Vento di Sardegna. Messa a punto del codice di calcolo cfd rans

    No full text

Designing peer-to-peer systems for business-to-business environments

Conference held in Firenze, Italy, 30 November -2 December 2005This paper describes the design of a peer-to-peer system integrated in a larger framework for the automatic content production, formatting, distribution and delivery over multiple platforms called AXMEDIS (E.U. IST-2-511299). One of the goals of the project is the reduction of costs and, among the others, the adoption of a collaborative environment based on a virtual database as an abstraction of a multitude of objects shared in a large network of content producers/distributors/aggregators. The peculiar properties of this system are the automation of P2P related operations, the professional query user interface based on Dublin Core and available rights of target objects, and the preemptive exclusion of uncertified participants.219-22

    Batched multi triangulation

The Multi Triangulation framework (MT) is a very general approach for managing adaptive resolution in triangle meshes. The key idea is arranging mesh fragments at different resolution in a Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) which encodes the dependencies between fragments, thereby encompassing a wide class of multiresolution approaches that use hierarchies or DAGs with predefined topology. On current architectures, the classic MT is however unfit for real-time rendering, since DAG traversal costs vastly dominate raw rendering costs. In this paper, we redesign the MT framework in a GPU friendly fashion, moving its granularity from triangles to precomputed optimized triangle patches. The patches can be conveniently tri-stripped and stored in secondary memory to be loaded on demand, ready to be sent to the GPU using preferential paths. In this manner, central memory only contains the DAG structure and CPU workload becomes negligible. The major contributions of this work are: a new out-of-core multiresolution framework, that, just like the MT, encompasses a wide class of multiresolution structures; a robust and elegant way to build a well conditioned MT DAG by introducing the concept of V -partitions, that can encompass various state of the art multiresolution algorithms; an efficient multithreaded rendering engine and a general subsystem for the external memory processing and simplification of huge meshes.207-21

    Webrogue: meet web people

    Get PDF
WebRogue is an application for virtual presence over the Web. It is implemented by coupling a Web client and a Chat client, so that each time the user downloads a Web page he or she can see who is connected to that site and chat with them. Users can decide to talk in couples, or simply speak loud, so that anyone that is watching that page can listen, or even scream so that everybody on the web-site can listen. Additionally two or more users can decide to form a group and surf together, one of them being the leader, that the others will follow. Whenever the leader changes URL, the page loaded on the browsers of anybody else in the group will change accordingly. The goal of WebRogue is to enable the birth of online communities around web-sites of interest, allowing exchange of opinions, in a free, non moderated manner, between site visitors and site owners, and thus it is designed with freedom of speech in mind. Nobody can moderate a WebRogue channel, no subscription or authentication is required, and the service doesnt rely on any particular application to be installed server-side in web-sites, for them to become meeting points for WebRogue users.267-27

A user friendly multi-catchments tool for the SWAT model

    Get PDF
A software system to manage SWAT results (bsb.dbf and rch.dbf) has been developed on a multi catchment scale. Regions such as Sardinia, Sicily, Portugal etc are, in fact, characterized by a large variety of ecosystems within complex catchments. The AVS2000 interface deals with one watershed at a time, but the aggregation of SWAT results about adjacent basins may be necessary for an integrated water resources management. To achieve this goal, an ArcView extension, called multi-catch.avx, has been developed. The extension allows the user to select the subbasins within the basins under investigation and obtain statistical reports of the model output, from the rch and bsb tables, in the form of charts, statistics and maps. The tool helps water managers in the demanding problem of water management by automating the post processing operation when dealing with many catchments within a region. Multi-catch.avx uses the bsb and rch files of all the projects and dynamically permits making time and spatial analysis at the widest scale and creating maps in the ArcView environment. A project view is created where all the watersheds under study are displayed along with their subbasins. The user can dynamically visualize and analyse the spatial distribution of a chosen model output for all the active subbasins within the given basin, at a monthly or yearly time resolution. Moreover the bsb file of each project is aggregated to represent the whole basin under study and statistical indicators such as mean, standard deviation etc. are calculated. The newly developed ArcView extension has been utilized to map, and analyze 15 Swat projects within the Sardinian Region.153-15

System for backup on redundant fileservers

A pair of computers have been configured as redundant file servers. These computers are also used to backup files. User files, exported using NFS, are placed on fast hard disks (type SCSI), whereas much larger, though slower hard disks (type SATA) are used for backup of these files. This technical report describes the implementation of the system of file backup.

The cgml: a xml language for mobile cartography

    Get PDF
Increasing processing power and storage capabilities encourage systematic adoption of high-end mobile devices, such as programmable cellular phones and wireless-enabled PDA to implement new exciting applications. The performances of modern mobile devices are bringing innovative scenarios, based on position awareness and ambient intelligence paradigms. The market is moving from old 'Wireless Applications' approach to Mobile Computing, which aims to exploit mobile host capabilities. This paper presents the compact Geographic Markup Language (cGML), an XML-based language defined to enable design and development of LBS applications specific for mobile devices, and an example of client-server architecture using it
