    No full text
This study aims to examine the crisis communication from the influencer Matilda Djerf and her fashion company Djerf Avenue after Aftonblandet scrutinized their work environment. This revealed that many employees were being treated badly. By using a qualitative content analysis on eight statements published on social media and in newspaper articles, the purpose of this study was to investigate if it is possible to separate an influencer from their own company during a crisis. By applying the Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT), the study aimed to identify communication strategies related to crises. The analysis demonstrated that the communication could be divided into four themes; brand image communication, distancing communication, communication about improvement and relationship-strengthening communication. Furthermore, the results showed that similar communication strategies were used from both parties. The overall results revealed that although certain differences were found in the statements from Matilda Djerf and Djerf Avenue, the final conclusion is that it is not possible to completely separate the influencer from the brand in this case

    No full text
This study explores how democratic values are practiced within hip hop dance education and how such practices can be understood as a bridge-building alternative to traditional forms of democracy education. Grounded in John Dewey’s conception of democracy as a lived and experiential form of associated living, the study examines how values such as participation, inclusion, and shared responsibility are enacted through bodily and aesthetic practices. The research is situated within a Swedish dance association and draws on qualitative data from semi-structured interviews with dance teachers and students, as well as participant observations. The study is guided by the following research questions: How do teachers who teach hip hop dance describe their responsibility for fostering participation and inclusion? What dimensions of democracy, cultural legitimacy, and participation emerge in their descriptions of teaching? What opportunities and challenges arise in relation to inclusion and norms of authenticity? The empirical material consists of semi-structured interviews with hip hop dance teachers and students, as well as participant observations conducted within an dance association. An ethnographically inspired approach and thematic analysis were used. The findings show that hip hop dance functions as a democratic practice where democratic values are not only discussed but embodied through movement, interaction, and collective creation. At the same time, tensions related to authenticity, cultural appropriation, and institutional conditions shape participation. The study concludes that hip hop dance holds significant democratic potential, provided that teachers adopt a reflexive and culturally informed pedagogical approach

Att bära ansvaret men sakna makten - En kvalitativ studie om klubbarnas roll i säkerhetsarbetet inom svensk elitfotboll

    No full text

    No full text
This study examines if migration is defined as a political problem in Swedish political parties´ election manifestos between 2014 and 2022, and whether a discursive shift can be identified during this period. Using Caron Bacchi´s What´s the problem represented to be? (WPR) approach as the theoretical and analytical framework, the study conducts a qualitative discourse analysis of the election manifestos and key policy texts from four parliamentary parties: Socialdemokraterna, Moderaterna, Sverigedemokraterna and Vänsterpartiet. The analysis demonstrates that migration is not understood as a uniform problem across parties, but is instead constructed though ideologically distinct problem representations. Vänsterpartiet consistently frames migration through a humanitarian and rights based discourse, where the core problem lies in restrictive policies and insufficient welfare provisions rather than migration itself. In contrast, Moderaterna and Sverigedemokraterna increasingly construct migration as a problem related to volume, integration capacity, security and social cohesion. Sverigedemokraterna articulates the most restrictive representation, portraying migration as a fundamental threat to national identity and societal stability. Socialdemokraterna occupy an intermediate position, where an initially humanitarian discourse gradually shifts toward an emphasis on control, order and system sustainability. In conclusion the study identifies a clear discursive shift in Swedish migration policy debates during the examined period, from a predominantly humanitarian framing toward a more security and capacity oriented discourse. By applying the WPR approach, the study highlights how political parties not only propose different solutions but also fundamentally define migration as different kinds of political problems

    No full text
In recent years, camera surveillance has become an increasingly prominent tool in Sweden's crime-prevention strategy and security policy, raising fundamental questions about state power, individual rights and the balance between security and privacy. This study examines how the Swedish government rhetorically constructs and legitimises expanded camera surveillance in government bill 2024/25:93 Camera surveillance in crime and other public activities-expanded possibilities and a simplified procedure1. While prior research has extensively discussed the effectiveness and societal consequences of camera surveillance, particularly regarding integrity, discrimination and democratic values, there remains a notable lack of focused analyses of how camera surveillance is discursively justified in legislative policy texts in Sweden. Using a qualitative text analysis, the study combines Carol Bacchi's What's the problem represented to be? (WPR) approach with theoretical perspectives on surveillance and power derived from Foucault, Lyon and Dean. The findings show that the bill 2024/25:93 represents crime and risk as permanent societal conditions and frames camera surveillance as a necessary and rational response. Privacy is largely constructed as a secondary concern that can be balanced within surveillance expansion, while alternative problem formulations and critical perspectives receive limited attention. The study contributes to a deeper understanding of how surveillance is normalised and legitimised through political rhetoric in a contemporary democratic context

