“If anyone has felt otherwise, I am truly sorry.”

    No full text
This study examines how the influencer-owned company Djerf Avenue and its founder Matilda Djerf initially handled the reputational crisis that arose after Aftonbladets investigation of the company’s working conditions in December 2024. The purpose of this study is to analyze which crisis communication strategies that were used and how the rhetorical appeals of ethos, pathos and logos were used. This study is based on a directed qualitative content analysis of five statements published on Instagram and in the newspaper Aftonbladet, with theoretical roots in Image Repair Theory (IRT) and classic rhetoric. The results show that Matilda Djerf and Djerf Avenue applied all of Benoit’s IRT-strategies, with particular emphasis on reducing offensiveness and corrective actions. The communication was characterized by a strong dominance of pathos, while logos were often absent. Ethos was used to portray Djerf as a responsible and empathetic leader, though it was challenged by shifts in strategy and choices of publication context. Overall, the study contributes to a deeper understanding of how influencers and influencer-owned companies manage crises in a media environment were emotional authenticity and strategic communication must be continuously balanced. By examining communication within a company where the brand is closely tied to an individual, the study also highlights how the intertwining of person and organization contributes to the complexity of crisis management

    No full text

Brain natriuretic peptide and all-cause mortality in patients treated with haemodialysis

    No full text
Background: Brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) is a hormone secreted from the heart in response to fluid overload. In patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), inadequate fluid management during haemodialysis may cause fluid overload and overhydration (OH), risk factors for mortality. The aim of this exploratory pilot study was to analyse the relationships between BNP, OH and all-cause mortality in patients with CKD and haemodialysis. Methods: In this prospective observational study, five-year survival was analysed in 64 patients with CKD and haemodialysis. Bivariate correlations were performed to analyse the relationships between BNP, OH, and all-cause mortality. Cox regression analysis was performed to adjust the relationship between BNP and all-cause mortality for selected clinical and biochemical characteristics, collected at baseline. Results: By the end of the study, 33 patients (52%) had died. In bivariate correlation analysis age (r = 0.38), BNP (r = 0.48), handgrip strength (r=-0.34), lean tissue index (r=-0.41) and CRP level (r=-0.34, p = 0.007) were significantly associated with all-cause mortality. In a linear regression model, BNP was found to be a significant predictor of all-cause mortality (HR 2.61). However, after adjusting for age, handgrip strength, and CRP, BNP was no longer a statistically significant predictor of all-cause mortality. Instead, age, handgrip strength and CRP were significant predictors of all-cause mortality (HR 1.04; HR 0.95 and HR 2.61, respectively). Conclusions: In this study, BNP was correlated with all-cause mortality in patients with CKD and haemodialysis, but OH was not. When adjusting for other clinical and biochemical factors, age, inflammation, and handgrip strength were found to be independent and more important predictors of all-cause mortality than BNP

Indigenous People and Just Transition: The Laver Project as a Case Study

    No full text
This thesis explores Indigenous rights and environmental governance in the context of Sweden’s green transition, focusing on Boliden’s proposed mining project in Laver and its impact on the Semisjaur Njarg Sámi village. Through a case study of Boliden’s Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) in their mining application, the research critically evaluates how Sámi reindeer husbandry and land rights are addressed within the framework of Swedish environmental law and the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP).  Using Indigenous Rights Theory and Just Transition Theory, the thesis argues that while Sweden has made strong commitments to sustainability and human rights, the analysis reveals important procedural and structural shortcomings in Sweden’s permitting process, including the failure to completely implement Free, Prior and Informed Consent (FPIC). The study argues that current sustainability strategies risk reproducing colonial dynamics if Indigenous communities are treated merely as stakeholders or excluded from decision-making processes. It concludes by advocating for legally binding FPIC, Sámi co-governance in the environmental permitting process, and a redefinition of sustainability that fully incorporates cultural, distributive and recognition justice.

All’s eco-friendly that ends eco-friendly (if remembered as such) : Memory processes in retrospective judgment of environmentally significant sequences

    No full text
Retrospective judgments of environmentally significant sequences are biased by recency: sequences ending with an environmentally friendly item are rated as more eco-friendly than otherwise identical sequences with the same item earlier in the list. A corresponding primacy effect is typically absent. This may have applied consequences for how consumers perceive the environmental friendliness of their purchase decisions, for example. The aim of the present investigation was to reach a better understanding of why the recency but not the primacy effect manifests in eco-judgments. We found that the recency effect is just as large when continual distraction takes place between item presentations as when it does not. Moreover, memory for recently presented items was better than that for older items, but a filled retention interval reduced the recency effect in both memory and retrospective judgments. These findings support a memory-based explanation of the recency effect in retrospective judgments and suggest that poor memory of items early in the sequence is the reason why the primacy effect in judgments does not manifest

Enhancing heat transfer across applications with triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures: A comprehensive review

