    Paleoseismological features of faults Acigöl (Denizli-Afyon) graben

    The northern and southern marginal faults of Acıgöl graben basin in the east of the Aegean graben system were studied for palaeoseismological purposes and important findings were obtained regarding the activity of the faults in the Quaternary period. The Maymundağı fault, which forms the northern boundary of Acıgöl graben basin, was analysed as two separate segments in the east and west, and it was observed that the Dazkırı segment in the east moved at least 10000 years ago, and in the later periods, the movement was concentrated on the Bozkurt segment in the west. It can be said that an earthquake occurred in the east of the Bozkurt segment 6720 years ago and then the activity migrated towards the west of the segment and produced earthquakes 2370, 1322 and 598 years ago, respectively. In the west of the segment, the average earthquake recurrence period is 724 years and the slip rate is 0.58 mm/year. The calendar year of the future earthquake in this zone can be predicted as 2150. The Gemiş fault, which forms the southern boundary of the Acıgöl graben basin, is divided into 5 separate segments, which are classified as the Northeast-Southwest oriented Akpınar segment and Gölcük segment, the East-West oriented Çaltı and Beylerli segments, and the Northwest-Southeast oriented İnceler segment. The approximately east-west orientated segments of the Gemiş fault may have produced earthquakes that may have produced three separate surface fractures in 1773 in the east and 1500 and 1000-1100 years ago in the west. Especially in the earthquakes that are thought to have occurred 1500 and 1000-1100 years ago, there is a total throw of about 2.5 m on the main fault and it is thought that it may have produced an earthquake with a magnitude of M = 6.9 and a surface fracture of 23 km in length.Ege graben sisteminin doğusunda bulunan Acıgöl graben havzasının kuzey ve güney kenar fayları üzerinde paleosismoloji amaçlı olarak çalışmalar yapılmış ve fayların Kuvaterner dönemindeki aktivitesine yönelik önemli bulgular elde edilmiştir. Acıgöl graben havzasının kuzey sınırını oluşturan Maymundağı fayı doğuda ve batıda iki ayrı segment halinde incelenmiş, doğudaki Dazkırı segmentinin en azından 10000 yıl gibi daha önce hareket ettiği, daha sonraki dönemlerde ise hareketlenmenin batıdaki Bozkurt segmenti üzerinde yoğunlaştığı görülür. Bozkurt segmentinin doğusunda ise günümüzden 6720 yıl önce bir deprem meydana geldiği, daha sonra da hareketlenmenin segmentin batısına doğru göç ederek sırasıyla 2370, 1322 ve 598 yıl öncesinde depremler ürettiği belirlenmiştir. Segmentin batısında deprem tekrarlanma periyodunun ortalama 724 yıl, kayma hızının 0,58 mm/yıl olduğu ortaya çıkmıştır. Bu verilere göre gelecekte meydana gelebilecek depremin takvim yılı 2150 olarak öngörülebilir. Acıgöl graben havzasının güney sınırını oluşturan Gemiş fayı 5 ayrı segment olarak ayrılmış, bunlar KD-GB uzanımlı Akpınar segmenti ve Gölcük segmenti, D-B doğrultulu Çaltı ve Beylerli segmenti, KB-GD uzanımlı İnceler segmenti olarak sınıflandırılmıştır. Gemiş fayının yaklaşık D-B doğrultulu segmentleri ise doğuda 1773, batıda ise ortalama 1500 ve yaklaşık 1000-1100 yıl öncelerinde üç ayrı yüzey kırığı oluşturabilecek depremler üretmiştir. Özellikle 1500 ve 1000-1100 yıl öncesinde meydana gelmiş olduğu belirlenen depremlerde ana fay üzerinde toplam 2.5 m'ye yakın bir atım söz konusu olup M=6,9 büyüklüğünde bir deprem üretmiş ve 23 km uzunluğunda bir yüzey kırığı oluşturmuş olmalıdır

    Friendship Quality, Self-Esteem, and Emotional Literacy in Children With and Without a Migration Background

    This study comparatively examines the friendship quality, self-esteem, and emotional literacy of children with and without a migration background. The participants consisted of 828 primary school children aged 8 to 10, including 428 children with a migration background and 400 children without one. Data were collected using the Rosenberg Scale to assess self-esteem in children, the friendship quality scale, and the emotional literacy scale. The analyses used correlation analysis, t-tests, and structural equation modeling (SEM). The findings revealed a significant positive relationship between self-esteem, friendship quality, and emotional literacy in both groups. However, children without a migration background scored significantly higher in self-esteem, friendship quality, and emotional literacy compared to their peers with a migration background. Furthermore, emotional literacy (individual and social-emotional processes) strongly mediated the relationship between self-esteem and friendship quality in both groups. Our findings expand our understanding of children with and without a migration background

