Reversed mentorship – tackling two challenges with one solution : A qualitative study on reverse mentoring from an HR and business administration perspective.
Background: The labor market is characterized by a paradox: while employers report a significant skills shortage, recent graduates struggle to secure employment due to a lack of experience. This imbalance indicates a need for alternative strategies that both facilitate the labor market integration of recent graduates and strengthen the competencies of existing staff. In this context, reverse mentoring – a concept in which junior employees act as mentors to more senior employees – has emerged as a potential solution for promoting competence development. Purpose: The purpose of this study is to explore how reversed mentoring can be used as a strategy to ease the transition of recent graduates into the labor market, while simultaneously fostering competence development within organizations. Method: A qualitative case study was conducted, involving semi-structured interviews with six participants who had previously been mentees in a structured reverse mentoring program. The study was conducted inductively, and a thematic analysis was used to interpret the data, focusing on participants’ experiences, perceptions, and views on the implementation of reverse mentoring in organizational settings. Conclusion: The results show that reverse mentoring can serve as a meaningful tool for promoting both individual and organizational competence development and—under the right conditions—help reduce the barriers to labor market entry for recent graduates. In other words, reverse mentoring has the potential to tackle two challenges with one solution. However, realizing this potential requires a clear framework, deliberate change management, and long-term commitment from the organization

Colored light and its effect on working memory: An experimental study
Totalt deltog 19 personer i studien. Exposure to monochromatic blue and red light affects working memory in differentways. The goal with this study was to determine whether the color of light influencesverbal and visuospatial working memory capacity, and to address three researchquestions related to these potential effects. The study seeks to contribute to a betterunderstanding of how lighting affects cognitive functions in indoor environments. The investigation was conducted as a within-subject experimental design, whereparticipants were exposed to both blue and red light. Two working memory tests wereused: Digit Span for verbal working memory capacity and Corsi Block-Tapping forvisuospatial ability. A total of 19 participants took part in the study. The results wereanalyzed using paired t-tests.Results showed no statistically significant differences in working memory performancebetween the two lighting conditions. Performance was nearly identical regardless oflight color, and neither of the tested memory functions was clearly affected by thelighting environment. The analysis also showed that light color did not have differenteffects on the two memory tests. The spectral composition of light, in this case monochromatic blue and red, had nonoticeable effect on participants' performance during short working memory tasks. Thestudy can therefore contribute to greater knowledge for lighting designers andresearchers regarding how colored light interacts with cognitive ability. Suggestions aremade for further research on longer exposure times, alternative testing methods, andadditional cognitive functions
Climate change in American newspapers : The re-framing of climate change and global warming in the American Wall Street Journal and The Washington Post
This dissertation utilises coding to extract frame packages via the method of framing analysis. 40articles from The Wall Street Journal and 40 articles from The Washington Post were analysedwith the intent of examining how the framing of climate change has changed over time in terms oflanguage and intent, and to what extent any findings can be connected to political leaning. For amore modern and zoomed in perspective, for each newspaper 10 articles will originate from thefirst three months of the last four American presidencies; Obama 2013, Trump 2017, Biden 2021,and Trump 2025. The right leaning The Wall Street Journal more often framed climate change asa probable or outright hoax with vague evidence backing it up, or as an exaggerated phenomenonblown out of reasonable proportion, especially at the expense of economic gain. The left leaningThe Washington Post solidified climate change as a true, progressing environmental phenomenonof human origin, using considerably more emotionally influencing language that could swayreaders than The Wall Street Journal did. These framing differences reflects the typical politicalleanings associated with the respective newspapers, and the President currently in office at thetime determined presentation. The Washinton Post sought to present climate change as fullycompatible with human prosperity and that sacrifices in that pursuit would pay off long-term, whileThe Wall Street Journal downplayed the relevancy of climate change and instead focused oneconomic gain and stability as the key to human prosperity. The true reason for these differencescould be an excellent follow-up for further study
Red light and facial recognition: A study on perceived safety on pedestrian and bicycle paths
CONSTRUCTION OF SEALED DITCHES ALONG EXISTING ROAD
Introduction - The report, which is being carried out in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration, investigates how sealed ditches should be constructed along existing roads to protect water sources. The Swedish Transport Administration needs more knowledge about an economically sustainable method for constructing sealed ditches along existing roads, as current requirements are unexplored, and it is difficult to know what they are based on. The aim of the report is to find out how sealed ditches should be constructed along existing roads from a functional and economic point of view. Method - The study uses a mix of quantitative and qualitative methods to answer the two different questions. The research is carried out through case studies and simulations. Data is collected through document studies and workshops, in collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration. Information searches have been carried out in primarily Primo to collect relevant background information. During the course of the work, simulation and modeling have been used in programs such as Plaxis LE 2D and PMS Object to analyze road sections and their strength. In parallel with the students' work, a working group at the Swedish Transport Administration has conducted an investigation into circumventing certain requirements when designing sealed ditches in Hultsfred. Results – The results are best shown in the form of images in Chapter 4 Results, where three different sections are reported. The calculations have been carried out based on economy, strength at completion and strength during construction. In order to obtain a real economic comparison, the cost for 100 meters of trench was calculated. According to Plaxis LE 2D, Section 1 has a safety factor of 2.428 at completion and a cost of SEK 835,857 for 100 meters of trench. Section 2 has a safety factor of 2.427 and a cost of SEK 638,767. Section 3 has a safety factor of 2.385 and a cost of SEK 556,036. Analysis – Three sections for sealed trenches have been analyzed. Section 3 is the cheapest but difficult to build in practice due to the risk of damage to the waterproofing layer. Section 1 is technically stable and the section that is fully compliant, however, it is expensive and affects traffic around the road construction. Section 2 is therefore the best solution with a good balance between cost, constructability and function. Discussion – The study shows how dense ditches can be constructed along existing roads using simulations, theory and the Swedish Transport Administration's specialists. AutoCAD and Plaxis provided useful results, but there are some uncertainties around parameters and interpretations. The method choices provided high credibility, but due to the project being unique with a few previous cases, it was difficult to compare the results with other investigations.