    No full text
The current research evaluates how triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) structures, specifically Gyroid configurations, enhance heat transfer in thermal management systems by addressing heating issues caused by miniaturized electronic devices. TPMS structures composed of Gyroid and Fischer-Koch varieties demonstrate up to a 50.6 % improvement in cooling efficiency compared to traditional fin structures. Additionally, the Fischer-Koch structure facilitates internal flow heat transfer, achieving efficiency levels 12 times greater than conventional designs. The Nusselt number exceedes 80 in TPMS configurations, although pressure drops increases when porosity fell below 0.7. However, the performance evaluation criterion remains above 70 at porosities of 0.8. The effective thermal management of advanced electronic systems benefits from the integration of phase change materials (PCMs) with TPMS structures, as they enhance heat dissipation and reduce melting durations. The review concludes that implementing TPMS components would significantly improve heat transfer, besides enabling designers to optimise thermal management systems within constrained spaces

    No full text
Previous research shows that there is a shortage of family homes in Sweden and that the interest of becoming one is low. Therefore, we wanted a deeper understanding of the subject and conducted four semi-structured interviews with five professionals in municipal family home care. Their stories described the shortage of family homes from their perspective. Who becomes a family home were investigated and presented based on the interviews. Systems theory, intrinsic and extrinsic motivations and altruism were used in the study ́s analysis to reflect and describe the results. A thematic analysis method and quotes were used to present the results. Despite a genuine interest in becoming a family home, the results of the study showed that there is a shortage of family homes, which creates consequences for the children and young people in need of a family home placement.

Desirable Leadership: A Qualitative Study of the Perspectives of Young Adults in the Swedish Retail Sector

    No full text
Entering the labour market and conforming to the authority relations that characterize wage labour are central parts of becoming an adult. The aim of this qualitative study is to analyse desirable leadership from the perspective of young adult employees in the retail sector. Informants were asked to define what they view as leadership and describe what they desire leadership to be like. Interviews with 13 young adults (aged 18–28) in the Swedish retail sector, analysed with qualitative content analysis, revealed that desirable leadership meant participation and equal influence. This included the formal exercise of authority, provided that the authority considered the integrity and views of all subordinates. At the same time, leadership based on formal authority was desired. Two themes were identified as desired: leadership through cooperation, democracy and respect; and leadership through competence, command and objective feedback, summarized under the overarching theme of leadership based on professional competence and respect for individuals’ integrity

Anti-Money Laundering Act - Accounting industry : A qualitative study researching the compliance and effect of the AML act, in the accountingindustry

    No full text
Aim: To examine how the Anti money laundering (AML) regulations are perceived and adapted within the Swedish accounting industry, with a focus on how the compliance burden is experienced by firms of different sizes. Method: This thesis used a qualitative research method with semi-structured interviews as the method of data collection. This thesis used an explorative study for the accounting industry, where the empirical material was gained through 4 interviews. Results and conclusions: AML regulations create a significant compliance burden for the accounting industry, with the perceived burden varying depending on firm size. Smaller firms generally have a larger compliance burden, partially due to limited resources, while larger firms are better equipped to manage the requirements. Contribution of the thesis: This thesis could serve as a starting point for future research by highlighting a relatively unexplored area in the Swedish accounting industry. It opens up a path for further studies on how AML regulations affect firms of different sizes. Suggestions for future research: Future research could expand the amount of respondents and a greater verification in sizes to gain a deeper conclusion. Future research could be a follow up thesis in a couple of years and assess whether there's changes in the perceived compliance burden

    No full text
Despite extensive research on climate change, there remains uncertainty about whichcommunication strategies are most effective in increasing climate engagement. In a Swedishcontext, knowledge is also limited regarding how the public perceives climate messages and howthese perceptions align with scientifically based recommendations. The aim of this study was to investigate which communication strategies adults with aconnection to Sweden perceive as most effective in promoting climate-friendly attitudes, opinions,or behaviors. The study also aimed to identify potential differences between these perceptions andwhat previous research highlights as effective strategies. The study was conducted as a web-based survey with 83 respondents. Thequestionnaire included both quantitative and qualitative questions and was analyzed usingfrequency analysis and thematic analysis, respectively. The SASSY framework was used as atheoretical basis for categorizing respondents. The results showed that clear, concrete, and easy-to-understand information wasperceived as most effective by a majority of respondents. Rhetoric that evoked a sense ofresponsibility or moderate concern was also considered engaging. At the same time, manyrespondents expressed uncertainty or had misconceptions about research-basedrecommendations—particularly regarding how climate information should be structured. In other words, the findings suggest that there is a basic awareness of certain effective climatecommunication strategies among the respondents, but also that uncertainty and misconceptionspersist—even among already engaged and concerned individuals. This underscores the need formore accessible and research-based guidance on climate communication in Sweden, not least tostrengthen the public’s role in the climate transition.
