RAG in Research : Evaluating AI-Driven Literature Search Tools

    No full text
Retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) tools aim to combine language models and real-time database search to mitigate AI hallucinations. This study, conducted in the fall of 2024, assessed four academic RAG tools with respect to their ease of use as well as relevance of search results. The evaluation included a survey and a series of workshops with researchers at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, as well as additional tests conducted by library staff following a structured search protocol. Our findings suggest that, at this stage, these tools cannot replace traditional systematic database searches. A key weakness of these tools is the lack of context provided with the search results. We argue, in conclusion, for establishing some guiding principles for appropriate use of RAG tools in different use cases.Part of ISBN 9783032172716</p

I never tell anyone when I see a shooting star. In case they might have missed it. I don’t want to remind them of what never was, of what I experienced alone. I seek comfort in my solitude. The figures embody the presence of the absence. Each figure is drenched in the scent of decay and soil, blended with perfume from my loved ones. The perfumes are available for visitors to apply and carry with them

Twelve - embroidering grief is a textile artist’s ongoing work on the topic of grieving that has been part of her creative process for over a decade. It speaks of how they perceive the lack of communication in Sweden around the subject, fueled further by attending the University course The History of Death in 2021. The project will be a public installation encouraging discussion about bereavement by suggesting there are many ways of mourning, and that craft can be beneficial for healing. The artwork connected to this paper is a textile installation with embroidery meant to resemble tree trunks or the artist´s phenomenological perception of trees, more specifically very tall pine trees, in a grove. The work links craft and mourning. It touches on theories as how grief is both a biological and psychological phenomena, on personal grief and how the artist deals with it herself. Biophilic design is mentioned, and parallels are drawn between health and nature. Natural dyeing and metal works emphasize the perception of trees. Sound and other sensory experiences will make the audience aware of their own body in the space. By asking the viewer to sigh while in the installation, the artist encourages an introspection for a short while. This action lowers one’s blood pressure as a result of our bodily response which might make one feel more present.First opponent: Yuvinka MedinaSecond opponent: Åsa Dybwad Norman</p
