Moral Content of Institutions To Regulate Social Life in the Alevi-Bektashi Belief System in the Context of the Concept of Virtue Ethics
The content and framework of the concept of morality are determined by normative structures, and this concept is as old as human history. Man is a social being and for this reason, he has needed moral institutions and teachings that enable him to live together in every period of history. Moral teachings can be shaped under theological, cultural and legal headings, and these theories cover the totality of rules aimed at shaping human behavior, interpersonal relations and social life. In the Alevi-Bektashi belief system, there are structures that have the mission of regulating social life, as well as the elements that constitute the theological and philosophical content. These structures have moral propositions because they undertake the mission of regulating relations between people and are built on the theological system. Belief systems also have the feature of having moral answers on the theological level and promising to shape the moral dimension of the social humanity through these answers. In the Alevi-Bektashi belief, the institutions that regulate social life and provide formulas for regulating human relations are institutions of "musahiplik" and "d ; uumlscedil;k ; uuml;nl ; uuml;k". These institutional structures also contain answers to how the moral value system of the belief universe in question is shaped. Evaluating the moral values of the Alevi-Bektashi belief system from a philosophical perspective is important in understanding the value judgments of the belief system. Based on this, in my study, from a conceptual perspective, I evaluated the moral obligations of institutions of "musahiplik" and "d ; uumlscedil;k ; uuml;nl ; uuml;k" through the concept of virtue ethics. Focusing on the concept of ethics, which is a problem belonging to the discipline of philosophy, I aimed to examine the moral dimension of the belief system in question by providing information about the institutions of "musahiplik" and "d ; uumlscedil;k ; uuml;nl ; uuml;k" that shape moral norms within the Alevi-Bektashi belief system
Efficacy of Induction Therapy and Its Impact on the Development of Delayed Graft Function in Kidney Transplant Recipients: a Single-Center Retrospective Analysis
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of two different induction therapies-Basiliximab and ATG-Fresenius (ATG-F)-on early outcomes and the development of delayed graft function (DGF) in kidney transplant recipients from living or deceased donors at a single center. Matherials and methods: A total of 33 patients over 18 years old who underwent kidney transplantation at a single center between February 2022 and February 2025 were analyzed. Body mass index (BMI), demographic data, transplant characteristics, and complications were recorded. DGF was defined as requiring dialysis within the first seven postoperative days. Statistical analyses were performed using the t-test or Mann-Whitney U test for continuous variables and the Chi-square test for categorical variables, with p0.05 considered significant. Results: The mean age of recipients was 39.8±11.9 years; there were 10 females and 23 males. The mean BMI was 24.5±3 kg/m². Sixteen patients (14/16 Basiliximab) received living-donor kidneys, while 17 (17/17 ATG-F) received deceased-donor kidneys. Cold ischemia time was 1.1±0.2 hours for living-donor grafts versus 11.6±2.0 hours for deceased donors (p=0.001). Similarly, Pre-transplant dialysis duration was significantly longer in deceased-donor recipients (2.5±2.6 vs. 9.4±4.8 years, p=0.001). Overall, 30.3% (10/33) of patients developed DGF, predominantly in those with longer ischemia and dialysis times. Conclusion: In deceased-donor kidney transplant recipients, prolonged cold ischemia and pre-transplant dialysis duration increase the incidence of DGF. The use of ATG-F in patients with high immunologic risk appears to be beneficial and is consistent with the existing literature. However, the limited sample size makes it difficult to clarify the impact of induction therapy on DGF; therefore, larger prospective studies are needed. © 2025, Pamukkale University. Exploring the Contemporary Dynamics of Extended Urbanisation: a Comprehensive Analysis on the Case of Denizli, Turkey
Contemporary discussions about extended urbanization and its inherent practices of suburbanization particularly focus on metropolitan cities in the Global South. There is inadequate empirical evidence on the rapidly developing Anatolian cities in Turkey. To address this gap, this article analyzes Denizli's extended urban development process, elaborates on the dominant practices, and examines the driving forces shaping its rapid, contested, and fragmented socio-spatial landscape. As one of the most ubiquitous cases among rapidly developing Anatolian cities, Denizli highlights the leading role of fragmented urban development planning interventions, the stimulating impact of transportation and infrastructure investments, and the pivotal role of private sector projects. The research consists of urban spatial analysis using statistical data and urban planning documents, detecting land use/cover changes over time, and identifying the driving factors that have influenced and shaped the patterns of urban development in Denizli. The findings indicate that fragmented urban development planning interventions have both triggered and sustained extended urban development in Merkezefendi, Denizli. Moreover, key public investments and real estate projects have fostered this extended urban development process, leading to disjointed fragments in a socioeconomically polarized geography. As a diversified and relational formation of extended urbanization, Denizli provides genuine research findings, and includes remarkable similarities as well as differences in the comparative analysis of global urbanism practices
Metacognitive Awareness of Teachers of English as a Foreign Language
