of queer realities
Knots of Narratives
No full textIn my master's project, "Knots of Narratives," I aim to investigate and explore my professional identity and how I position myself within the diverse world of design practices and contexts. Identity is multifaceted, and through this project, I seek to understand and articulate the various elements that contribute to my unique perspective as a designer. Our identity consists of many different components, and I've explored mine through my cultural backgrounds in Gambia and Sweden. I believe valuable knowledge is embedded in us, often subconscious and tacit, influencing our everyday practice. In this project, I sought to unpack and understand these sources within my history. By delving into historical creation methods in Sweden and Gambia, I drew inspiration from the practitioners and their valuable mindsets, recognizing the parallels between historical methods and contemporary sustainable design practices. The project culminated in a bench designed for two people, a conversational piece inspired by Swedish allmoge culture, incorporating attributes significant to Sweden and Dalarna, where I grew up. Gambia is represented in a cushion inspired by various handcraft methods, reflecting time-intensive processes that hold significant cultural value and tell a story. My cushion narrates my experience of having two cultures, the strength in that, and the feeling of not being entirely rooted in either. Together, the bench and cushion symbolize the collaboration and complementarity of my two cultures. This is my interpretation of my cultural heritage, which is crucial to remember
