Background Manual logging is a physically demanding task, exposing workers to awkward postures and high biomechanical loads, particularly in the lower back. Despite technological advances, manual tree felling is still widely used and solutions to reduce long-term musculoskeletal risk remain limited. Purpose and Aim The aim of this study was to conduct a proof of prototype biomechanical evaluation of the passive back-supporting exoskeleton developed by Husqvarna for use in logging work. The study focused on assessing whether the device reduces muscle activity in the erector spinae and maintains range of motion during simulated forestry tasks. As the first study to evaluate the prototype, this thesis also explored user experiences to gain preliminary insights into its practical usability and perceived comfort. Methods Eight male participants with logging experience completed six tasks, including Range of Motion (ROM) and functional logging tasks. All tests were performed in a motion capture lab with and without the prototype exoskeleton. Electromyography (EMG) and ROM data were collected, and subjective feedback was obtained using a post-test survey. The evaluation was structured using an adapted Double Diamond framework informed by emphatic principles from the Bootleg design approach, focusing on systematic testing and user-centered analysis within the ‘test and refine’ phase of development. While no redesign iterations were implemented in this study, the framework supported a structured approach to identifying design limitations and suggesting future improvements. Results No statistically significant reduction in muscle activity was found when comparing tasks performed with and without the exoskeleton, although moderate effect sizes suggest potential benefits under certain conditions. Significant ROM restrictions were found in hip and trunk rotation, which could affect task execution. Survey feedback highlighted issues with fit, comfort, and adjustability, although most participants agreed the exoskeleton helped maintain posture. Conclusion The exoskeleton did not significantly reduce muscle activity of the erector spinae, however, a significant reduction in range of motion in rotation was observed in the hip and trunk. This confirms concerns about limited range of motion when using the exoskeleton. User feedback indicated discomfort and mobility constraints while improving posture control. Results highlight design improvements in ergonomics and load distribution. Future research should also explore long-term adaptation, compensatory strategies and real-world performance of the exoskeleton
STUDY OF EUROCODE 5 - ANALYSIS OF DESIGN OF GLULAM BEAMS WITH HOLES
Leadership and Employee Well-Being in Growing SMEs
Background: In a modern world where globalization and competition are being intensified, an organization’s success depend on employee performance and well-being. Technological, economic, demographic, and social changes are reshaping work, often resulting in unsustainable expectations that contribute to declining employee well-being. As a result, employee well-being has gained significant attention in both research and policy frameworks. Promoting employee well-being is particularly relevant for SMEs who represent 99.9% of all businesses in Sweden. Leadership is central to success of SMEs as leaders influence employee outcome. Therefore, prioritizing employee well-being through good leadership is key to ensuring success in today’s business environment. Purpose: As companies grow, leaders face managerial challenges which can impact their ability to maintain a healthy work environment. Research on how leaders navigate the pressures of growth while balancing employee well-being remains limited. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to explore how leaders in SMEs perceive and promote employee wellbeing during growth, using the leaders’ own experiences as a foundation. Method: This study uses qualitative research grounded in a relativist perspective and guided by an inductive approach. Data was collected through nine semi-structured interviews conducted with leaders from seven different companies. The data was analyzed using thematic analysis. Conclusion: The findings of this study showed that leaders perceive and promote employee well-being in growing SMEs in different ways, shaped by their organizational context and personal understanding. However, all leaders emphasize employee well-being as being central to organizational success and their role in promoting employee well-being during growth. Leaders highlighted the importance of communication, trust, and adapting to individual needs, using both informal and formal organizational tools, while also emphasizing personal responsibility including leader and employee self-care. The majority of the leaders recognized that growth introduces leadership challenges, however, few viewed growth as positively. Lastly, the findings suggest differences between internal and external ownership in growing SMEs, particularly in how they affect employee well-being and organizational culture. It is also suggested that smaller SMEs better support employee well-being, while medium sized companies face greater challenges
Material and Mechanical Analysis of Large-Scale Castings
The increasing demand for lightweight materials to enhance efficiency and sustainability is driving the optimized use of Aluminium alloys with superior mechanical properties. The use of recycled aluminium is also gaining rapid interest in industries. The revolutionizing technologies like Mega casting offer advantages such as cost reduction and improved efficiency by enabling the production of multiple components in a single casting operation. To ensure best performance, it is important to assess potential variations in mechanical and microstructural properties within the casting. The study conducted on mega casting testing model produced under High Pressure Die Casting (HPDC) technique, incorporating various material additions. Utilized tensile testing along with Digital image correlation (DIC), to evaluate strain filed variation caused by visible porosity defects and hidden oxide inclusions. Results indicated that the central portion of the third plate of component exhibited significant deviation in mechanical performance, primarily due to the oxides entrapment during melt preparation and filling. Simulations revealed turbulent melt flow during injection, which likely contributed to air entrapment. The presence of hidden defects such as oxides and bifilms is confirmed by fracture surface analysis using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) technique. These findings were further supported by statistical analysis and Weibull distribution plots. The addition of vanadium to the secondary material was found to enhance mechanical properties. While visible porosity defects had minimal impact, hidden defects like bifilms played a significant role in the deterioration of mechanical performance in the third plate. The study underscores the importance of optimizing design and processing parameters to ensure consistent mechanical properties across different regions of the casting
