The effect of non-surgical periodontal treatment on blood glucose levels in diabetes mellitus
Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a growing global public health issue. The linkbetween diabetes and periodontitis is well documented with research suggestingthat periodontal disease may negatively affect blood glucose levels. However, knowledge regarding the effects of non-surgical periodontal treatment on bloodglucose levels remains limited. Aim: To investigate how non-surgical periodontaltreatment affects blood glucose levels in individuals with diabetes mellitus.Method: A systematic literature review was conducted in accordance withPRISMA guidelines. Twenty-one original articles published between 2005 and2025 were included, selected through the databases MEDLINE, CINAHL andDOSS. Results: Most articles showed that non-surgical periodontal treatmentcontributed to a statistically significant reduction in blood glucose levels, particularly in individuals with type 2 diabetes. The effect was most pronounced atfollow-ups of three to six months. In some cases, the addition of systemic antibioticsor local antiseptics further enhanced the glycemic effect. Conclusions: Nonsurgical periodontal treatment may help improve blood glucose levelsin individualswith type 2 diabetes. The results suggest that the treatment can be a complement todiabetes care. Significance: These results emphasize the importance of closercollaboration between dental care and healthcare in order to improve glycemicoutcomes in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
Financial Decision-Making and Sustainability: A Study of Generational Differences in Family Businesses
Background: Family businesses play a vital role in the global economy, yet they face complex challenges in balancing financial goals with long-term sustainability. As generational transitions take place, different values and perspectives influence decision-making style. While the preceding generation adopts a more cautious and risk-averse approach, the succeeding generations are more open to change and innovation. Despite this dynamic is increasingly relevant in sustainability, there is still limited study of how generational differences shape sustainability related financial decision making in family businesses. Purpose: This study investigates how different generations within family businesses approach sustainability-related financial decision-making. It aims to deepen understanding of how generational perspectives impact decision-making and provide insights that can support more balanced, future-oriented financial planning in family businesses. Method: A qualitative research design was adopted using semi-structured interviews with participants from family businesses representing multiple generations. This approach enabled the exploration of different views related to sustainability and finance. The collected data wasthematically analysed to identify key patterns and insights. Conclusion: This study highlights that the generational differences in family business bring different approaches to sustainability-related financial decisions. They create opportunities for collaboration. The mutual trust and collaboration between the generations foster balanced decision making, combining the caution and experience of the preceding generation with the innovation and strategic mindset of the succeeding generation. This dynamic helps to balance the ability to invest insustainability and financial decision
Caught In The Middle : Exploring the Impact of Return-To-Office Transitions on Middle Managers' Well-being
Background: Return-to-office (RTO) policies have emerged prominently post-COVID-19, reshaping workplace dynamics and reintroducing traditional work models after a period of remote and hybrid arrangements. While considerable attention has been given to employee and organizational impacts, the experiences of leaders, particularly middle managers tasked with implementing these policies, remain underexplored. Positioned uniquely between strategic directives and employee concerns, middle managers face distinct challenges influencing their psychological and emotional well-being during RTO transitions. Purpose: This study investigates how RTO transitions impact the well-being of middle managers, aiming to uncover how they experience, and cope with the associated demands and tensions. Method: Employing a qualitative research design, this thesis used semi-structured interviews with middle managers from knowledge-intensive organizations. A Gioia-inspired analysis within a critical realist philosophy guides the empirical exploration, enabling deep insight into structural and relational mechanisms affecting manager well-being. Conclusion: Middle managers experience significant relational and operational stress during RTO transitions. Unclear policy directives, heightened expectations, and disrupted workplace relationships are primary stressors. In response, middle managers develop adaptive coping strategies, notably enhanced self-awareness and strengthened social connectedness. These responses contribute to transformations in leadership identity, facilitating resilience and adaptability. The study synthesizes findings into a visual conceptualization illustrating the interplay of structural conditions, resulting well-being consequences, and coping strategies. Theoretically, the thesis integrates Job Demands-Resources (JD-R), Conservation of Resources (COR), and PERMA models into a unified set of theoretical lenses to view middle managers’ well-being. Practically, it emphasizes the importance of structured organizational support, recommending interventions targeting psychological resilience, adaptive leadership skills, and a supportive organizational culture. Our study provides valuable insights for scholars and practitioners interested in leadership sustainability and middle managers’ well-being within evolving workplace contexts
Surviving The High Tides : How Freight Forwarders are adapting to the Ocean Shipping Carriers’ expansion in Sweden’s logistics sector.
