Does conflictual dialogue increase ratings of story quality Experiment 2

    No full text
Research question: does dramatic conflict improve a story? Specifically does conflictual dialogue lead to increased ratings of story quality, story enjoyment, and decreased ratings of how boring a story is? One almost universally held theory about stories, is that conflict improves stories. We will use specially created stories, in three genres (fantasy, crime, romantic-comedy) manipulated to create different levels of conflictual dialogue, in a repeated measures experiment. After the passage of dialogue, participants will rate story goodness/quality, how enjoyable, and how boring they found the story

The executive function scale in higher education

    No full text
Executive functions are higher cognitive processes that allow individuals to carry out purposeful, independent, and self-directed behaviors to achieve a goal. They are a factor with a significant weight in academic achievement. Despite its relevance in the context of higher education, there are no valid assessment instruments for the Mexican population that are useful to evaluate the perception that young people have about their executive functions. Thus, this research aims to develop and validate a scale to assess the level of self-perception of executive functions used in the school context for higher-education students. The scale will investigate young people's perceptions of their metacognitive skills, cognitive flexibility, inhibitory control, working memory, attentional control, emotional control, task initiation, planning, organization, and time management. Items with a Likert-type scale will be used and answered via an online survey. Participants will be students of undergraduate programs of Mexican universities, between 18 and 24 years

Reliably Assessing Relationship Quality in German-Speaking Samples: A Tri-National Online Study Validating the German Versions of the Perceived Relationship Quality Component Questionnaire (German PRQC) and the Couples Satisfaction Index (German CSI)

    No full text
A large body of research shows the enormous impact of happy relationships on psychological and physical well-being. On an international scale, it is important to have reliable, valid, and comparable measures across different cultural settings and languages. The Perceived Relationship Quality Components Inventory (PRQC; Fletcher et al., 2000) and the Couples Satisfaction Index (CSI; Funk & Rogge, 2007) are widely used measures of relationship satisfaction and quality in the English-speaking world. Although these measures have been in use for years, there are still no psychometrically evaluated German translations for both these instruments. Therefore, this study aims at psychometrically evaluating the German translations of the PRQC and the CSI in the three German-speaking countries Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. For this purpose, 800 participants will be recruited from the three countries using an online survey. In a second wave, with a delay of 8 weeks, participants will be contacted again. At the end of this second wave, they will receive their scores and a brief explanation on each questionnaire online if they wish. Participants will not receive any other incentives for participation. In two separate publications (see studies 1 and 2 below), analyses will focus on the validity and reliability of each of the German translations. Furthermore, we will investigate whether the original factor structure of the questionnaires is confirmed, and the performance of the German translation of the CSI at item level will be tested with an IRT analysis

Improving Bone Health in Wheelchair Users by a Long-term Intervention Combining Bone-specific Exercise and Nutrition

    No full text
The low mechanical loading of bones among wheelchair users leads to an increased risk of bone fractures and associated complications due to low bone mineral density (BMD). Adding mechanical loading through physical activity in combination with optimizing nutrition may counteract these negative consequences in wheelchair users and thereby provide positive impact for bone health, as well as for physical and mental health. In this project, a multidisciplinary team will tailor a bone-specific exercise and nutrition program to increase BMD in sport active and non-active wheelchair users with initial low BMD
