    No full text

    No full text
Objective: Surfactant therapy (ST) is commonly used in late preterm (LPT) infants with respiratory distress despite a lack of definitive recommendation for these infants. Our aim was to establish a national prospective database to evaluate the use of surfactants in LPT infants. Materials and Methods: A multicenter, prospective observational cohort study was conducted among LPT infants treated with surfactant between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022. Twenty neonatologists from 16 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) participated in the study. Results: During the study period, a total of 3327 LPT infants were admitted to the participating NICUs. Among them, 1866 infants experienced respiratory distress, and 288 received surfactant treatment. In this study, respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) was the most common indication for surfactant administration, affecting 158 infants (54.8%), followed by congenital pneumonia in 79 infants (27.4%) and transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) in 32 infants (11.1%). Conclusion: We demonstrated that ST is administered with significant variability among LPT infants experiencing respiratory distress. Additionally, respiratory issues in LPT infants beyond RDS, such as congenital pneumonia and TTN, are also frequently treated with surfactant

Tuzun, Burak/0000-0002-0420-2043Globularia orientalis L., a member of the Oleaceae family, is well-adapted to warm climates and a medicinal and aromatic plant traditionally used in treatment methods. In this study, 80% ethanol extract of G. orientalis was obtained, and its enzyme inhibition activity, antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anticancer activities were investigated. Additionally, the metabolic properties of the plant were elucidated through in silico methods. The data revealed '2-Propenoic acid, tridecyl ester' as the major component of this plant. Furthermore, G. orientalis exhibited potent antioxidant activity, and its cytotoxic activity against breast cancer was found to be robust. G. orientalis' chemical constituents were shown to have different actions against breast cancer protein (PDB ID: 1A52 and 1JNX), anti-oxidant protein (PDB ID: 1HD2), AChE enzyme protein (PDB ID: 4M0E), BChE enzyme protein (PDB ID: 5NN0), and alpha-Gly protein (PDB ID: 1R47). High-activity compounds were subjected to ADME/T analysis. To investigate how compounds in the plant G. orientalis L. affect human metabolism, ADME/T calculations were performed. In conclusion, these findings suggest the need for continued research through activity-guided fractionation to identify the compounds responsible for these effects in future studies. Lastly, the binding free energy of the molecule with the best docking score is computed using MM/GBSA techniques.Open access funding provided by the Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkiye (TUBITAK). No full text
Background and Objectives: This study aimed to determine the relationship between miRNAs and overactive bladder (OAB). We also aimed to reveal the diagnostic properties of miRNAs and their potential to predict responses to therapy. Materials and Methods: The study included 60 patients with OAB as the treatment group and 60 healthy individuals as the control group. The blood levels of 15 miRNAs in both groups were determined using PCR. Also, miRNAs with high diagnostic values were identified with receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves. Finally, the Turkish-validated OAB questionnaire form was filled out before and after the treatment by the participants in the treatment group. In this way, the relationship between OAB score changes and miRNA levels was examined. Results: The let-7a, let-7c, let-7e, let-7f, and let-7g miRNA molecules in the treatment group were higher, with a high level of significance (p = 0.0001). Additionally, the miR-135b, miR-300, miR-372, miR-373, miR-381, miR-520a, miR-520d, and miR-520e miRNA molecules were found to be statistically higher in the control group (p = 0.0001). In addition, let-7c (area under curve [AUC] = 0.985) and the let-7c + miR-381 combination (area under curve [AUC] = 1) were the highest values in the ROC analysis. Finally, after treatment in the patient group, a significant difference was detected in both miRNAs (let-7f and miR-135b) in patients with clinical improvements of 50% and above in the OAB score. Conclusions: miRNAs may help elucidate the pathophysiology of OAB. They may shed light on diagnosis and evaluation of treatment effectiveness.Pamukkale University Scientific Research Projects Department; [2018TIPF037]This study was supported by the Pamukkale University Scientific Research Projects Department. No full text
Cil, Nazli/0000-0002-2164-8688Objectives: We aimed to determine the effects of adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) and melatonin on the kidney in rats with ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods: Sixty male rats were divided into six groups: Control group (C) (n: 10), Sham group (S) (n: 10), Ischemia Reperfusion group (IR) (n: 10), Group that was treated with melatonin intraperitoneally after ischemia reperfusion (IR+M) (n: 10), Group in which AD-MSCs were applied locally after ischemia reperfusion (IR+MSC) (n: 10), and group that after IR, melatonin and AD-MSCs were administered (IR+MSC+M) (n: 10). Five rats from each group were sacrificed on day 3 and five of them on day 14. Blood samples were analyzed for BUN and creatinine. Histological analysis was performed. Results: BUN and creatinine levels were higher in the IR group compared to the groups (p 0.05). There was a statistically significant decrease in creatinine levels in the IR+MSC+M group on day 14. BUN levels decreased significantly in the M and IR+MSC+M groups (p 0.05). Losses in the glomerular epithelium and tubule cells, enlargement, and hemorrhage areas in the bowman space were detected in the IR group. The histologic scoring was significantly lower in the IR+MSC+M group on the 14th day (p 0.05). While Caspase-3 and Bax expression increased in the IR group, it decreased in the treatment group, especially on day 14 (p 0.05). Bcl-2 expression was negative in all structures in the IR group, whereas it was increased in the treatment groups. The apoptosis rate was highest in the IR group and decreased in the treatment groups (p 0.05). Conclusions: Melatonin and MSC were effective in ischemia-reperfusion injury by improving renal function and inducing the anti-apoptotic pathway. This study was supported by Pamukkale University Scientific Research Project Coordination Unit through (Project numbers 2020SABE014).Pamukkale niversitesi [2020SABE014]; Pamukkale University Scientific Research Project Coordination Uni

