Investigating real indoor soundscapes and their predictability for known and unknown subjects [Vortrag]

    No full text
Understanding people's perception of everyday sound involves a complex interplay of various acoustic and non-acoustic factors. Our objective is to uncover important predictors for predicting real indoor soundscapes. To this end, we re-analyzed soundscape data recorded and evaluated by individuals in their homes, aiming for the utmost ecological validity. Given the intricate nature of sound perception and potential non-linear effects of acoustic and psychoacoustic predictors, we utilized machine-learning methods combined with hierarchical linear modeling to analyze 6375 soundscapes from 96 participants including acoustical, psychoacoustical, as well as situational und person-related predictors. Based on this analysis, we measured both the variability within and between subjects and obtained model fits for the prediction of both soundscape pleasantness and eventfulness. In order to discuss cases where predictions for known individuals or places are of interest, we employed (nested) cross-validation using different data-splitting methods. By doing so, our study sheds light on the generalizability of empirical findings when predicting soundscape evaluations for unknown or known subjects and thus supports a deeper understanding of everyday sound perception

Meta-Analysis of Sustainability Management in Complex Development Environments: By Integrating Requirements into Systems Engineering Approaches

    No full text
Purpose – The complexity of developing product service systems continues to increase. At the same time, development cycles are becoming ever shorter and the requirements for safety, conformity and sustainability ever higher. In this article, a meta-analysis is carried out on the possibility of integrating sustainability aspects as requirements in a systems engineering approach and the differences are discussed. Methodology/approach - A systematic literature search of articles in ScienceDirect between 2016 and 2023 is carried out. The keywords are sustainability and system engineering incl. synonyms. In a further step, the papers are screened for their relevance to product service systems and the relevance for the purpose. Findings – To address sustainability in complex technical systems, a holistic, model-based approach is required to ensure that sustainability aspects are considered. By using frameworks and methods such as macPro² and SysLM, requirements and indicators for sustainability can be integrated into the development phase, whereas currently only the environmental dimension is usually considered via resource and energy indicators. Research limitations/implications – In order to achieve a complete picture, additional databases must be considered and research results from ongoing projects must be awaited

Analysis of the Impact of Lens Blur on Safety-Critical Automotive Object Detection

    No full text
Camera-based object detection is widely used in safety-critical applications such as advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) and autonomous vehicle research. Road infrastructure has been designed for human vision, so computer vision, with RGB cameras, is a vital source of semantic information from the environment. Sensors, such as LIDAR and RADAR, are also often utilized for these applications; however, cameras provide a higher spatial resolution and color information. The spatial frequency response (SFR), or sharpness of a camera, utilized in object detection systems must be sufficient to allow a detection algorithm to localize objects in the environment over its lifetime reliably. This study explores the relationship between object detection performance and SFR. Six state-of-the-art object detection models are evaluated with varying levels of lens defocus. A novel raw image dataset is created and utilized, containing pedestrians and cars over a range of distances up to 100-m from the sensor. Object detection performance for each defocused dataset is analyzed over a range of distances to determine the minimum SFR necessary in each case. Results show that the relationship between object detection performance and lens blur is much more complex than previous studies have found due to lens field curvature, chromatic aberration, and astigmatisms. We have found that smaller objects are disproportionately impacted by lens blur, and different object detection models have differing levels of robustness to lens blu

Inhaltsanalyse von Musikvideorezeptionen. Eine Exploration von YouTube-Kommentaren

    No full text
The overarching objective is to carry out a one-time and complete mapping of the field, i.e. an exemplary analysis of all comments of one music video in order firstly to gain insights into the motives of users, secondly to generate new research questions and thirdly to develop academic methodology to implement qualitative analyses of large numbers of comments