    On algorithmic mediations

    No full text
In this article, the main focus will be to analyze the notion of mediation in an attempt to apply it to one of the major topics of our time: the increasing impact of AI technologies in social life. Mediation being essentially a relational concept, I will start by linking it to the relational thinking developed in sociological theory and postphenomenology. My own contribution will be to take a substantialist position and to define what I consider to be the ecstatic dimension of relationality, re-interpreted via the notion of “being-toward.” I will also draw on Sartre's socio-materialist understanding of mediation, focusing in particular on his general conceptualization of the “practico-inert field.” A metaphorological approach will be presented in the final part of the study to illustrate the relations between humans and AI technologies. Three metaphors will be used to explore the meaning of algorithmic mediations: “vampire objects,” “bewitched quantities,” and “frozen voices.” These metaphors will be interpreted in light of empirical phenomena: (a) algorithmically generated “synthetic data,” (b) “high-frequency trading,” and (c) AI recruitment chatbots in hiring

Non-Appropriation in the Outer Space Treaty and Exploitation of Natural Resources in Outer Space

    No full text
This master’s thesis utilizes an analytical research methodology paired with an international law research methodology to seek an answer to the question if the rule on national appropriation in the Outer Space Treaty prevents appropriation of natural resources in outer space or on celestial bodies. In the near future the possibility to venture into space to use and exploit natural resources will become possible. As this has become feasible, some spacefaring nations have created their own national legislation on how to conduct exploitation of natural resources in outer space and on celestial bodies. It is therefore crucial to assess what conducts in space regarding the extraction and utilization of space resources is permitted or possibly prohibited. By analysing the work of legal scholars on the area of resource use in outer space and using state practice and subsequent agreements regarding the subject and looking at analogies from similar regime’s, this thesis seeks to interpret art. I and II of the Outer Space Treaty. Firstly, the thesis investigates how the freedom of use in outer space, as it is enshrined in the Outer Space Treaty, relate to the use of natural resources in outer space. This thesis concludes that resource use is included under the freedom to use, and the very broad scope of the article includes exploitation of natural resources in space, with practically no limitations besides the fact that using natural resources must be beneficial for all countries and encourage cooperation. Secondly, this thesis investigates the meaning of prohibition against appropriation in the Outer Space treaty and how it relates to the exploitation of natural resources. The meaning of the nonappropriation principle is that states cannot claim ownership of outer space as a whole or on any celestial bodies or any parts thereof as there can be no territorial sovereignty in space. The prohibition also includes private actors, who can neither be given spatial property rights from a state or create their own property rights. There is not a consensus if the prohibition includes exploitation of natural resources. Thirdly, this thesis investigates how the freedom of use and the prohibition against appropriation in the Outer Space Treaty can be understood with contextual insights, such as state practice and subsequent agreements relating to the use of natural resources in outer space. By looking at state practice and subsequent agreements this thesis finds that the non-appropriation principle does not include natural resources. Therefore, the answer to the research question is that the Outer Space Treaty does not prohibit appropriation of extracted natural resources. As the prohibition on appropriation prevents claims of spatial ownership it would follow that claiming ownership of natural resources in situ would amount to an illegal spatial claim. Extracting and utilizing natural resources until they are no longer in situ would make it possible to appropriate them by claiming them for property as it does not amount to a territorial claim of sovereignty. Consequently, the answer to the research question of this thesis is that the rule on national appropriation in the Outer Space Treaty does not prevent appropriation of extracted natural resources no longer in situ

    No full text
The bachelor thesis examines how Deaf and hard of hearing children´s right to education in sign language is represented within the Swedish government oversight. The aim is to examine how this right is problematized in the Swedish National Audit Office´s review of education authorities’ work with children´s rights, and to analyse the effects this problem representation has on the comprehension of sign language as a civil right. The study addresses two research questions: how is the problem of children´s right to sign language represented in the review, and what discursive, subjectification, and lived effects does this representation produce? The study is based on a qualitative discourse analysis of a review conducted by the Swedish National Audit Office. Carol Bacchi´s “What´s the Problem Represented to be?” (WPR) approach constitutes the main analytical framework, complemented by the theory of deaf people’s “dual category status”. The conclusions show that sign language is absent as an explicit object of problematization, a finding that constitutes a result in itself. Instead, children´s rights to sign language are framed through a disability-oriented problem representation, in which the minority language dimension is marginalised and sign language is represented as an individually assessed support measure