Protein kinase B (AKT) protein is associated with many pathways in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), such as proliferation, migration, invasion, and apoptosis. Mushrooms have a long history of being used in traditional medicine to treat various diseases. Scientists have been exploring the potential of mushrooms for their antioxidant and anticancer properties. In our study, the anti-oxidant, invasion, and apoptosis effects of mushroom extracts were investigated in NSCLC.Materials and Methods Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer cell lines H1299, PC-3, and PC-14 were used in our study. After obtaining the extracts of Rhizopogon luteolus and Ganoderma adspersum, IC50 value was calculated as 25.04-11.73-16.54 ng/ul for R. luteolus and 2.97-1.53-1.01 mu g/ul for G. adspersum, respectively, in H1299, PC3 and PC14 cell lines. Afterward, proliferative and invasion effects, as well as apoptosis and anti-oxidant effects, were investigated using the IC50 dose. Western blotting was performed to investigate the pathways of these effects.Results According to the results of our study, Rhizopogon luteolus and Ganoderma adspersum extracts have anti-proliferative and anti-invasive effects on non-small lung cancer cell lines and induced apoptosis, which has been found to increase the anti-oxidant effect.     Investigation of the Effect of Natural Disaster Education on Students With Inquiry-Based Practices

    The aim of this study is to examine the impact of natural disaster education on students through inquiry-based practices. In the study, it was examined whether there was a change in students' natural disaster knowledge levels and disaster awareness perceptions. In addition, the change in students' cognitive structures towards natural disasters was also examined. The research data were collected from Disaster Preparedness Club students studying in a public school in Salihli district of Manisa province in the 2024-2025 academic year. Thirty-five students participated in the study in which pre-experimental experimental design, research model was used. Natural disaster education with inquiry-based practices was applied to the students in the study group for seven weeks. As a quantitative data collection tool, Destructive Natural Events 1 and Destructive Natural Events 2 academic achievement test prepared by MoNE and Disaster Awareness Scale developed by Yetişensoy (2022) were applied as pre-test, post-test and follow-up test. The qualitative data in the study were collected with the word association test. The word association test was also administered as pre-test, post-test and follow-up test. The quantitative data obtained in the study were analyzed in SPSS 27 package program. Qualitative data were analyzed through descriptive analysis. As a result of the research, it was determined that inquiry-based practices had a positive effect on students' natural disaster knowledge levels and their perceptions towards disaster awareness, while it can be said that the decreases seen in the retention test applied to the students were due to time and reinforcements should be made to reduce these decreases. In addition, as a result of the practices carried out with the students, it was determined that their cognitive structures towards natural disasters improved.Bu araştırmanın amacı sorgulamaya dayalı uygulamalarla gerçekleştirilen doğal afet eğitiminin öğrenciler üzerindeki etkisini incelemektir. Araştırmada öğrencilerin doğal afet bilgi düzeyleri ve afet bilinci algılarında değişim olup olmadığına bakılmıştır. Ayrıca öğrencilerin doğal afetlere yönelik bilişsel yapılarındaki değişim de incelenmiştir. Araştırma verileri 2024- 2025 eğitim öğretim yılında Manisa ili Salihli ilçesinde bulunan bir devlet okulunda öğrenim görmekte olan Afete Hazırlık Kulübü öğrencilerinden toplanmıştır. Deney öncesi deneysel desen araştırma modelinin kullandığı çalışmaya 35 öğrenci katılmıştır. Çalışma grubunda bulunan öğrencilere yedi hafta boyunca sorgulamaya dayalı uygulamalarla doğal afet eğitimi uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada nicel verileri toplama aracı olarak MEB tarafından hazırlanan Yıkıcı Doğa Olayları 1 ve Yıkı Doğa Olayları 2 akademik başarı testi ayrıca Yetişensoy (2022), tarafından geliştirilen Afet Bilinci Ölçeği ön test-son test ve kalıcılık testi şeklinde uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada yer alan nitel veriler ise kelime ilişkilendirme testi ile toplanmıştır. Kelime ilişkilendirme testide yine ön test – son test ve kalıcılık testi şeklinde uygulanmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen nicel veriler SPSS 27 paket programında analiz edilmiştir. Nitel veriler ise betimsel analiz yoluyla analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda sorgulamaya dayalı uygulamaların öğrencilerin doğal afet bilgi düzeylerinde ve afet bilincine yönelik algılarında olumlu etkisi olduğu belirlenirken öğrencilere uygulanan kalıcılık testinde görülen düşüşlerin zamandan kaynaklı olduğu bu düşüşlerin azalması için pekiştirmelerin yapılması gerektiği söylenebilir. Ayrıca öğrencilerle gerçekleştirilen uygulamalar sonucunda doğal afetlere yönelik bilişsel yapılarının geliştiği tespit edilmiştir