From Intention to Practice : Didactic challenges for compensatory education in the subject of Swedish for grades 1–3
This study is situated within the field of education, focusing on teachers’ ability to create inclusive and individualized Swedish language instruction in the early school years. Despite curriculum requirements for adaptations, many teachers experience obstacles in planning and implementation. The aim of the study is to contribute knowledge about how compensatory teaching in the subject of Swedish in grades 1–3 can be realized, as well as what challenges this mission. The study is based on sociocultural learning theory, supported by the concepts of scaffolding and the zone of proximal development. Five Swedish language teachers participated in this qualitative study, which was conducted through semi-structured interviews. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis. The results highlight teachers’ experience of a constant lack of time as a major challenge that complicates the planning and implementation of individualized instruction. To save time, teachers use strategies such as group adaptations and reusable materials. Five key factors are emphasized as central to their work: strong relationships with pupils, varied materials, visual support, collegial collaboration, and professional development. The conclusion is that the teachers in the study cannot be said to have been given proper conditions to work with individual support measures in accordance with curriculum requirements. Teachers’ ability to do so is significantly influenced by organizational frameworks, with the lack of time emerging as the most critical obstacle

“Belonging Through Representation: A Social Identity Perspective on Managerial Diversity and Retention in Sweden”
Diversity in leadership positions is an important theme within the organizational and international management contexts, especially in regards to research. The purpose of the study was to determine the links between employee retention and management's ethnic diversity within a Swedish organizational context. This was done based upon the foundational theory of social identity theory (Tajfel & Turner, 1986), and followed a qualitative study based around six different interviews. After these interviews were undertaken and analyzed, it was found that employees' loyalty and retention are indeed impacted by the ethnicity of their immediate supervisors. This was found to be especially true among those who were non-ethnically Swedish, or not of the ethnic majority in the country. By understanding and integrating ethnically diverse people into leadership, increases in loyalty and retention were found to be possible, along with many other benefits that have been highlighted in previous studies, such as McKinsey and Companies (2020). This thesis also concludes that meaningful representation and inclusive organizational practices are necessary when it comes to increasing and fostering employees'loyalty and retention in ethnically diverse workplaces and environments. For the Swedish contexts, this means organizations either continue to or start to adopt stronger approaches towards diversity and equitable leadership makeup
Outdoor time at the after-school center : A phenomenological interview study of after-school care students' experiences
Efficient Inventory Management within a Make to Stock Strategy
Purpose – Companies need to maintain sufficient inventory to meet demand while avoiding excessive capital tied up in stock. Achieving a balance between inventory levels and service levels is crucial, with capital commitment playing a central role. For manufacturing companies applying a Make to Stock (MTS) strategy, this is particularly challenging, as production is based on forecasts rather than actual demand. The purpose of this study is therefore: To investigate how manufacturing companies using a Make to Stock (MTS) strategy can optimize their inventory management in order to balance service levels and inventory levels from a capital commitment perspective. To fulfil this purpose, the study is guided by two research questions: [1] What challenges do MTS companies face in balancing their inventory levels from a capital commitment perspective? [2] How can MTS companies balance their inventory levels with the goal of achieving more efficient capital utilization? Method – The study is conducted as a case study, following an abductive approach. It is primarily based on qualitative research with elements of quantitative data. To address the research questions, data was collected through interviews and document studies. The interviews were transcribed, coded and analysed using a thematic analysis method, which was deemed suitable for processing the large volume of qualitative data. Findings – The results identify several challenges associated with balancing inventory levels from a capital commitment perspective. Additionally, the study highlights tools that companies can use to manage their inventory more effectively. Among other things, the study revealed that challenges often arise due to uncertain demand forecasts, complex material flow, and a lack of coordination between departments. The study also showed that methods such as item classification, economic order quantity, and safety stock dimensioning can support the development of a more demand-driven and cost-efficient inventory management. Implications – The study contributes both theoretical and practical implications. Theoretically, it compiles and connects existing literature on inventory management, capital commitment, service levels, and demand forecasting. Practically, it offers insights into the challenges manufacturing companies face in managing capital commitment and provides guidance on how inventory strategies can be optimized to improve both delivery performance and resource efficiency. Limitations – The study is limited to processes from raw material inventory to finished goods inventory within the scope of a functional production layout. Other parts of the supply chain are excluded. The focus is solely on standard products under a Make to Stock (MTS) strategy, custom-made products are not included. The study does not address strategic decisions regarding overall warehouse design or the actual implementation of proposed measures. Instead, it aims to serve as decision support for more effective inventory management from a capital commitment perspective. Keywords – capital tie-up, inventory levels, Make to Stock (MTS) strategy, production, safety stock, service level, supply chainSyfte – Företag behöver ha tillräckligt med produkter i lager för att kunna möta efterfrågan men samtidigt inte binda för mycket kapital i lager. Nyckelord – försörjningskedja, kapitalbindning, lagernivåer, lagerservicenivå, Make to stock (MTS)-strategi, produktion, säkerhetslager