The purpose of this study was to investigate in-service English language teachers' (ISELTs) metacognitive awareness levels and how they integrate metacognitive strategies into their teaching practices and to identify the factors influencing their judgements. Using a sequential explanatory research design, the Metacognitive Awareness Inventory for Teachers (MAIT) was administered to 54 ISELTs in Turkey. Quantitative data were analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis H test and Mann Whitney U test, while qualitative data were examined through content analysis. The results showed that there were significant demographic differences in metacognitive awareness levels and sub- dimensions. Qualitative findings revealed both positive and negative aspects of the metacognitive awareness of ISELTs and its impact on their teaching approaches. This study highlights the complex relationship between metacognitive awareness, teaching techniques and contextual factors, emphasizing the need for holistic teacher training and support to overcome emotional and practical challenges. This study highlights the need for a holistic approach to teacher education and support that aims to develop teachers' metacognitive skills and equip them with the necessary tools to enhance student-centered teaching, while also providing a comprehensive discussion on the implications for pre-service teacher education and practice

The increasing number of individual vehicles today complicates the sustainability of urban transportation and heightens the need for more flexible, faster, and environmentally friendly transportation solutions in cities. In this context, the MetroCar System (MCS) has been developed as an innovative transportation model that addresses these requirements.
MCS is a multi-agent, dual-mode system equipped with single-seater vehicles that provides speed, safety, and flexibility in urban transportation. This system offers users the convenience of transportation from one point to another, resembling the comfort of personal vehicle use, while also providing the advantage of a safe journey without the need for a driver through autonomous driving technology.
Within the scope of this thesis, various improvements have been made to the "Merging" and "Tracking" algorithms to ensure that MCS operates more safely and efficiently; these improvements have been tested in a Python-based specialized simulation environment. The results demonstrates that the new algorithms provide a performance increase compared to the existing algorithms of the MCS.
Specifically, the system has been enhanced to allow a vehicle tracking another vehicle to not only accelerate or decelerate but also maintain it’s speed. Consequently, it has been observed that methods such as low-pass filters or hysteresis, which were previously necessary to dampen the sequential increases and decreases in speed during straight path tracking, are no longer required.
In addition, an algorithm different from the existing merging algorithm has been developed, and performance tests have been conducted to compare these algorithms. The results indicate that the new algorithm offers superior performance compared to the existing one.
In conclusion, the newly developed algorithms enhance the potential of MCS as a safe, efficient, and sustainable urban transportation solution, demonstrating higher performance relative to the existing algorithms
Clinical Significance of Serum Interleukin-32 Levels in Vasculo-Behçet’s Disease: a Cross-Sectional Study
Objective: Interleukin-32 (IL-32) is a key mediator in various pathological processes, such as the activation of vascular smooth muscle cells, the progression of atherosclerosis, and the inflammation of endothelial cells. The objective of this study was to ascertain whether Behçet’s disease (BD) patients who exhibit vascular involvement have an elevation in serum levels of IL-32. Furthermore, the study aimed to explore the correlation between disease activity and IL-32 levels and in these individuals. Methods: This cross-sectional study involved 42 patients diagnosed with BD and 38 healthy control participants, all matched for age and sex. The patients were further categorized into two groups according to whether they had vascular involvement. Comprehensive data were collected, including demographic information, disease activity, disease duration, and ongoing medical treatments. Serum levels of IL-32, IL-6, IL-17, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-alpha were quantified using the Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay method. To evaluate disease activity, two tools were utilized: the Behçet’s Disease Current Activity form (BDCAF) and the Behçet’s Syndrome Activity scale (BSAS). Results: When comparing clinical features, no significant differences were observed between BD patients who had vascular involvement and those who did not have such involvement. However, vascular involvement significantly influenced the serum levels of IL-32 and TNF-alpha. Patients with BD and vascular involvement exhibited notably higher serum levels of IL-32 and TNF-alpha than healthy controls (p=0.003 and p=0.001, respectively). Furthermore, serum levels of IL-32 were significantly elevated in BD patients with vascular involvement compared to those without (p=0.008). Despite these findings, no association was identified between disease activity and serum levels of IL-32, as measured by the BDCAF and BSAS scales. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that BD patients have elevated levels of serum IL-32 and such increase may be linked to the presence of vascular involvement. This highlights a potential role for IL-32 in the functional changes associated with vascular complications in BD. © 2025 The Author

There is a lack of comprehensive studies evaluating the effects of Laparoscopic Sleeve Gastrectomy (LSG), which has recently started to be applied as the primary technique among bariatric surgical procedures, not only on overt CVD but also on precursor pathological processes in the context of subclinical myocardial damage.