    Evaluation of Clinical Findings in Cases of Child Sexual Abuse

    Background. Child sexual abuse (CSA) is a severe problem with physical, emotional, social, moral, cultural, and legal dimensions, which is estimated to be quite common worldwide. Methods. In this retrospective study including 262 CSA cases admitted to our outpatient clinic between 2013 and 2022, we examine the characteristics of the victim and the abuse and examination findings in cases of CSA. Results. In our study, most of the victims were females over the age of 12, and most of the suspects were known to the child. Approximately half of the incidents (50.1%) occurred in a home. These data are essential in determining the risk factors of CSA cases and in terms of early detection and timely prevention. Vaginal penetration (40.8%) and anal penetration (32.4%) are frequently present in the history of CSA victims. A history of vaginal penetration was associated with acute and healed laceration findings in the hymen (p0.05). Similarly, a history of anal penetration was associated with decreased sphincter tone, ecchymosis and abrasion in the anal mucosa, reflex anal dilatation, and acute anal fissure findings (p0.05). As the time between the abuse and the examination increased, examination findings decreased in the anogenital region, which can heal quite quickly and without leaving a trace. Conclusions. Preventing CSA is possible by analyzing risk factors well and reaching at-risk cases as early as possible. Acute and non-acute hymeneal lacerations that may be associated with vaginal penetration, anal fissure and other traumatic findings that may be associated with anal penetration should be carefully reviewed. However, it should be kept in mind that anogenital injuries with rapid regeneration ability may heal without leaving any symptoms and abuse may occur without leaving any symptoms. © 2025 The Author(s)

    The Effect of Thymoquinone on Cell Proliferation, 8-Hydroxy-2-Deoxyguanosine Level and Expression Changes of Dna Repair and Oxidative Stress-Related Genes in Mcf-7 Breast Cancer Cells

    Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of thymoquinone on cell proliferation, 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine level and expression changes of oxidative stress and DNA repair-related genes in MCF-7 breast cancer cells. Material methods: Cell proliferation in MCF-7 cells after thymoquinone exposure was determined by MTT assay. 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine protein concentration was measured by ELISA assay. Total RNA isolation from control and thymoquinone treated cell was performed by Trizol and cDNA was synthesized. mRNA expression changes of OGG1, NEIL-1, CRCC1 SOD2, CAT and NRF-2 were also determined in RT-PCR using SYBER Green method. Results: In this study, the IC50 dose of thymoquinone in MCF-7 cells was determined as 7.867 μM at 24th hour. It was investigated that thymoquinone inhibited 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine level in breast cancer cells according to RT-PCR results, thymoquinone increased XRRC1 expression 4.71-fold and catalase expression 6.68-fold in breast cancer cells. Conclusion: In conclusion, TQ inhibits MCF-7 cell proliferation under in vitro conditions. It also alters the expression of genes associated with DNA repair and oxidative stress and acts through this oxidative stress mechanism. This study contributes to the existing literature and provides preliminary data for more comprehensive studies. © 2025, Pamukkale University. All rights reserved

    The Effect of Vacuum-Carbosintering on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Pre-Alloyed Powder Metallurgy Steel Parts

    This study investigated the simultaneous applicability of sintering (S) and vacuum carburizing (VC) processes of pre-alloyed powder metallurgy (PM) steel parts by vacuum-carbosintering (VCS) method in industrial-type low-pressure vacuum carburizing (LPVC) furnaces. In this context, the specimens were subjected to S, S + VC (VCS) and direct VCS heat treatments after warm pressing (WP). Subsequently, mechanical tests and microstructure characterization were carried out. In the specimens, a density value of 6.39 g/cm(3) was obtained after WP. This value increased to 6.74 g/cm(3) after VCS heat treatment, but this increase remained limited. A final density value of 7.32 g/cm(3) was obtained after SVC heat treatment. While VCS specimens had a surface carbon concentration of 1.798 wt.%C, SVC specimens have a surface carbon concentration of 1.179 wt.%C. The carbon concentration decreased from the surface to the center, and this decrease occurred faster in VCS specimens. While VCS specimens had a case depth of similar to 2 mm, SVC specimens had a case depth of similar to 2.5 mm. After VC heat treatment, SVC specimens had a surface hardness of 517.7 HV1.0. VCS specimens had a surface hardness of 478.1 HV1.0. S specimens had the lowest hardness value (98.1 HV1.0). The lowest three-point bending strength was obtained as 192.3 MPa in S specimens. These specimens exhibited a uniform elongation of 3.5%. VC heat treatment increased the three-point bending strength of the specimens. The highest three-point bending strength was obtained as 248 MPa in SVC specimens. This value was 157 MPa in VCS specimens. Both specimens did not exhibit uniform elongation. The results of the study showed that the S and VC processes of PM steel parts can be successfully applied simultaneously using the VCS method in industrial-type LPVC furnaces.     Elevated Serum Angiotensin Ii Levels in Children and Adolescents With Anxiety Disorders

