Efficacy of Magnetic Stimulation in Men With Urinary Incontinence After Radical Prostatectomy: a Randomized, Quadruple-Blind, Sham-Controlled Clinical Trial
Yildiz, Necmettin/0000-0002-1947-4375Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of MStim on incontinence-related clinical parameters, quality of life (QoL), sexual function, depression and anxiety in patients with UI after RP. Methods: Forty men with UI after RP were randomized into two groups using the random numbers generator as follows: Group 1 received MStim (n: 20), and Group 2 Sham-MStim (control) (n: 20). MStim and Sham-Mstim were performed with MStim therapy armchair (Novamag NT60), 2 days a week, 20 min a day, a total of 16 sessions for 8 weeks. Men were evaluated in terms of improvement rates (primary outcome), severity of incontinence (24 h-pad test), frequency of voiding, nocturia, incontinence episodes, number of pads, (3-day bladder diary) anxiety-depression (HADS), QoL (IIQ-7), sexual function (IIEF), and continence rates and treatment satisfaction. Results: While there was a statistically significant improvement in all parameters except erectile function, sexual desire, and intercourse satisfaction and overall satisfaction subgroups of sexual function and depression Group 1, a statistically significant improvement was found only in the severity of incontinence and bladder diary parameters in Group 2 at the 8th week compared to the baseline values (p 0.05). At the end of treatment; the severity of incontinence, nocturia, incontinence episodes, QoL, total and orgasmic function subgroups of sexual function and anxiety were significantly improved in Group 1 compared to Group 2 at the 8th week (p 0.05). The improvement rates (75.0% vs. 26.3%), continence rates (45.0% vs. 15.8%), and treatment satisfaction (effect size: d = 1.23) were significantly higher in Group 1 than in Group 2 (p 0.05). Conclusion: MStim is a clinically feasible treatment option that is well tolerated with no serious side effects and is more effective than sham on both UI related clinical parameters and QoL, anxiety and sexual function in men with UI after RP. Bibliometric Analysis of the Top 500 Most Cited Articles in Cancer Epidemiology
Purpose: The objective of this work is to provide insights for future research by creating a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the literature on "cancer epidemiology". Material and methods: Article data were collected from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoSCC) and advanced search was performed using the following keywords: “cancer*” and “epidemi*” between 2010-2024. The results were then refined according to the publication type of Science Citation Index Expanded and Emerging Sources Citation Index, which only consist of original English articles in the WOS database. A summary of the data analysis results examined along with open-source R package Bibliometrix and VOSviewer (Version 16.20) programs. Results: The 500 most cited documents published in 180 different sources in the time period 2010-2024 showed a negative annual growth rate of 18.97%, indicating a decrease in publication output. An average of 70.1 co-authors per document was observed, and 60.8% of the collaborative efforts in these articles were found to be foreign co-authorship. The most frequently appearing keywords were found to be "epidemiology" with a total link strength of 625, followed by "cancer" with a total link strength of 372. According to the bibliometric analysis result, the article by Ferlay, J. was found to have more than 72.000 citations. Conclusion: This bibliometric analysis has yielded quantitative data on the expansion of the cancer epidemiology discipline, the level of scientific excellence, and the identification of keywords, so facilitating the determination of the most accomplished topics. © 2025, Pamukkale University. Awareness of Salt Consumption in Outpatients Admitted To the Nephrology Clinic
Purpose: Excess salt consumption contributes significantly to the development of kidney disease, hypertension and heart disease and makes their control difficult. The aim of this study was to investigate the daily salt consumption levels and awareness of salt consumption in outpatients attending a nephrology clinic. Materials and methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted between January 10, 2024 and March 10, 2024. Data were collected from individuals aged 18 years and older who were admitted to Pamukkale University Nephrology clinic as outpatients and who agreed to participate in the study by face-to-face questionnaire method. The Beliefs about Dietary Compliance Scale was used to assess salt consumption habits. Results: The mean age of the 211 patients who participated in the study was 58.94±16.84 years. It was determined that 82.5% (n=174) of the participants knew the recommended daily salt amount as 5 grams and 66.8% of them consumed their meals with little or no salt. Salt was mostly consumed as table salt (63.3% n=133), followed by natural salt found in foods (30.3% n=64) and least from prepared foods (6.6% n=14). The mean score of the benefit subscale was 29.3±2.7 and the mean score of the barrier subscale was 19.4±4.2. Conclusion: A large proportion (82.5%) of the patients admitted to the Nephrology Clinic as outpatients stated that they were aware of and complied with the daily salt consumption of 5 gr recommended by the guidelines. However, this awareness does not result in a sufficient behavioral change in daily life. © 2025, Pamukkale University. All rights reserved
Associations of Ehealth Literacy With Cervical Cancer and Human Papillomavirus Awareness Among Women in Türkiye a Cross-Sectional Study