Background: Ocean Shipping Carriers (OSCs) control 80% of global cargo movement, while freight forwarders act as intermediaries. However, OSCs vertically integrate, encroach on the freight forwarding industry via mergers, acquisitions, and digitalization, increasing competition. This study examines how Swedish freight forwarders adapt, considering regional factors like sustainability regulations, digital transformation, and geography. Purpose: Despite growing global research on the vertical integration of Ocean Shipping Carrier (OSCs), there is limited understanding of how this trend impacts freight forwarders at the regional level. Our primary objective is to address this gap and examine how freight forwarders respond to this growing trend. Also, we seek to gain a deeper understanding of how the local dynamics enable them to remain competitive within an evolving market environment. Method: Our study uses a qualitative, multiple case study approach with semi-structured interviews of mid- and senior-level industry professionals to explore diverse perspectives on the phenomenon. Interview questions were designed with input from practitioners and an academic expert to ensure practical and scholarly relevance. Adopting a relativistic stance, the research examines how freight forwarders perceive and respond to this trend in Sweden. Conclusion: The study finds that OSCs’ vertical integration has a moderate, gradual impact on Swedish freight forwarders, with limited direct disruption. Rather than defensive moves, forwarders focus on proactive, customer-centric strategies, prioritizing trust and personalized services. Regional factors like sustainability pressures, digital gaps, and geography shape adaptations, often reflecting market norms and firm capabilities more than direct responses to integration
Investigating the Influence of Visual Consistency Between SNS Content and UI Design on User Experience : A data-driven approach to the integration of UI and SNS visual content
The interconnected nature of today’s online platforms, specifically social media and websites, has made seamless experiences across social media and websites crucial to the visibility and memorability of brands. This study investigates user perceptions of different levels of visual consistency between an e-commerce user interface and social media content on user experience and trust. A dedicated e-commerce website was developed for a fictitious brand, along with content for three different social network accounts, each designed with varying degrees of visual consistency towards the website’s user interface. Participants were divided into three groups, with each group interacting with one of the accounts and the website to examine how cross-platform visual consistency influences users’ perception of trust, navigational ease, and intentions to engage. The study combines usability testing, semi-structured interviews, and thematic analysis to capture both behavioral and cognitive user responses across these groups. Findings suggest that the perceived visual consistency promotes greater trust and navigational ease, leading to a more positive user experience. Conversely, perceived inconsistencies between platforms can disrupt user expectations and diminish the credibility of a brand.
Insourcing of pre-assembly
Understanding the emotional rollercoaster in children with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD)
Abstract Background Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is a neurodevelopmental condition with difficulties in understanding and producing language. These language difficulties make it difficult for them to understand and express the various emotions, leading to emotional challenges as they grow. Research on studying the emotional challenges is limited and growing, but still, there is a lack of evidence that mentions how these challenges evolve from childhood to adolescence. Aim To identify and understand emotional challenges in school-going children aged 6 to 17 years with DLD and to see how these evolve from childhood to adolescence. Method The current scoping review included five databases, and the search process was carried out systematically, resulting in 12 articles. These articles were selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria and the PCC framework. All the articles reported on the emotional challenges experienced by children and adolescents. Results The results reveal that the children with DLD have problems with emotional competence, which includes awareness, regulation, and categorization. When these challenges were seen from childhood to adolescence, it was observed that the challenges were more with understanding and exhibited behaviourally during childhood, and gradually start to become multifaceted by affecting the social life, and during adolescence, it becomes more internalizing, impacting their social skills and mental health. The primary cause is the language deficits, which continue from childhood to adolescence and sometimes till adulthood. The secondary issues encountered are the problems faced at the level of social and behavioural domains, which in turn increase the risk of mental health problems. Conclusions It can be concluded that early emotional screening and implementation of tailor-made intervention strategies targeting not just the language deficits but also the other domains (e.g., emotional or social), which are difficult for the children, will positively impact their everyday life and help them in managing their emotional challenges. Keywords: Emotional Challenges, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD), School-going children, Childhood to adolescence, and language deficits
Room for interests and needs : A qualitative study about children’s experiences of the physical indoor environment in after-school educare.
Analyzing and Optimizing Die Changeovers in Mechanical Presses : A Case Study at Presso in Skillingaryd
This study was conducted with the aim of analyzing and improving the tool & die changingprocess in two mechanical presses at Presso AB. Presso is a Swedish subcontractor located inSkillingaryd, where most of the work took place. By mapping the current state, identifyingexisting issues, and proposing concrete improvements, the objective was mainly to reducesetup time. Shorter setup time increases production capacity and improves flexibility inmanufacturing. The background to this work lies in shifting market demands, which require ahigher degree of product customization. This trend leads to smaller batch sizes, making setuptimes more significant than before. The study addressed three central research questions: how the current tool changing processis structured, what improvement opportunities can be identified, and how the workflow canbe organized to simplify the process. Through observations, data collection, and dialogue adetailed description of current process was created and analyzed to develop suitableimprovements. Based on identified issues, both short- and long-term recommendations werepresented and even some organizational factors that influence the outcome of the study werealso highlighted. The discussion emphasizes the importance of improvements that lead to simpler, safer, andmore standardized workflow. These improvements not only reduce setup times but alsocontribute to a better working environment and reduce variation in both time and processoutcome. At the same time, it is acknowledged that additional observations could haveprovided more data and allowed for more accurate calculations of profitability and theoreticaltime savings, even though the proposed improvements are logically sound and aligned withestablished industrial practices