    Purpose: Angiotensin II peptide is implicated in oxidative stress, neuropathology, and the serotonergic system. We investigated the serum angiotensin II levels in non-medicated children and adolescents with anxiety disorders. Materials and Methods: Thirty-nine children and adolescents diagnosed with anxiety disorders and thirty-five controls participated in this study to investigate the potential association between anxiety disorders and serum angiotensin II levels. Parents of the participants completed the RCADS-P parent version to assess their children's anxiety and depression levels. Results: Higher serum angiotensin II levels were found in individuals with anxiety disorders compared to the control group. We found that social phobia, panic disorder, low mood (major depressive disorder), and generalized anxiety disorder subscale scores on the RCADS-P were significantly correlated with angiotensin II levels. Conclusions: We found that children and adolescents with anxiety disorders had higher serum angiotensin II levels. The current findings align with previous research on the role of angiotensin II in other mental health conditions. Further research is necessary to elucidate its role in anxiety disorders

    Development of an Ai-Supported Clinical Tool for Assessing Mandibular Third Molar Tooth Extraction Difficulty Using Panoramic Radiographs and Yolo11 Sub-Models

    Background/Objective: This study aimed to develop an AI-supported clinical tool to evaluate the difficulty of mandibular third molar extractions based on panoramic radiographs. Methods: A dataset of 2000 panoramic radiographs collected between 2023 and 2024 was annotated by an oral radiologist using bounding boxes. YOLO11 sub-models were trained and tested for three basic scenarios according to the Pederson Index criteria, taking into account Winter (angulation) and Pell and Gregory (ramus relationship and depth). For each scenario, the YOLO11 sub-models were trained using 80% of the data for training, 10% for validation, and 10% for testing. Model performance was assessed using precision, recall, F1 score, and mean Average Precision (mAP) metrics, and different graphs. Results: YOLO11 sub-models (nano, small, medium, large, extra-large) showed high accuracy and similar behavior in all scenarios. For the calculation of the Pederson index, nano for Winter (average training [email protected] = 0.963; testing [email protected] = 0.975), nano for class (average training [email protected] = 0.979; testing [email protected] = 0.965), and medium for level (average training [email protected] = 0.977; testing [email protected] = 0.989) from the Pell and Gregory categories were selected as optimal sub-models. Three scenarios were run consecutively on panoramic images, and slightly difficult, moderately difficult, and very difficult Pederson indexes were obtained according to the scores. The results were evaluated by an oral radiologist, and the AI system performed successfully in terms of Pederson index determination with 97.00% precision, 94.55% recall, and 95.76% F1 score. Conclusions: The YOLO11-supported clinical tool demonstrated high accuracy and reliability in assessing mandibular third molar extraction difficulty on panoramic radiographs.     Reliability and Validity of the Single- and Dual-Task Figure-Of Walk Tests in Stroke Patients

    Baskan, Emre/0000-0001-7069-0658Objectives: To assess the validity and reliability of the single- and dual-task Figure-of-8 Walk (F8W) tests in stroke patients. Methods: Thirty-two patients aged 61.09 +/- 9.27 years (mean) were enrolled. The general cognitive function and stroke severity were assessed using the Standardized Mini Mental Test and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale, respectively. The single- and dual-task F8W tests were performed in the study. The F8W test with a cognitive task of counting backward by threes (F8W + cog), and the F8W test with a motor task of carrying a glass of water on a tray (F8W + mot) consisted dual-task F8W. Relative and absolute reliability was assessed using the test-retest method and Bland-Altman plots. Intraclass correlation coefficients (ICC) and standard error of measurement (SEM) values were calculated. To assess convergent validity, the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT), the 10-Meter Walk Test (10mWT), the Modified Four-Square Step Test (mFSST), and the Six-Spot Step Test (SSST) were administered. Results: The test-retest reliability of the F8W, F8W + cog, and F8W + mot tests demonstrated excellent results, with ICC values of 0.938, 0.929, and 0.935, respectively, and SEM values of 4.57, 5.52, and 5.01. Bland-Altman plots demonstrated that the F8W, F8W + cog, and F8W + mot were quite compatible with all tests (p > 0.99). All F8W tests were moderate to very strong correlation with the TUGT, 10mWT, mFSST, and SSST (p 0.01). Conclusion: The single- and dual-task F8W tests are useful reliable and valid tests in stroke patients