Internet is women's primary source of information about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus. The aim of this study was to determine the associations of electronic health literacy with cervical cancer and human papillomavirus awareness among women of reproductive age. This is a cross-sectional study. The research sample consisted of 330 women of reproductive age (15-49 years), who were admitted to family health centers. The data were collected between July and August 2023 using eHealth Literacy Scale and the Cervical Cancer and Human Papillomavirus Awareness Questionnaire. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to explore the predictors of cervical cancer and human papillomavirus awareness. In this study, the mean score of women's knowledge about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus was found to be low (4.54 ± 3.94), and the mean score of threat perception was found to be moderate (45.60 ± 6.54). eHealth literacy was found to be a predictor of women's knowledge about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus and threat perception. This result suggests that eHealth literacy should be considered for interventions to increase knowledge and awareness of women about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus. Multi-Criteria Decision Making for Ranking Innovation Levels of G8 Countries With Extended Gii: an Integrated Bayesian Bwm and Topsis Methodology
Innovation is vital in today's economies and its effects extend beyond economic growth to enhancing social welfare. Technological advances achieved through innovation increase social benefit by providing solutions that improve the quality of life. Therefore, innovation should be seen as an important tool that increases the general welfare of society. Yet, the relationship between innovation and human development remains one of the least researched topics in the literature. The aims of this paper are twofold: to introduce an extended GII with only 8 key criteria based on innovation, and to rank the G8 countries’ extended GII scores using the Bayesian Best Worst Method (BWM) and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (TOPSIS). It then compares the proposed formulation scores with the original GII scores and Human Development Index (HDI) scores. According to the findings of this paper, policymakers need to take action on research and development expenditure (% of GDP), industrial design applications (per million people) and patent applications (per million people) in order to achieve high GII score. Furthermore, the top three countries with the highest scores are Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom, respectively. The results from the paper reveal a higher level of correlation between innovation and human development compared to that found in the relevant literature. The findings demonstrate that the integration of Bayesian BWM and TOPSIS can be effectively used to evaluate the G8 countries in terms of innovation scores. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025
Direct Oral Anticoagulants Versus Vitamin K Antagonists for Cerebral Venous Thrombosis (doac-Cvt): an International, Prospective, Observational Cohort Study
Yazici Gencdal, Isil/0000-0001-6643-7334; Demeestere, Jelle/0000-0001-8186-0237Background There is an unmet need for high-quality data from prospective studies on the safety and effectiveness of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) for the treatment of cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT). We aimed to compare the safety and effectiveness of DOACs versus vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) for the treatment of CVT in a setting that reflects daily clinical practice. Methods DOAC-CVT was an international, prospective, observational cohort study done in 65 hospitals in 23 countries across five continents. Eligible patients were adults (aged >= 18 years) with radiologically confirmed CVT starting oral anticoagulant treatment with either DOACs or VKAs, as per local practice, within 30 days after diagnosis. Exclusion criteria were previous use of anticoagulants at the time of CVT diagnosis or an absolute contraindication to DOACs (eg, pregnancy and lactation, or severe renal or liver disease). Data were collected during routine clinical visits or telephone consultations at CVT diagnosis (baseline) and at 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months after CVT diagnosis. The primary endpoint was a composite of symptomatic venous thromboembolism and major bleeding events (International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis criteria) at 6 months. Main outcomes were adjusted for the confounders age, renal function, active cancer, CNS infections, concomitant antiplatelet use, country of inclusion's income status, Glasgow Coma Scale score, intracranial haemorrhage, antiphospholipid antibodies, previous major bleeding, and previous venous thromboembolism using inverse probability-of-treatment weighting. This study is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT04660747) and is ongoing. Findings Between Jan 27, 2021, and Jan 15, 2024, 619 patients were included; 401 (65%) patients started DOAC treatment, and 218 (35%) patients started VKA treatment. 390 (63%) of 619 patients were female and 229 (37%) of 619 patients were male. Patients' median age was 41 years (IQR 28-51). 6-month follow-up data were available for 617 (>99%) of 619 patients. 12 (3%) of 401 patients in the DOAC group and seven (3%) of 218 patients in the VKA group had a primary outcome event (weighted odds ratio [OR] 0.99 [95% CI 0.37-3.38]). Three (1%) of 401 patients in the DOAC group died versus three (1%) of 218 patients in the VKA group (weighted OR 0.55 [95% CI 0.11-2.80]). Interpretation The rate of recurrent thrombosis and major bleeding did not differ between patients with CVT treated with DOACs versus VKAs. This study adds to the increasing evidence that DOACs are a reasonable treatment option for CVT alongside VKAs.Netherlands Thrombosis FoundationNetherlands Thrombosis Foundation
The Relationship Between Physical Activity and Problematic Internet Use in Turkish College Students: The Chain-Mediated Role of Self-Control and Distress