Emission-reduced asphalt paving: fuel consumption, environmental impact and economic cost
Introduction (and aim) – To limit the greenhouse gas emissions from the asphaltproduction, renewable fuels are used in the asphalt plants which reduces the emissionsfrom the manufacturing process. To continue the climate work, also the emissions fromthe paving process need to be reduced. This study investigates how asphalt pavers androllers are used in production, and how their operation and choice of fuel affect boththe economy and the environment. The goal is to map and identify opportunities forimprovement in machine usage and fuel alternatives to guide contractors towardsdeveloping more resource- and climate conscious working methods. Method – The study is a quantitative case study with elements of qualitative methods.Document analysis and interviews are the data collection techniques used to obtain thestudy's empirical material. List prices of fuels, emission values, and machine data forasphalt pavers and rollers are analysed to examine how their usage impacts theenvironment and economy. The interviews complement the machine data and providea deeper understanding of work methods and challenges in production. Results – Compiled tables show that asphalt pavers and rollers are used inefficientlyand are primarily powered by MK1 diesel. Switching to HVO100 reduces carbondioxide equivalent emissions caused by fuel combustion by 74 percent compared tousing MK1 diesel. However, HVO100 has a higher purchase price, and using itexclusively would increase total production costs by 0,15 percent. Furthermore, theresults indicate that work methods in production can be improved to reduce bothenvironmental impact and economic cost. Better planning, reduced idling, and clearerguidance on fuel choices would have lowered the environmental impact of theproduction. Analysis – By compiling the collected numerical data into tables and thematizing thetranscribed interviews, the results could be analysed. The analysis shows that broaderimplementation of HVO100 as a fuel in asphalt pavers and rollers is a simple step thatreduces the environmental impact of production. Furthermore, extended idling periodsneed to be minimized, a long, continuous production stop allows for the paver to beturned off. The roller should be shut down immediately when not in use for compaction. Discussion – The study’s discussion of results emphasizes that the transport of asphaltmix needs to be optimized through communication between the paving crew andtransport trucks to minimize extended idle periods. Time should be allocated at the startof the workday to plan deliveries and identify longer production stops, allowing thepaver to be turned off. The roller should be shut down when not actively compacting toavoid unnecessary emissions of carbon dioxide equivalents. The study’smethodological discussion highlights both the strengths of the chosen methods and thestudy’s limitations. Suggested improvements include interviewing more industryprofessionals from different stakeholders to enable better generalization of the results
Managing Unplanned Change in Project : A study of Change Readiness in Complex Industrial Contexts
Background – Today’s world is in constant change, demanding organizations to change accordingly. Competencies of both change management and project management are crucial in change adaptation, and leaders need to be aware of how to manage change resistance and enhance employee commitment. Projects in complex industries involve a high level of complexity and need to ensure change-ready project teams to enable smoother change implementation. Purpose – The study aims to explore the management of unplanned change in projects and specifically to investigate how projects in complex industries handle unplanned changes to enable change-ready project teams. Methodology – The study uses a qualitative research design where a deductive research approach has been followed. The study includes an embedded single case study where interviews and a focus group have occurred as data collection methods. Findings – The result showed that several types of unplanned changes are occurring in projects in complex industries, and that unplanned change is more common than planned changes. Five factors were identified to influence the management of unplanned change in projects, and they are its operating industry, leadership, communication, change resistance, and organizational culture. Some possible improvements that can be made are to make sure the project is understood and has a suitable strategy, have clear communication regarding changes, create a feeling of belonging and involvement in the project team, and enhance cross-functional understanding. Implications – The study has theoretical implications where it contributes to the limited research concerning how change in projects should be managed, and to the research field of change management. Practical implications include the findings which highlight several important considerations for project leaders and organizations aiming to strengthen change readiness in complex and dynamic industries. Framed and Shared: Understanding the Personal and Sensitive Data Disclosure : An Experimental Study on How Framing, Combined with Data Sensitivity Levels and Recipients, Shape Willingness to Share Personal and Sensitive Information in Wearable Mental Health Technology
With growing public interest in mental health, applications connected to smartwatches have be-come increasingly common, offering users tools to monitor and manage their well-being. This thesis examines how message framing affects users’ willingness to share personal and sensitive data in the context of digital mental health services. It further explores differences in sharing behaviour between first-party and third-party recipients, as well as the influence of users’ self-reported mental health status. A web-based between-subjects experiment was conducted, in which participants were exposed to one of three transparency framing conditions (altruistic, egoistic, or neutral). Willingness to share data was measured alongside trust, privacy concerns, and personality traits. Results showed that participants were significantly more willing to share data with first-party recipients than with third parties. Individuals with a mental health condition reported higher overall willingness to share sensitive data. However, message framing had no significant effect on sharing behaviour. This study contributes to the practical understanding of willingness to share in mental health applications, offering insights for designers, policymakers, and stakeholders to develop privacy conscious and trust strategies that align with users’ expectations and concerns