PURPOSE: This study aims to investigate the effects of LSG on cardiac functions assessed by cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR), on patients’ CVD risk and quality of life (QoL), and on various biomarkers.
METHODS: 32 consecutive obese patients who were scheduled for LSG were included. The patients were evaluated prior to LSG and at an average of 8.4 months following surgery. Blood samples were taken for routine biochemical parameters, anthropometric evaluations and blood pressure measurements were performed. Imaging was performed using a 16-channel phased array body coil on a 1.5 Tesla MRI unit (Achieva, Philips, Netherlands). Left ventricular mass (LVM) and ejection fraction (LVEF), stroke volume (LVSV), end-systolic volume (LVESV), end-diastolic volume (LVEDV), mitral annular plane systolic excursion (MAPSE) and Left Ventricular Global Longitudinal Strain (LVGLS) analysis with cardiac MRI-FT technique were performed offline using four-chamber and two-chamber CINE images with CVI 42 software (Circle CVi, Calgary Canada). The patients' 10-year CVD risk was estimated using the Framingham Risk Score (FRS). The QoL Short Form-36 (QoL SF-36) was administered. Blood specimens were analyzed by ELISA to measure the serum concentration of Endotrophin (ETP), Apelin, Adiponectin, Galectin-3 (GAL-3) and Fatty Acid Binding Protein 4 (FABP4). IBM SPSS for Windows Version 26.0 was used for statistical analysis.
xviii
RESULTS: The mean age was 36.3 ± 7.6 years and 81.3% of patients were female. Following LSG, BMI and waist circumference (WC) were reduced significantly (41.1 ± 4.8 kg/m² vs. 28.8 ± 4.1 kg/m², P 0.001; 120.0 ± 12.7 cm vs. 93.9 ± 11.6 cm, P 0.001, respectively); HDL and NT proBNP were elevated significantly; HbA1C, GLU, WBC, CRP, ALT, AST, TGA, SBP, DBP and HR were significantly decreased; FRS reduced significantly (5.1 ± 6.0% vs. 3.7 ± 5.9%, P 0.001). QoL SF-36 improved significantly in all parameters (P 0.001). Serum GAL-3 and ETP levels reduced significantly (5.23 ± 1.96 ng/mL vs. 2.37 ± 1.72 ng/mL, P 0.001; 0.009 ± 0.003 ng/mL vs. 0.006 ± 0.004 ng/mL, P 0.001, respectively). No pre- and postoperative differences in serum FABP4, Apelin and Adiponectin levels (4.36 ± 1.98 ng/mL vs. 4.31 ± 2.77 ng/mL, P = 0.935; 50.74 ± 7.47 ng/mL vs. 49.56 ± 8.70 ng/mL, P = 0.437; 3.97 ± 0.65 ng/mL vs. 3.79 ± 1.12 ng/mL, P = 0.401, respectively) were observed. CMR-derived LVGLS, LVEF and MAPSE improved (−16.0 ± 3.1% vs. −18.6 ± 3.8%, P = 0.003; 57.5 ± 4.3% vs. 59.3 ± 4.5%, P = 0.021; 11.7 ± 2.9 mm vs. 14.1 ± 4.4 mm, P = 0.004, respectively). LVM, LVESV, LVCO, LVEDD and LVESD were significantly decreased (93.3 ± 17.8 g vs. 78.9 ± 13.0 g, P 0.001; 66.8 ± 16.8 ml vs. 60.4 ± 18.1 ml, P = 0.003; 6.5 ± 1.2 ml/min vs. 5.3 ± 1.0 ml/min, P 0.001; 49.2 ± 5.5 mm vs. 46.5 ± 4.6 mm, P = 0.001; 32.9 ± 6.0 mm vs. 30.5 ± 4.8 mm, P 0.001). LVEDVI and LVESVI were significantly increased (68.8 ± 13.8 ml/m2 vs. 78.1 ± 12.6 ml/m2, P 0.001; 29.7 ± 6.5 ml/m2 vs. 32.1 ± 8.1 ml/m2, P = 0.018).
CONCLUSION: LSG, reverses obesity-induced cardiomyopathy by leading to a significant improvement in cardiovascular structure and function through effective weight loss in obese patients, coniderably reducing cardiovascular risk and improving the individual's quality of life