Can Gur, Ganime/0000-0002-6013-257XThis study aims to investigate the impact of physical activity on problematic internet use and to reveal the mediating role of self-control and psychological distress in the path relationship between them, providing a theoretical foundation for reducing problematic internet use and promoting mental health among college students. This cross-sectional study was conducted with undergraduate students. Data were collected online using network sampling through the online survey platform Google Forms. Data were collected using the Demographic Data Form (DDF), Physical Activity Scale-2 (PAS-2), the Addiction Profile Index Internet Addiction Form (BAPINT), the Brief Self-Control Scale (BSCS), and the Psychological Distress Scale (K10-PDS). In order to evaluate the adequacy of the research model, path analysis, a component of structural equation modeling (SEM), was used using AMOS software. The structural model also exhibits a good fit, with x(2) /df = 3.105, RMSEA = 0.081, GFI = 0.964, AGFI = 0.924, CFI = 0.948, TLI = 0.914, and IFI = 0.949. Physical activity could directly negatively predict the problematic internet use of college students. Self control and distress partially mediate the relationship between physical activity and problematic internet use, and the mediating pathways included "physical activiy-self control- problematic internet use", "physical activity-distress- problematic internet use", and "physical activity-self conrtol-distress- problematic internet use", accounting for 12.6%, 33.7% and 4.7% of the total effect, respectively. The results of this study provide an important framework for understanding internet addiction in this population, supporting the I-PACE model.Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAKOpen access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK). Titanium prepared platelet rich fibrin (T PRF) has emerged as a promising
biomaterial in dentistry. This study aimed to retrospectively evaluate the efficacy of
de epithelized gingival grafts (D G G) and T PRF in papil reconstruction surgery using
the Han and Takei method.
Method:
This retrospective study included 34 patients (115 interdenta l papil ) with
Class I, II, and III papil loss, treated using the Hana and Takei method (D G G or T
TRF). Demographic data (age and gender), dentogingival parameters (tooth shape,
papil site, jaw type, and papil loss classification), and clinical assessments were
evaluated. Clinical parameters, including probing depth (PD), gingival index (GI),
plaque index (PI), gingival thickness (GT), keratinized tissue height (KT H ), black
triangle width (BTW), black triangle height (BTH), papil fill percentage (%PF), and
black triangle area (BTA), were recorded preoperatively and postoperatively at 1st, 3rd
and 6th months.
Results:
In our study, no significant differences were found among the groups in terms
of demographic and dentogingival par ameters. Clinically, the D G G group
demonstrated significant increases in P D, K TH , and GT from baseline to 6 months. In
contrast, the T PR F group exhibited a smaller increase in GT and reductions in both
P D and K TH Moreover, reductions in BTW, BTH, BTA, an d %PF values were
observed in both the D G G and T PRF groups up to the 6th month.
Conclusion:
Both techniques were found to be effective in the treatment of interdental
papil defects. T PRF demonstrated potential as a viable alternative to the gold standard
connective tissue graft, offering comparable outcomes in papil reconstruction
Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis in Children and Adolescents: a Multicenter Retrospective Study of Relapse and Outcome
Objectives: To evaluate the demographic, clinical, laboratory, and prognostic data of children with acute disseminated encephalomyelitis with respect to anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody status. Methods: Acute disseminated encephalomyelitis patients (n = 245) from 24 centers followed up between 2010 and 2022 were evaluated retrospectively. The short- and long-term outcome characteristics (disease severity and course, clinical relapse, and recovery rates) were assessed. Incomplete clinical recovery was defined as modified Rankin Score ≥1 or the presence of epilepsy. Univariant and multivariant analysis were performed for outcome characteristics. Results: The mean age at diagnosis was 6.3 ± 3.8 (0.5-17.7) years and the median follow-up was 22 (3-132) months. The outcome characteristics were evaluated in 180 of 245 patients (73.4%) with at least 12 months’ follow-up. Twenty-three patients (12.6%) relapsed. The multivariable logistic regression analysis revealed the following clinical parameters as predictors of relapse: sex, visual impairment, and ataxia at initial presentation. Incomplete clinical recovery (n = 42/180, 23.3%) was associated with the presence of seizures on admission and the need for an intensive care unit. Anti-MOG antibody positivity was not associated with an increased risk of relapse (25% vs 13.1%, P =.164) or incomplete clinical recovery (P =.511). Conclusion: The nationwide cohort presented further supports the typically monophasic nature of acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, and a high rate of complete recovery. The presence of certain symptoms in the acute period may assist the clinician in estimating the outcome. © The Author(s) 2025
Reformulation of Continuum Defects in Terms of the General Teleparallel Geometry in the Language of Exterior Algebra
We discuss the geometric formulation of continuum defects consisting of dislocations and disclinations. After reviewing the metric affine geometry and the present geometric formulation of dislocation and disclination written in terms of torsion and full curvature (together with vanishing non-metricity), we give a new formulation of them in a novel way in terms of torsion and non-metricity (together with vanishing full curvature), the so-called general teleparallel geometry. All calculations are performed by using the exterior algebra. We obtain continuity equations explicitly for dislocation density and disclination density. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.Türkiye Bilimler Akademis