    No full text
In this study, the relationship between politics and law and the process of judicialization of politics in the nation state have been examined. Since the definition of politics as a concept can vary among descriptors and each political system can have its own different conceptualization of politics, the study has been limited to the nation state. Firstly, the meaning of concepts, communication and politics as a concept have been analyzed. After this analysis, differences of the characteristics of politics between the nation state and its predecessors have been shown. After the analyses related to politics; the functions of political mechanisms, law and judiciary in the nation state have been examined and, in this way, it has been concluded that there can be a theoretical distinction between the political function the judicial function, even though the judicial function has a “complementary” effect on politics. The judicial function supplements the rules that have been made by politics by providing the will of the sovereign while converting legal texts into legal norms. At the end of this analysis, after mentioning the difference between the politicization of the judiciary and the judicialization of politics, it has been shown that by the judicialization of politics, the transformative effect of the judicial function on the rules produced by politics goes beyond what an effect could be called complementary. The study was concluded with a general analysis of the conditions and consequences of this phenomenon

    No full text
This study examined the educational approaches (educare, educere, or holistic) of researchers publishing on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) within the context of UNESCO's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 agenda. Utilizing a bibliometric review and content analysis of 630 peer-reviewed articles from the Web of Science (WoS) database, the study identified trends in publication outputs and thematic evolution. Results indicated a shift from traditional educare approaches focused on knowledge transmission to more holistic frameworks that integrate cognitive, emotional, and social dimensions of learning. Notably, an increasing number of researchers have adopted the educere approach, emphasizing critical thinking and student empowerment, aligning with UNESCO's goals for fostering global citizenship. Key thematic developments included the growing recognition of interconnectedness between education and sustainability, reflecting a broader trend toward holistic education. The findings highlight the importance of balancing educare, educere, and holistic approaches to advance sustainable education and meet global challenges

Tek serbestlik dereceli betonarme binalar arasındaki gerekli derz mesafelerin araştırılması

    No full text
Structural collisions are expected due to the different dynamic characteristics (natural period, stiffness, mass, height etc.) of neighboring structures with insufficient seismic gap distances. In many destructive earthquakes in the past, structural collisions have occurred between adjacent buildings with insufficient gap distances. It has been observed that these collisions have caused severe damage to buildings and even total collapse. In our country, there is a collision potential in many low and mid-rise buildings, which represent a significant portion of the building stock, due to insufficient gap distances or adjacent arrangements. Therefore, determining the minimum sufficient gap distances is very important in order to prevent seismic collisions (pounding effects) between neighboring structures. In this study, the effects of different strength ratios and different period values on the seismic gap distance were investigated. In this context, it was aimed to determine the minimum gap distances between neighboring buildings with different floor numbers, strength ratios, and period values. Analyses performed using three-dimensional (3D) building models with nonlinear behavior reach serious dimensions due to reasons such as intensive labor and storage requirement for data storage. Therefore, by converting 3D models to equivalent SDOF systems, it was aimed to determine gap distances with a simple and useful labor. The outcomes indicate that equivalent SDOF systems can be used in estimating the required gap distances between adjacent buildings. It was observed that the required gap distances obtained from equivalent SDOF systems and 3D building models provide close results, especially when the period values of adjacent buildings diverge from each other. However, it should not be ignored that SDOF systems provide more conservative results in cases where the period values are close. Also, it should not be forgotten that the findings obtained from the study represent low and mid-rise reinforced concrete buildings

A Lossless Simulated Floating Inductor Based on the Second-Generation Current Conveyors

    No full text
In this study, a new lossless simulated floating inductor (SFI) is proposed. The proposed circuit contains three non-inverting second-generation current conveyors. It consists of a capacitor and three resistors, but all the passive elements are floating. The proposed SFI requires one passive element matching condition. A second-order lowpassfilter (LPF) is given as an application example. All the simulations are performed through the SPICE program. Also, some experiments for the proposed SFI and second-order LPF filter are conducted. All the simulations are performed by using the macro model of the AD844, and all experimental tests are achieved by using the AD844s

These novel complexes catalyze the conversion of ketones and aldehydes to alcohols by transfer hydrogenation in a 5 : 2 HCO2H/NEt3 buffer in water. However, their efficiency was found to be much lower than the thiamine-derived bidentate Ru(II) complexes, which strongly indicates that the 'N-H' plays a crucial role in the reaction.Financial support for this work was provided by the Pamukkale University Scientific Research Projects Commission (Project No: 2023FEBE011).
