PSIRION

Tongue of the Stone
About a year ago, I began to notice simplified pictograms of roads sweeping by along the highway, printed on trucks and on RVs. Despite their scaled-down image and the speed which they passed me by, I could clearly read them as roads, narrowing towards the horizon. My eyes were drawn to their shared generic look, with only slight changes detectable. It was as if they were different versions of the same idea. I was on my way to a small town called Solnhofen in southern Germany, located in the heart of Bavaria. With me in the passenger seat was my girlfriend Mari, who for some reason had agreed on my idea to spend our vacation in this rural town. Solnhofen is a place known for their fossils from the Jurassic period, with findings from excavations in the 150 million year old chalk stone. I wasn’t aware of this when we were driving on the Autobahn on our way there. My interest in the visit was not the fossils, but the lithographic stones that are produced in the area. Later I got to know that these histories have a lot in common. Not only are they made of the same material, chalk stone, but they share the tradition of Book of Nature, the idea of reading the world as a book. The idea has been recurring to me in the last years, informing my practice from the background. In this text I will try to bring some clarity on why this topic interests me, and expand on its relation to my artistic practice
Notes on… Sculpture
In my work, I try to spit out any idea that comes to mind. When an idea has been materialized into an object, that object functions as a note, a sketch for something ongoing. Some sketches eventually begin morphing into actual works. This usually takes time and the wait can be quite frustrating and feel meaningless. This essay will be an attempt at applying the same method working with text and hopefully it will make some sense to you. The following part will be a conversation, mostly me talking, but maybe I will ask some questions for you to answer. Some themes I will touch upon in this coming text is body (what a ride!), other artists (influential or inspirational to me), sculpture (thoughts?), health (experience), longevity (Alphaville - Forever Young), music (a playlist), smoking (a short story)
Speaking French Through Playful Tools
My master’s project combines language learning, game design, and graphic design. This project emerged from my personal and professional journey. After earning my bachelor’s degree in graphic design in France, I spent a year in Denmark as an au pair. I lived with a French-Danish family and spoke French with the children to help them practice the language, as they were more immersed in Danish in their daily lives. After that, I moved to Stockholm to begin my master’s program at Konstfack. Alongside my studies, I started working as a babysitter for French-Swedish families. That’s when I noticed something interesting: Some bilingual children I cared for were used to hearing their French parent speak to them in French, but often replied in Swedish since that parent also understood and spoke Swedish. When I was with them, they fully understood French when I spoke, but struggled to reply in French. These children don’t need to use French in their daily lives in Sweden, which is why they don’t speak it. This observation stayed with me. How can I help children overcome the barrier of speaking a language they understand? I often played board games while babysitting, so I thought designing a game could help them. That’s how the core question of my project emerged: How can graphic design and games encourage Swedish children to practice oral French expression
I am not the only that`s what somebody should have told me : An artistic work about the experience of medical trauma
Boardgame for motivated learning : about historical crafting cultures
1 Skolverket, centralt innehåll i slöjd, årskurs 7-9
